Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

The Flea Market 45's (six of the eight I feature on this episode) were purchased from a man with his old gold van pulled up to the curb. On the sidewalk, strewn about, were the items he wished to sell. Amongst these items was a dirty, rumpled cardboard box filled with 45's. Most were from the early '60's. Many still had their original paper jackets well-intact. Each record was priced at one-dollar, and the kind gentleman allowed me six for five-dollars.

I hope you enjoyed this installment. It was nice to go completely analog on this one, no laptop editing. I'll continue to experiment with format and content. To those who enjoy the Occupy coverage, I haven;t abandone the cause and I'll be updating soon.

Damn this Rush song is good.

I guess that's it for now. We'll be mailing out those premiums before long. I'm genuinely excited about CC4. I know you'll love it. OK. I'm going. Take care and ... always remember.

not many watering holes there matt. best to pick up a six at the gas station and go home.
  6:17pm
G:

@Matt: Since the 70s at least, it's been a longstanding poli-sci distinction to separate socially conservative/liberal from economically conservative/liberal. Moderate Republicans are often fiscally conservative and socially liberal (in contrast to evangelicals who are both economically and socially conservative). The interviewee meant Romney is fiscally conservative and "socially" liberal (not "sociologically"). He was just bungling the poli-sci terminology he's seen used in articles and columns in places like nationalreview.com.

Religion (poorly applied) seems to twist people up. Greed gets us every time. We need more love.
  6:44pm
Matt from Springfield:

Because the cradle of civilization has been acting like children for the past couple centuries.
  6:44pm
G:

Israel has been slowing Iran down. Computer stuff, assassination. Obama just recently told them don't do anything *military* till after the election.

If Iran gets even one viable nuclear weapon, both militarily and politically things are not going to go a way that anyone here will be happy with. As soon as they use it (which they will as soon as they can), various countries are going to react. We in the US can't change that, even if we don't do anything military at all.
  6:46pm
kata:

Leon Penetta has admitted that there is no evidence Iran is building a nuclear weapon.
  6:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

@G: And that's the problem--do nothing and we still end up affected. I'm so hoping, perhaps wishfully, the "Green Revolution"/"Iran Spring" takes out the leadership before any attack--the people pretty much don't go for the theocracy and Ahmadinejad, but they'll unite against an outside aggressor, leading to deep, lasting violence.
  6:48pm
dale:

nice clothes make the man!
  6:48pm
G:

It's geography, dale. Because of the Indian Ocean and the Medit. Sea, that area is a crossroads between Asia, Europe, and Africa, and people and ideas are always moving in and through there, historically, and churning around.

Think about all the changes in countries and empires there in ancient times (Egypt, Sumer, Bablyon, Israel, Persia, etc etc). It never stayed the same for long.

This Sunday, full page ad in the WaPo: Larry Flynt is offering "up to 1 million dollars" for verified information on congressmen, senators or senior govt officials on their infidelity, sex abuse or corruption. SOMEONE in DC is going to tell, and these people will get paranoid about their staffs and underlings. The gauntlet is thrown! He may be kinda gross, but kudos to Larry on this!
  6:51pm
G:

@Matt: We had a shot at helping an Iran uprising a couple of years ago, and we didn't encourage it, because we didn't want to look interventionist and anti-Islamic. The Tehran authorities arrested everyione and crushed it. Was that a bad call on our part?
  6:51pm

Iran doesn't need a nuke to nuke Israel. Only a missile to hit one of Israel's reactors.

G:

Iran's version of Shia theology says the hidden Imam will return to put things right Islamically when the situation has gotten extreme enough. They think nuking Israel will do it. Israel's already slowed them down by a few years with computer hacking and assassination of nuclear scientists. But slowing down is not the same as stopping permanently.
