Scratchy vanity 45s, pilfered field recordings, muddy off-the-radio sounds, homemade congregational tapes and vintage commercial gospel throw-downs; a little preachin', a little salvation, a little audio tomfoolery.

Very nice show, as usual. The Bessie Griffin track was just wonderful. What was the live recording between the Davis Singers and Singing Echoes? Sounded like a familiar voice to me...

Sister Christine:

Greeting Brother Nutt!
Amazing show as usual!
Really interesting to hear "Do You Call that Religion" by the Bryant's Jubilee Quartet... I just finished watching the documentary "Rejoice & Shout", and heard another group singing the same song in an old black & white film... think it was the "Norfolk Jubilee Quartet"?? Can't remember for sure, but definitely had "Norfolk" in their name. They were sitting on a huge pile of oyster shells and looked like they were taking a break from work, and they sang "Do You Call that Religion" before heading back.
Anybody interested in this great old wonderful classic gospel music should check out that documentary! Rejoice & Shout! :)
