Listener comments!

  9:04am
pierre:

sweet friday to you Scott!
Bonjour listeners
  9:11am
Cheri Pi:

Bonjour à tous!
  9:12am
scott:

Bonjour pierre et cheri!
  9:20am
wildneil:

Hello Scott! Thank you for coming today.
  9:23am
scott:

Thank you wildneil.
  9:29am
Bad Ronald:

Zofo!
  9:31am
wildneil:

Sounds similar to "Hangman" by Led Zep...
  9:38am
pierre:

your french is good, Scott.
  9:39am
Bad Ronald:

"Bron-Y-Aur Stomp"
  9:40am
wildneil:

Led Zeppelin liked "world music" after hearing it on a shortwave radio as a child...
  9:40am
wildneil:

Led Zeppelin 3 is really really good...as is "The Object" a very very underrated effort on their part...
  9:41am
wildneil:

Well, John Paul Jones anyway...droney folkie is what you want I think....
  9:42am
yair yona (tel aviv, Earth):

hey Scott, wha happening?
  9:44am
Lee:

Not Bron-Y-Aur Stomp but just "Bron-Y-Aur" perhaps? Great Zeppelin instrumental, would be great to hear that on air.
  9:45am
wildneil:

amazing sounds...hammond organ? Or middle eastern bagpipes?
  9:45am
scott:

morning yair! Or afternoon where you are.
  9:46am
Bad Ronald:

"Hats Off To (Roy) Harper"?
  9:47am
scott:

wildneil, bagpipes, this: http://www.emrecords.net/photo_various/YoshiWada2.jpg
  9:48am
scott:

maybe it's from the movie Song Remains t he Same? Is there a folky montage? It's been a long time.
  9:49am
wildneil:

Once, back in the early to mid 90's I saw a guy in central park playing 5 or 6 different types of bagpipes including an incredibly cool sounding Eyptian or African bagpipe...
  9:50am
Lee:

Yes I believe the song in "The Song Remains The Same" you're referring to is "Bron-Y-Aur."
  9:51am
wildneil:

Gallows Pole?
  9:52am
Bad Ronald:

I think Lee's right, the limo ride to the Garden...
  9:55am
yair yona (tel aviv, Earth):

the track in Song Remains is Bron-y-Aur, the instrumental tune.
the Stomp one is from LZ3, which is has vocals and a bass drum.
  9:56am
scott:

Hmmmmmmm, that might be it!
  9:56am
Bad Ronald:

"Bron-y-Aur" is featured on Physical Graffiti as well.
  9:59am
pierre:

i love this Scott, many thanks.
I'm surrounded w/ people that talks about fashion, clothes, money, and i don't give a sh*t about it, THE LONG RALLY is really my favourie fellow.
  10:00am
scott:

:)
  10:00am
yair yona (tel aviv, Earth):

Bron-Y-Aur is quite a challenge to play, I tell you that.
  10:00am
pierre:

who's on that pic?
  10:01am
Bad Ronald:

Ha ha, nice photo of Plant!
  10:02am
yair yona (tel aviv, Earth):

BTW, I just finished reading Richie York's biography of LZ, it's quite a great book, recommended.
I learned that of all albums, it was Presence that was Jimmy Page's fav album, which is interesting as it's so far away from their early five albums. it's a killer album though I'm a sucker for Physical Graffiti..
  10:04am
pierre:

i didn't recognize him, i was like "eh… how weird that Scott has a picture of my uncle"
  10:04am
wildneil:

@Scott-
For some droney, science fictiony bluegrass try The Horseflies, they are on myspace...also The Warsaw Village Band,...they sing songs about sex (sometimes) in traditional , bluegrassy/complex hypnotic house music style...its really pretty interesting, actually! http://warsawvillageband.net/
  10:05am
Bad Ronald:

Yeah it's a tough call although I tend towards Presence myself. Classic rock radio ruined a couple of tracks off of Physical Graffiti for me...
  10:06am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

umm...hello..why is he wagging his finger at me??
  10:07am
Bad Ronald:

cuz yer chekin' out his speedo...
  10:07am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

my eye was drawn to that silver Dodge van instead!
  10:09am
Bad Ronald:

My mistake. I think I see a Mustang and Plymouth too...
  10:14am
pierre:

but what's the brand of that speedo then?
  10:15am
wildneil:

Eureka?
  10:15am
wildneil:

Oh its Polish, made by Stanislaw Kielbasa,,,
  10:16am
Robert:

my friend runs a rehearsal studio and the guy who owns the building claims to have known nick drake but never knew he was a recording artist. my friend took in some CDs and the guy was blown away. true story
  10:18am
yair yona (tel aviv, Earth):

Niiiceee.... hope you'll leave Down By The Seaside playing afterwards
  10:19am
Chris from DC:

A picture of Wada's bagpipe contraption here

  10:19am
scott:

Bron-Y-Aur was totally IT! Thanks everyone.
  10:20am
jamesie:

Nicely reflective and gentle show, a real treat; lots of love to you Scott and to those listening...
  10:23am
scott:

cool, thanks!
  10:23am
yair yona (tel aviv, Earth):

Funny, was listening to the Gunn-Truscinski album yesterday, Steve Gunn is half god (nels cline is a whole one)
  10:24am
scott:

Steve Gunn here on the show next week!
  10:26am
yair yona (tel aviv, Earth):

GREAT! will listen to it!
  10:30am
slugluv1313:

excellent show, Scott!

@ Pierre re: people who surround you -- MY THOUGHTS/FEELINGS EXACTLY!!! too many folks out there way too concerned with transitory materialistic STUFF

@ Bad Ronald: i totally agree, "classic rock" radio ruined many songs i really loved as a kid :)
  10:33am
pierre:

@ slugluv1313 : yeah, i mean that's their job, but i just can't bear to hear talks about shoes, and how much it will sale, or stuff like that, i mean there is THINGS happening outthere in the WORLD
  10:35am
Lee:

That was kind of reminiscent of Bernard Herman's Taxi Driver theme,,,
  10:37am
harveyjohn:

Diggin' the laid back ambiance!!!!
  10:37am
harveyjohn:

Diggin' the laid back ambiance!!!!
  10:37am
wildneil:

@Pierre-
Well, most people are completely ignorant of the rampant corporatacracy (national socialism) that is rising globally....government inextricably entangled with private companies using the private company's techology to spy on all of us...librarians asked to report those reading "dangerous books"...etc....all in an effort to stamp out "pre-crime"!
  10:43am
pierre:

@ Wild Neil : yeah that's it, i feel like R. Plant's agreeing with us.
  10:44am
Mike East:

thanks for the Van Morrison, Scott. Happy Friday everyone!
  10:46am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

happy Friday, Mike East...now just TRY to get these images out of your head!
  10:47am
G.G.:

OCCUPY WALL STREET
  10:53am
Mike East:

I haven't allowed myself to look for very long for fear that they'd be burned into my retina
  11:02am
yair yona (tel aviv, Earth):

it can also be White Summer, btw. but this one doesn't have vocals as well...
  11:27am
hubba:

Whatcha doin?

Eatin chocolate...

Where'd you find it?
  11:31am
slugluv1313:

@ Pierre -- EXACTLY! i have known people in the fashion world for years who basically got into it as a means of creativity, self-expression, etc. and they cannot stand the consumerism OVER-KILL!
  11:37am
pierre:

@ slugluv 13 13 : fashion is an industry, as well as a very ranked business, everybody doing small tasks, but nothing really strike me as being part of the world. I mean i like easy and futile, but who would have thought that creating futile, would be soooo boring…
  11:41am
FRED:

will betsy be back this fall? Hope so
  11:43am
Bad Ronald:

Harry! - I love Moonies' cover of this with Ringo.
  11:46am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

weird, I was just browsing through a review of this record on Pitchfork (8.0)!
  11:48am
scott:

Oh so Pitchfork jumped the shark.
  11:49am
Brian in UK:

Your man Plant is wearing a Wolverhampton Wanderers shirt. Well just sbout.
  11:54am
Cecile:

Hola, all! Working from my fave location today, Chez Cecile.
  11:57am
Cecile:

As for fashion, to me the epitome is Ralph Rucci- wearable art, one piece at a time, items to be loved and treasured and worn while living a great life. Mass-market fashion is fun, but too transient.
  11:57am
Cecile:

  11:58am
Cecile:

And yair, I love Presence. First Zep LP I encountered in present tense as a budding music fan.
  11:59am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

going out in a great way, Scott!
  11:59am
Mike East:

My wife just bought me a pair of fancy leather boots. For me, they'll fit into your category of "wearable art, one piece at a time, items to be loved and treasured and worn while living a great life." I'm very excited about them. She's picking up today.
  12:00pm
Bad Ronald:

Great show Scott, thanks!
  12:00pm
Cecile:

That's the same with my industrial kilt...when it finally gets finished.
  12:01pm
pierre:

yeah this was/is great, thx Scott
  12:04pm
Mike East:

Oh, nice Cecile. I was also thinkin' about gettin one of those.
  12:29pm
scott:
