  3:17am hugh:

  3:41am hugh:

never heard a cocteau twins cover before. how do you feel about the new cleaners from venus comp?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:43am Julie:

I think there is a whole cd of CT covers, but that one is brand new. I haven't checked that comp out yet.
  3:52am Dark Knight Dan:

Good times!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:53am Julie:

  3:55am Dark Knight Dan:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:06am Julie:

  4:15am hugh:

It's a pretty goth show Julie. I love Danielle Dax! I hear she's recording again.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:16am Julie:

Wow, really?? Don't tease me!
  4:19am hugh:

I think it said so on wikipedia with sources.

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:20am Julie:

I played a live performance of a couple (old) songs she did not that long ago, so that is very nice to hear.

Miranda Sex Garden into Mazzy Star--dreamy.
Morning Julie and everyone!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:54am Julie:

Good morning, matt!
  4:56am Matt from Springfield:

@FVH: Sorry for your friend, pedestrian accidents are a daily matter of course around the DC area (the bus drivers are among the worst offenders!)
  4:58am Matt from Springfield:

Acoustic In Isolation--special download?
In English in any case, I noticed Nena in this set; "Ich bleib' Im Bett" is one of my very favs ("I Stay In Bed")
  4:58am fred von helsing:

Bus drivers are the worst in Helsinki too. Except for the foreign-born ones, they are super non-assertive in traffic.
  4:58am fred von helsing:

Drei Martini !
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:58am Julie:

@Matt yeah I think maybe on their sound cloud or something. Check their Facebook
  5:03am fred von helsing:

quite finnish http://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lau_Nau
  5:04am fred von helsing:

yes she played Madonna, and she did it competently :)
  5:04am Matt from Springfield:

Lau Nau, Brown Cow? :)

WOW! I get a Julie fill-in on a LONG WEEKEND! Can listen to the whole thing! :D
  5:06am Berg:

with a grain of salt (:
  5:06am Matt from Springfield:

The Nena lyrics are great too! Very much expand on the theme of staying in bed--the perfect late night/early morning Nena track!
  5:06am hugh:

The links are gone?! So yeah.
  5:08am fred von helsing:

we still need a new genre "yé-yé 2100" or something like that. maybe grimes is pointing in the right direction. but it needs more bounce and more sheer adorability. and some ridiculous hair-dos.
  5:09am Matt from Springfield:

Whoa, brass heavy pop "Superlungs"! I guess "Superlungs My Supergirl" was a combo of two very diff songs.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:09am Julie:

Links are gone? hoof n mouth? Rats :(
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:10am Julie:

Crazy version, right?
  5:11am Matt from Springfield:

@FVH: If only we ran a major TV network like MTV, we could easily declare the advent of Yé-Yé 2100 and promote artists who might fit into that. Then again, the quicker way would be to just start a band called Yé-Yé 2100, and make a music video.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:12am Julie:

the original original superlungs sounds just like supergirl btw. This version is just an odd one.
  5:12am hugh:

Pastoral Pink Floyd. Really dislike when they got all mad at everything.
  5:14am Matt from Springfield:

Pink Floyd's Meddle? From '71? I know I've heard this song "San Tropez" before, but wow, that acoustic riff sounds EXACTLY like a modern San Fran band called Citay. They have very long, expansive (electric) guitar riffs like that (another WFMU find!)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:15am Julie:

One of those Floyd albums I just don't know. Trying to fix that.
  5:18am fred von helsing:

@MfS Oh and it needs ze French accent. References to Gaulois to evoke decadence and existentialist angst and carefree I-am-immortal attitudes. For the new millennium, references to occupying fast food joints and throwing pavés at les flics. And a Dirty Old Man at the mixing console (hey that's me!)
5:19am no but Im good people:

Thank You.
  5:21am Matt from Springfield:

You ARE good people!

@FVH: I like! Occupying fast food joints? Sounds Situationist as well! :)
  5:22am hugh:

sorry to make a request but shocking blue!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:23am Julie:

ooh getting late, I will try
  5:23am fred von helsing:

I take my desires for reality because I believe in the reality of my desires.
5:24am no but Im good people:

This is beautiful Julie.
  5:24am hugh:

yes, just groove on
  5:25am fred von helsing:

In May one thousand nine six eight / Crazy frogs did something great
  5:26am Matt from Springfield:

And there's the request. Sounds like Glasvegian Spectorpop!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:26am Julie:

@hugh a song?? I have at home
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:28am Julie:

yeah it is very Spector
5:29am no but Im good people:

Thank You.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:30am Julie:

Yes I can in fact dig it
  5:30am hugh:

postcard? any of the hits. no big whoop.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:31am Julie:

oops, that one ain't on this album. and I don't know the hits, pot luck!
  5:31am Matt from Springfield:

Or the Spector British rock corollary, the Jesus and Mary Chain. A friend lent Psychocandy to me years ago, that was my first exposure to the band. I had just listened to Glitterbest, or one of my 70s UK Glam comps, in full. I was surprised that despite the "noise rock" label, J&MC sounded just like the 70s Glam rock, but louder (use of major chords, etc).
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:31am Julie:

wow this guitar..who is playing?
  5:32am Matt from Springfield:

The Monkees Bert Jansch Jam!
  5:34am hugh:

Yeh Yeh! Just go with the flow. Don't take requests.
5:34am no but Im good people:

This is all fairly new to me. The sounds that I have been looking for. Thank you again Julie.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:34am Julie:

thanks, no! Hugh, I do sometimes...as long as they don't suck and don't come in through the whole show!
  5:35am Matt from Springfield:

Kevin Ayers & The Whole World, makes me think of Joe McG whenever I hear it.
5:36am no but Im good people:

YOU are good people ;D
  5:37am hugh:

shocking blue was an awesome band. thx babe!
  5:37am Glasvegian Spectorpop:

I've a great name eh? "Welcome to Evil Mad Scotsman Laboratories. I'll be your host today on your tour of our despicable underground command center."
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:38am Julie:

@Hugh they were..I think I played once before, will have to listen more
  5:39am Matt from Springfield:

@GS: Congrats, you've got a deal for a 9 - 9:30 show on MTV Matt!
  5:39am hugh:

they have a large oeuve. egg shaped thing.
5:40am no but Im good people:

Grabbing a drink. Thanks again..Great Taste and Timing ;) etc with Magic...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:40am Julie:

thanks, good people!
  5:41am Glasvegian Spectorpop:

Ooh how evil! I'll buy a new cape.
  5:41am Matt from Springfield:

I looked up the Volunteers album after you played "Eskimo Blue Day". Then I found "We Can Be Together"--great! As much of a JA fan you are, you should play that, especially with a safe harbor timeslot. Apparently only Bill Mac has also played that, also around 4 am.
  5:42am fred von helsing:

Hot Fucking Tuna !
  5:43am Glasvegian Spectorpop:

Does MTV provide dental?
  5:43am Matt from Springfield:

Only the filthiest fish for our listeners!
  5:44am Matt from Springfield:

MTV Matt is only in my mind at this point...but I am *imagining* the stars receiving med/dent/optical.
  5:46am Dave B:

Hey, look what the cat dragged in
  5:46am Glasvegian Spectorpop:

I've got the minions part. It's hard to find good help nowadays.
  5:46am Matt from Springfield:

Toomorrow again!
@Julie: Like I said, nowadays you must be the biggest radio champion of Olivia anywhere! Refer "her people" to all these playlists, grant you an interview for sure!
  5:47am Glovanie:

I'm willing to give some of his... speech powers (?) to you, but i'm not sure that will do much help...
  5:48am hugh:

hunger games! it's a great conversation starter.
  5:48am Glasvegian Spectorpop:

My people will speak to Olivia's people. They will submit.
  5:48am Chris:

Thanks for the show, Julie. Random bit of trivia: Gene Wilder played the bongos on Life During Wartime!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:49am Julie:

Interesting Chris!
  5:49am Matt from Springfield:

"Life During Wartime"!

Are you still considering replacing "jibrille-silent mourning" as bed music? DON'T! Or at least keep it among different beds at each break. It's such a part of your show's fabric.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:49am Julie:

@Matt i am determined to at least add something, just don't know what!
  5:50am fred von helsing:

Agreed, jibrille-silent mourning is the warped woof of the pwesentation
  5:51am Matt from Springfield:

If you wanted to shake things up, a loop of the soft part of Kate Bush's "Wow" would make great bed music for you. Similarly proggy sounds could be used at other breaks, or heavy sounds ("How Soon Is Now" which you already used). And conclude with "Gigolo Aunt"! That's a great ending!
5:51am no but Im good people:

Loving this!
  5:52am fred von helsing:

Ian Dury / Why don'tcha get back into bed
  5:52am hugh:

Belle Stars rock! Don't know why this one is called "Ci Ya Ya" but I've heard that as a chorus in African music many times before.
  5:53am fred von helsing:

@julie SPROING! :-D
  5:53am Matt from Springfield:

@hugh: Nope--Julie is a Freeformite! Goth! Prog! Pop! Other! Other Other! Et cetera!

Thankyou Julie! Fantastic vibes!
  5:56am Glasvegian Spectorpop:

I fail to see how is all this chat board jibber-jabber is furthering my goal of conquering the world. However, I wish to thank Julie for a meditative start to a busy day of subversion and conquest.
  5:57am Dave B:

@chris - not THAT Gene Wilder. Rather a street drummer with the same name.
  5:57am Matt from Springfield:
