from a dance music lover's perspective, i just love going dancing. you gotta find the right "fit" for ya, some clubs are full o' meatheads, others are way cool and relaxed. dance music is such a huge genre and the right niche for me is what makes me dance hard. and i can go all night, w/o drugs, maybe a beer or two, and the local nyc scene is approchable. just take a subway and show up. and believe me, i was totally into rock before, not dance music.

It's one way to get older fans of the Doors to like newer music and come to see the work of DJ's out there.

Buzzby:

Does anyone think that it is possible for older rock and roll lovers to come and listen to DJ's creating new music, or is this meant to be a generational divide, where one does not want their parents coming to the same concerts the kids are going to? I think the music should be for everyone, that is if the older rock and roll lovers can be open to anything new.

Kat in Chicago:

@Buzzby: I'm an older person who got into dance music over the past couple of years. I've gone to live shows all my life (mostly indie rock) but wasn't sure how I'd be received upon my return to the dance floor. At least in Chicago, it hasn't been much of an issue, and I've made a lot of new younger friends who don't seem to care about my age as much as the music I'm into.

Most of us don't have the time to dig around online and go to clubs to get the interesting new music. Thank God for FMU!

Buzzby:

@Kat: Thanks for the input, glad to hear you are going to clubs and liking the music, I'm old enough to have seen the Doors, and am glad it could be a gateway for people like me to go and check out new music by DJ's, which I go once in a while in DC.
  6:59pm
Chris from across the street:

Being able to enjoy a moment on the radio without needing to divulge into the scene around it is sort of a tool to appreciating wfmu.
