Thanks so much to all of you who pledged to the Marathon! I suspect we'll make the goal soon! Our interwebs are acting up today, so if you are experiencing slowness, it may be due to something other than a case of the Mondays.

i'd be interested to know how many the Hoof&Mouth @Maxwells did raise by itself, from my calculus, it should be around 5% which is pretty great ! Anyways that was a great night, i used it as a lullaby. :)

Those crazy Japanese-I'm reading that section now in the Retromania book. they know us better than we know ourselves.
  10:32am
pierre:

@Cheri Pi : i've finished it not long ago and missed a conference w/ Simon Reynolds not long afterwards… so i can't speak about what i've read, and feel a little alone. Would you be interested in telling me what's your thoughts on this book?
  10:34am
Cheri Pi:

Of course Pierre! I'm almost finished, everyone should read this book-it's so important!
  10:35am
Sam:

Good morning! Congratulations on the successful marathon! Long live WFMU.

Great group name!
  10:38am
Lucas:

Hey Pierre is there a pocket version?
  10:38am
pierre:

I mean, i'm not the most aware person there is. But since i read it, i keep seeing "retromania" related things everywhere, starting by the movie The Artist, i mean a silent movie in the 2010's what can be more "retromania" than this(?)
  10:39am
Skirkie:

Featuring Ira Kaplan on everything.
  10:39am
Lucas:

It maybe has a lot to see with the ready made idea
  10:40am
Cheri Pi:

@Pierre-I know what you mean! There are many friends here who are Northern Soul collectors, I think it's a little funny now.
  10:40am

the problem is the uncritical repetition of things

Great critique of retromania and nostalgia by Michael Musto: http://www.villagevoice.com/2012-02-29/columns/Michael-Musto-Nostalgia-Wussified-Culture/

although, the Throw Ups is better....hmm, has that been taken?
  10:45am
Danne D:

Hey Liz :)
Welcome to the quietest week of the year on FMU (in terms of DJ talk)
And in that spirit, I'm gonna kick back and listen now!
  10:48am
pierre:

Merci Sam

I'm agreeing w/ Reynolds on the fact that Nostalgia has taken a weird importance.
On another way, i'm thinking that the book was written by a music critic, thus it's a person who has a great and wide knowledge of music culture and underground culture in general, the same that are reachable now to anyone through the web. And i can't help but sometimes feel a little negative critic from S.Reynolds to this web culture. I don't know, i'm surely mistaken.

morning Liz, I listened to more wfmu in the past two weeks than in any other two weeks throughout the rest of the year. You guys do amazing things, congratulations on being so close to your goal
  11:13am
Doctor B.:

You're putting together one hell of a "space mix", a phenomenon which occurs far too seldom on the free-form station I spin for.

Go, Liz! Oh, and I'm glad you came *that close* to your goal. WFMU has a lot of friends out there. And no wonder!
