Listener comments!

  10:10am
Toby:

I met Ted Curson in the old Coliseum bookstore circa late '80s. Still have his card in one of my journals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm
Doug Schulkind:

Hear ye, hear ye!
  12:10pm
Carmichael:

I'm hearin' ye ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm
Doug Schulkind:

Table for two, then, eh Carm. Pass the hot sauce.
  12:20pm
Matt from Springfield:

E.T. Mensah--thought this was Belafonte at first, very lively Carib sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm
Doug Schulkind:

Good old Belafonte.
  12:23pm
Van in DC:

Well hey there. Just back :)
  12:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

Good old Lenny Bruce! That's ahead of it's time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm
Doug Schulkind:

Tell me about the Duck carnitas again, Van!
  12:25pm
Van in DC:

That's tomorrow Doug. Right now it's more like lamb & rice & hot chickpeas :)
  12:27pm
Carmichael:

Does leftover pizza count for anything? :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
Doug Schulkind:

You're killin' me Van. You're (not) literally killin' me. Stick with the tempeh and seitan salad or somesuch.
  12:29pm
Van in DC:

well all of the lunch vans/buses/roach coaches outside L'Enfant Plaza...so many of them. The one for lamb & rice was a shorter wait. The one for BBQ brisket was just waaaaay too long.
  12:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Van: Mmm! Indian/Pak? Carryout kabob places often give rice and chickpeas as sides.

Duck carnitas--that reminds me of an INCREDIBLE appetizer at one local Thai restaurant: a "duck roll", sweet-smoky roast duck grilled on roti bread, and rolled up!
  12:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

Duck: the fowl that America has forgotten about.
(Good! More for us then! :)
  12:32pm
still b/p:

Saw a short presention last night by someone promoting/praising the food truck movement.
  12:32pm
kat330:

One of my top 10 compositions of all time, Rhapsody in Blue. Had to come on to shout out Gershwin! :)
  12:32pm
Carmichael:

Aloo Gobi is a great Indian/Nepalese dish, chickpeas in a red curry sauce. With jasmine rice, it's heaven on a plate.
  12:33pm
Van in DC:

yep Matt - a kabob place but on wheels. Chickpeas & salad as sides, peach tea. Yum.
  12:33pm
kat330:

[I just posted that to the WRONG playlist first....eeesshhh.. ]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
Doug Schulkind:

HI KAT330! (Sorry I shouted.)
  12:34pm
still b/p:

...So short it couldn't fit all the syllables.
  12:35pm
kat330:

Hi, Doug! I was in such a GD hurry to get to the keyboard before the song ended, I didn't notice I was on the FMU playlist. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm
Doug Schulkind:

Oh kat330, we are all in this together. No worries!
  12:37pm
kat330:

I see the lunch menu is the hot topic, quelle surprise. I'm having a turkey sandwich myself. Was just finishing with making it when RiB came on.
  12:38pm
Matt from Springfield:

*Peach* tea!!

Hi kat! No, don't worry about that stray commenter on Bryce's playlist...
  12:38pm
burnkit2600:

Monk followed by Terrason! excellente!
  12:38pm
Webhamster Henry:

Well, I guess that's a piano roll I'll have to get. Thanks so much for bringing back these Rough Mixes. And for those who don't know, a vast proportion of WFMU's programming from the last 12 or more years is available in the archives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm
Doug Schulkind:

The DJ on FMU right now is PGB filling in for Bryce. He's a sweetheart.
  12:39pm
kat330:

:) Peach tea from Peachtree Street?
  12:40pm
kat330:

Well, that's good then. I don't think Bryce likes me to start with, so that heinous error might have sent him over the edge. :)
  12:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, it is PGB!! Pleasant surprise, love him.
I got my listenin' cut out for me today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm
Doug Schulkind:

Webhamster Henry is speaking truth to power. WFMU's archived programs go back to 2000. Wow! These Steinski shows date to 1995, a good eight months or more before WFMU began messing with the Internets.
  12:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: I got to locate a restaurant that serves Nepalese cuisine--this has been a recurring playlist topic before, and everyone says it's amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm
Doug Schulkind:

@kat330, there isn't a living, breathing creature that Bryce dislikes. He is a generous, compassionate, lovely fellow.
  12:43pm
kat330:

Oh, well, good then. Hard to tell tone on these lists sometimes.
  12:43pm
Carmichael:

On the other hand, that Ken fellow ......
  12:44pm
kat330:

@Matt: Well, I'd think the DC area is a safe bet for such food. International cuisine must be all around you there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm
Doug Schulkind:

The MTV vee-jay Steinski was referring to most certainly wasn't Martha Quinn. She is the sister of ex-WFMU DJ Matt (Uncle Matty O) Ostrowski.
  12:46pm
Van in DC:

Wow. Martha Quinn. I used to watch them back then like, when they played music videos. On TV.
  12:47pm
kat330:

@Carm: One of the 7SD archives has me on the phone and on the record answering "Ken" when asked by Andy, "which one of us do you like better." So Ken should be happy w/me. That and a Mouse of Today pledge. :)
  12:48pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat: There's finally some Ethiopian restaurants closer to me in VA instead of being so concentrated in Adams Morgan, so I'm hoping to experience that soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm
Doug Schulkind:

We always called it Madam's Organ.
  12:49pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat: Ha! "Gilly sorry"!
"....Sorry!" :)
  12:52pm
kat330:

I notice back on the FMU stream, I missed about the best 90-second song ever produced: "Through with Buzz." You're killing me, archives!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm
Doug Schulkind:

I just heard that Laura Cantrell will be filling in on WFMU 3-6pm today!
  12:55pm
Van in DC:

Wow. This is like trombone orgy. Love it.
  12:56pm
Webhamster Henry:

I just did a random check and MAC's archives go back to June 17, 1997. When WFMU started webcasting, the Antique Phonograph Radio Program was the first show to stream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm
Doug Schulkind:

Henry, do his archives go back that far, or just his playlists? I have playlists online from 1995!.
  1:00pm
Van in DC:

The Dining DC woman, Laura Shapiro, just checked in from "Flame Kabob" in your area there Matt :)
  1:01pm
Webhamster Henry:

Sorry - just playlists . Heh - I should know , I probably formatted and posted it. But I know some 20th century archives must be in there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
Doug Schulkind:

Like Dean Acheson, Henry, you were present at the creation.
  1:04pm
Van in DC:

Thank you Doug & Steinski!
  1:04pm
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, wonder if that's the Flame Kabob in Springfield!

Yes, there are scattered Archives uploaded in pop-up player from the 20th century. The Old Codger is one example.
  1:05pm
Van in DC:

yes indeed it is Matt...Springfield VA
  1:06pm
Matt from Springfield:

Another great-albeit-rough Mix from Steinski! Thanks for making this mix!
Thanks Doug for bringing these into the light!
  1:06pm
kat330:

Thank you and bye!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm
Doug Schulkind:

Thanks one and all. Happy times!
  1:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

Yes, and GREAT weekends to all as well!
