  Wed. 10/26/11 9:08pm efd:

got you covered, gw!

Welcome, Van. This will be a very unconventional show in terms of both content and presentation - hope you enjoy!
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:08pm efd:

Yes, that's good for me - I can watch tomorrow night!

  Wed. 10/26/11 9:17pm Therese:

EFD! This Selecter track has always been one of my favorites!!!
Wed. 10/26/11 9:17pm Van in Dallas:

I would request Austra, but I doubt they have any 7" releases...besides, if they DID, only Julie would have them anyway. I could still ask for some KaTe or Toyah though ;)
Wed. 10/26/11 9:19pm break dancing fool:

EFD is my favorite Singles Going Steady show. Super Pro.
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:19pm calzone!:

Spizz! Yippee!
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:21pm tony:

I voted for 1978. '78 was the year that my taste in music really matured. I was 13. This Year's Model, Parallel Lines, Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!, & More Songs About Buildings and Food were a few of the biggies. Great year!
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:25pm calzone!:

Delta5, Orange Juice, Tenpole Tudor!

  Wed. 10/26/11 9:31pm Marmalade kitty:

is it right to term new wave punk as "post punk"? since the origins of punk movement, punk remains valid relevant forth coming.. ALIVE!
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:32pm Jack McGuire:

Request Pls: "Faith" or "Freetime" by Manicured Noise.
Wed. 10/26/11 9:33pm Van in Dallas:

Bet you don't have any Nina Hagen singles handy...
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:33pm efd:

whoa, TWO Manicured Noise requests?! My listeners are sophisticated!
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:34pm efd:

M. Kitty, to me "post-punk" and "new wave" are fairly distinct genres, but I also try not to get too hung up on those labels.

Van in D - you're correct!
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:34pm calzone!:

I'm hearing some positive noise tonight! Will I hear any Positive Noise tonight?

  Wed. 10/26/11 9:41pm Julie:

I wanna hear one of those songs from that band with the skinny ties and bleached hair
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:42pm Jim Devoid:

Love the Phil Lynott song!
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:42pm efd:

Folks, please consider making a pledge using the box at the top left of the page! This is my last show during our fundraiser and it would be great to help out WFMU by hitting my goal. Our commercial tenant is moving out of our building, leaving an $80k+ gap in our budget so we can really use your help! And thanks to all of you who have pledged already, it's greatly appreciated!
Wed. 10/26/11 9:42pm Adam in Portland:

EFD, I was wondering if we would hear some Phil Lynott tonight. You're mint! Still sealed! Never been played!
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:43pm Stevel:

Adam: Mackenzie is dead. These days I'm really into Mackenzie.
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:44pm efd:

M. KItty, I understand your frustration which is why I try to shy away from mentioning genres when possible. Sometimes, though, it's necessary to use that kind of shorthand to give folks a quick idea of what's going on.
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:45pm Kate:

Yahoo! 70s! Miss Lonelyhearts, awesome novella. Word on the street is Errol Morris likes it too.
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:45pm Stevel:

Do you not LOVE this show? Especially tonight?

Make the line move! Under $600 to make the efd goal. ("Team" on break)

  Wed. 10/26/11 9:45pm SF Spike:

Fantastic show, kinda heavy on the Mackenzie tho

Wed. 10/26/11 9:48pm Van in Dallas:

Wow. Seriously...you have NEVER played neither Kate Bush NOR Toyah? Out of the billions of artists you have played? Or did my eyes deceive me...guess I know what not to ask for here though ;)
Wed. 10/26/11 9:49pm Holly in NC:

Hi Evan & veeryone -
Tubeway Army? Suburban Lawns? Adam & the Ants?
Virgin Prunes? Chameleons UK? Wire?
And I totally second any/all Robyn H/Soft Boys
@Julie - now I have to catch up with your Black Tape.. show, too!
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:49pm Julie:

  Wed. 10/26/11 9:50pm Julie:

@Holly! Yeah it was a good one.. we were recording last week during Evan's show. So yay I got to see Evan!
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:50pm Julie:

  Wed. 10/26/11 9:52pm ggggg:

Wed. 10/26/11 9:55pm Van in Dallas:

  Wed. 10/26/11 9:56pm Julie:

Wed. 10/26/11 9:57pm Van in Dallas:

  Wed. 10/26/11 9:57pm Holly-Cared-For Dog:

  Wed. 10/26/11 9:57pm PB:

I think it may have been 83 (and therefore a little out of the time frame) but would love to hear Tell Me When It's Over by the Dream Syndicate.
Wed. 10/26/11 9:57pm Adam in Portland:

I threw some money in the tattered guitar case as well, and the sound of it hitting the felt had me feeling like Albert Finney.
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:58pm slugluv1313:

how about Honey Bane's "Guilty"? Crass' "Big A Little A"? Fad Gadget's "Back to Nature" (only asking b/c it *already* sounds like Mr. EFD has raided my ree-cord collection :) )
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:58pm Danne D:

Hi guys :) Thanks for an AWEsome show :)

Request for a Superfunk '75 choice next year ;)
  Wed. 10/26/11 9:58pm Julie:

  Wed. 10/26/11 9:58pm Danne D:

  Wed. 10/26/11 9:59pm JustSheaNo:

Evan: any chance I will hear some Wire tonight? Also, drinks after rec fair on Saturday?
Wed. 10/26/11 10:00pm Adam in Portland:

How about VOID? I'm like that,...
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:00pm Jim Allen:

Wow, after my initial shock upon hearing some of these songs all in the same show, I'm reminded that you're one of the people who turned on to them to begin with, back in the NYU days! Bravo!
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:00pm slugluv1313:

@ Julie -- where Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker lives! :)
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:00pm Danne D:

I did the impossible today - I found a band on youtube of some repute (at least enough that Nardwuar and a message board commenter knew who they were but I couldn't find them on the accuplaylist). They actually fit the time frame too - a band called Government. (sorta like Canada's answer to Devo in some ways)
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:01pm PB:

Bad Brains?
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:01pm efd:

JustSheaNo - yes to Wire, not sure about Saturday though,.
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:01pm Jack McGuire:

What WAWA is Kirk Brandon working in now?
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:02pm efd:

Jack, that made me LOL by myself in the studio.
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:03pm Danne D:

Hooray for the Palm Pre shoutcast radio app that is letting me hear the stream since it keeps crapping out at the coffee shop :)
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:03pm Jack McGuire:

We aim to please.
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:04pm Danne D:

so with that I'll officially request Evan play something by Government. A request that will likely go unfulfilled (but would fulfill the night's Canadian content) :)
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:05pm JustSheaNo:

Yay Wire. Boo no drinks, but I'm sure we'll see you around sooner or later.
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:05pm PB:

Minor Threat?
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:05pm Wikky Pedia:

In January 2008, Brandon sued GlaxoSmithKline UK over personal injuries as a result of taking the anti-depressant drug Seroxat.[5] Earlier last year, Brandon was awarded the full extent of his claims.

In August 2009, Brandon had a series of heart attacks which led him to have an eight hour operation at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, East Sussex where his aortic valve was replaced with a pig's valve.

Wed. 10/26/11 10:08pm Van in Dallas:

Being my first time here I must have missed the voting or whatever happened for tonight's presentation. Bummer.
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:09pm john:

Great show, Evan! Someone put this 999 song on a mix tape for me in the spring of (yikes) 1980.
Wed. 10/26/11 10:09pm Holly in NC:

Y'know, Steve1, re doth rock, Bauhaus' covers of Third Uncle &/or Telegtam Sam would fit right in - actuallly, was Terror Couple Kills Colonel a 7in? That's my fave

  Wed. 10/26/11 10:17pm Danne D:

Volunteering for FMU is fun and fulfilling - Scott is a great volunteer wrangler. Good volunteers (ya know like the kind that work and are on time and stuff) are greatly honored and appreciated :)

Alas, I can't volunteer for the Record Fair given it's timing :( I'm hoping that I can break free for the first couple of hours on Saturday before heading down to work and that'll be a stretch :(
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:17pm Danne D:

Why is it always Mayhem? It's never Octoberhem or Augusthem.
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:17pm calzone!:

Have you explored the other wonderful offerings on FMU Van? :) Tons of awesome and about 10 years of archived shows. Plus there's a nifty search feature that you can use to find out who plays your favorite bands :)

Agree with wg - some English Settlement would go well about now :)
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:25pm PB:

@holly, I agree some of those Smiths singles were amazing (but a little out of the outer timeframe for this show).
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:25pm Julie:

@MK What happened? You mean the site outage?
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:26pm Danne D:

Okay so like this is a singles show. Now if you were at the jukebox you'd be putting in a like $1 a song to hear this stuff. Pledging is like putting money in the jukebox and assuring that FMU keeps on going strong :)
Wed. 10/26/11 10:26pm Adam in Portland:

Some Swell Maps perhaps for toe-taps?
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:26pm cheri:

  Wed. 10/26/11 10:27pm efd:

some Boston action for you, Holly!
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:27pm Julie:

What are we doing that you are telling us "be safe?"
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:27pm Julie:

Did you just say you were going to play Boston?!
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:28pm john:

If you really want to rep Boston, of course, the ideal option could only be the godlike Lou Miami and the Kozmetix.
Wed. 10/26/11 10:28pm Van in Dallas:

@MK - Julie's show was hit by the WFMU site outage. We all had to pretty much listen on archive (normal for me)
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:28pm Danne D:

hiya cheri
Wed. 10/26/11 10:29pm Holly in NC:

Oh, YES! I suppose 'just head' is fmu-inappropriate ;-)
Wed. 10/26/11 10:29pm Adam in Portland:

Wed. 10/26/11 10:30pm Van in Dallas:

Wed. 10/26/11 10:30pm Adam in Portland:

@Julie: you and me both.
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:30pm Julie:

I doubt I can get into that much trouble in the WFMU studio
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:31pm Danne D:

8( poor Julie. However it's a good time to remind you Julie that you are an FMU legend now :) (that the web outage gods did not recognize this is an outrage)
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:31pm calzone!:

Pos Noise! I'm getting my money's worth, folks! How bout you? Hit the happy button, kids!
Wed. 10/26/11 10:31pm Holly in NC:

  Wed. 10/26/11 10:35pm Julie:

  Wed. 10/26/11 10:37pm Julie:

Wed. 10/26/11 10:37pm Adam in Portland:

@Julie: they'd better be dead!
Wed. 10/26/11 10:38pm Van in Dallas:

If I hadn't already pledged like 10 times to other shows I would here. Or, if efd would dare play a Kate Bush or Toyah song, look out!
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:38pm Stevel:

Under $500 to go. Nickles and dimes COUNT!
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:38pm Droll:

I finish dinner and tune in at the very end of the show and realize I've missed authentic 45-Powered Hit Radio... EFD even talked over the intro of a song. I'm sooooo gonna go back and catch this on the archives.
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:39pm Danne D:

  Wed. 10/26/11 10:48pm Stevel:

  Wed. 10/26/11 10:54pm john:

Loved this Professionals single--still got it somewhere, poster sleeve and all, but dropped it on my way out of my dorm several hundred years ago, leaving a big chunk of somewhat less than unbreakable vinyl on the asphalt. Utter perfection.
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:54pm Stevel:

OK, I'm broke, but I just upped my pledge. Fiscal discipline be damned! Keep it moving!
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:54pm Chop Scott:

Wondering if you are heading towards the Outlets "Best Friend" split with the Neighborhoods "Prettiest Girl" 7"--Classic Boston!
Wed. 10/26/11 10:56pm Adam in Portland:

  Wed. 10/26/11 10:56pm Julie:

  Wed. 10/26/11 10:58pm Julie:

SO was that the sex pistol who was in Ladies & Gentleman the Fabulous Stains, where they did that song The Professionals. Was it Steve Jones?

You have! Thank you! (You too, Stevel!)
  Wed. 10/26/11 10:59pm Julie:

Wed. 10/26/11 11:03pm Adam in Portland:

  Wed. 10/26/11 11:07pm Stevel:

Best Mackenzie EVER!
Wed. 10/26/11 11:08pm Adam in Portland:

The Fast, the Last, the Ex, T. Rex!
Wed. 10/26/11 11:10pm Van in Dallas:

I like Killing Joke too actually.
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:11pm efd:

Van, sadly I have no Killing Joke singles or I'd be all over that!
Wed. 10/26/11 11:11pm Holly in NC:

I LOVE Killing Joke.

Oh, Ian.... (sigh)
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:12pm Stevel:

Van: So close, yet...
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:12pm T-Zero:

Great show tonght, EFD! Ranks up there as one of the best since the disco night. ;)
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:13pm Stevel:

T-Zero speaks the truth.
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:13pm Danne D:

I'll take songs I didn't get the full meaning of when I was kid for $100, Alex
Wed. 10/26/11 11:15pm Van in Dallas:

Oh so no Killing Joke. No Nina Hagen. Toyah? Kate Bush? Too much to ask for? :)
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:15pm T-Zero:

Oh yea! I'd second some Nina Hagen.
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:16pm efd:

No singles at hand by any of those artists. I'm afraid. :(
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:17pm Stevel:

Hey. Money mark is not moving. Just pointing that out.
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:18pm T-Zero:

efd, Not a problem!
Wed. 10/26/11 11:18pm Adam in Portland:

EFD: I'm singling you out for brilliant curatorial self-sufficiency.
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:18pm john:

This Questions the same band responsible for the great "The Price You Pay" around the same time?
Wed. 10/26/11 11:19pm Holly in NC:

@Danne -
Did you get 'Wake Up & Make Love to Me'? ;-)
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:19pm SF Spike:

Killing Joke 7-inch records might be kinda hard to come by. They were much more of a 12-inch single band.
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:19pm Julie:

I'd third the Nina Hagen! And the disco show was legendary. See that, Evan, we are STILL talking about it!
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:20pm efd:

Johh, good question! I'm not sure, but would make sense.

Adam, thanks! (I think?)

Money Mark sounds like something you'd hear on Small Change's show...
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:22pm efd:

Repeating for recent arrivals to the playlist:
Folks, please consider making a pledge using the box at the top left of the page! This is my last show during our fundraiser and it would be great to help out WFMU by hitting my goal. Our commercial tenant is moving out of our building, leaving an $80k+ gap in our budget so we can really use your help! And thanks to all of you who have pledged already, it's greatly appreciated!
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:22pm Stevel:

If Money Mark isn't moving, we might want to call an ambulance. You know how he is.
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:22pm john:

Now I think of it, I'm pretty sure that was on Respond too, which makes it at least marginally more likely they were by the same band with the same name...
Wed. 10/26/11 11:22pm Holly in NC:

Fourth Nina! TV-Glotzer or Smack Jack?
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:22pm Droll:

EFD, You're confusing William Huang and Wang Chung again.
Wed. 10/26/11 11:22pm Van in Dallas:

Japan / David Sylvian...? Early Bowie? Genesis / early Gabriel? Pink Floyd? Moody Blues?
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:23pm Julie:

Is Money Mark single?
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:23pm Stevel:

$437.09 to go. Nick at it!
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:24pm Stevel:

Money Mark is all over the place, if you know what I mean.
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:24pm Jack McGuire:

@spike-still have killing joke 7" "wardance" for the ace bside, "psyche".
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:26pm Droll:

EFD, I stand corrected -- but I still wish you'd play a (the?) William Huang single.
Wed. 10/26/11 11:27pm Adam in Portland:

@Stevel: wherever he lays his Mini-Moog is his home.
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:27pm cheri:

evan & julie ty for a funky show!!!
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:28pm efd:

Van, nuts, I have a Japan single but left it at home! Not your night it appears. :(
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:28pm Julie:

I'm just listening. oh Japan would've been great!
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:28pm Stevel:

AHHHHHHHHHH, love this song! Fleshtones!

Saw them twice in Madison. First time they played to about 25 people. Second time, packed to the gills. Great band.
Wed. 10/26/11 11:30pm Adam in Portland:

Wait, Julie, you're not controlling this show with your mind?
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:30pm Stevel:

Wed. 10/26/11 11:31pm Van in Dallas:

I'm still enjoying Singles Going Steady week here on WFMU, including Give the Drummer Some stream :)
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:31pm Julie:

@Adam I WISH I'd known about all these bands
Wed. 10/26/11 11:33pm Van in Dallas:

It's a double-edged sword isn't it Evan?
Wed. 10/26/11 11:34pm Holly in NC:

Oh, nice!
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:38pm cheri:

  Wed. 10/26/11 11:39pm john:

  Wed. 10/26/11 11:44pm efd:

Looks like everyone's energy is flagging at the same time, including mine! :)
Wed. 10/26/11 11:45pm Adam in Portland:

THIRTY 1/2-time floozies?!?!?!
Wed. 10/26/11 11:45pm Van in Dallas:

That's because of the lack of Toyah tracks :)
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:46pm Pearl Harbor:

Toyah! Toyah! Toyah!
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:46pm David B (chudleycannons):

thanks for the great show! sadly I got off of work superlate, but I'm looking forward to using this playlist while writing this weekend!
Wed. 10/26/11 11:47pm Adam in Portland:

Floozies! Floozies! Floozies!
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:47pm Julie:

  Wed. 10/26/11 11:47pm Julie:

  Wed. 10/26/11 11:51pm efd:

Wed. 10/26/11 11:53pm Holly in NC:

Thanks for Tubeway & OMD, efd!
Wed. 10/26/11 11:56pm Adam in Portland:

Everyone, everyone calm down. I think Cheri is simply trying to get us all to rent Air Bounce brand air castles for Halloween parties this weekend.
Wed. 10/26/11 11:56pm Van in Dallas:

Still getting used to freeform radio. It's not us requesting of you guys playing, it's us consuming what you are offering. Not much overcross there.
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:56pm Julie:

$13.09 to take him to 80 percent?
  Wed. 10/26/11 11:57pm efd:
