Tue. 7/26/11 3:39am Brick Van Dee:

  Tue. 7/26/11 3:40am Julie:

@Brick check out the cover of Kate Bush's the dreaming
  Tue. 7/26/11 3:40am T-Zero:

re: Cocteau at half-speed. I've had Richenel's l'esclave endormi for years and still can't decide if I like it better at 45 or 33
  Tue. 7/26/11 3:47am King David:

Some Gary Numan I've found is pretty cool at half speed as well
  Tue. 7/26/11 3:52am KP:

The Association! My first real concert. Saw the Who at same place about a month later. Compare & contrast.
  Tue. 7/26/11 3:53am Julie:

Both great bands
  Tue. 7/26/11 3:53am T-Zero:

At least I think it's Richenel. The vinyl's just collected dust for ages since no turntable.
  Tue. 7/26/11 3:54am T-Zero:

@KP My first concert was The Tubes
  Tue. 7/26/11 3:55am KP:

Opening act for Who was Orpheus, Fantastic one-hit wonder band. And they used Magnatone guitars, of whichi had one at time
  Tue. 7/26/11 3:56am KP:

The Who were then pictures of Lilly, Happy Jack, Cant Explain. Never better. Next time i saw them they had the tape loops and it made me sad.
  Tue. 7/26/11 4:05am marika:

cocteu twins was great in wrong speed! don't want it to be any other way
  Tue. 7/26/11 4:16am T-Zero:

Ok. It was l'esclave endormi. Found it on YouTube to confirm my recall *lol*
  Tue. 7/26/11 4:17am T-Zero:

Sorry Julie. I'll return to listening here now ;)
  Tue. 7/26/11 4:18am Julie:

I know how it is when you need to know something!
Tue. 7/26/11 4:24am Brick Van Dee:

Wow, based on that last track I'm definitely getting hold of The Dreaming!
  Tue. 7/26/11 4:24am Julie:

The Dreaming is amazing
  Tue. 7/26/11 4:29am KP:

Is this kate bush. is great.
  Tue. 7/26/11 4:29am Julie:

  Tue. 7/26/11 4:30am KP:

  Tue. 7/26/11 4:30am KP:

  Tue. 7/26/11 4:44am Julie:

Fred, like an hour or two!
  Tue. 7/26/11 4:44am demo:

@Julie Kate's interviews posted above.
  Tue. 7/26/11 4:45am T-Zero:

I just get a page not found error
Tue. 7/26/11 4:52am Brick Van Dee:

As to Delius, I think Kate was inspired by Ken Russell's film about the composer, "Song of Summer". It's worth checking out, but then I'm a big Ken fan!
  Tue. 7/26/11 4:52am pierre:

Bonjour Julie !
Bonjour listeners of the night,

well tuesday is time for the dark morning of the soul.
  Tue. 7/26/11 4:58am Julie:

Bonjour pierre!
Tue. 7/26/11 5:00am Matt from Springfield:

Morning Julie!
Missed the long Kate set, but that gives me something to look forward to at work!

Bonjour listener of the night [late morning]!
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:01am Julie:

You guys saying listener of the night makes me want to address you all as children of the night
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:02am T-Zero:

As long as you don't make us go into the corn
Tue. 7/26/11 5:03am Matt from Springfield:

Ha ha, children of the night, children of the corn!
@pierre: Dark Mourning of the Soul...
Tue. 7/26/11 5:05am Matt from Springfield:

I just looked up Maya Deren based on earlier comments--thanks for enlightening me about her! I should see if Ubuweb has any of her films in full length.
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:06am Julie:

the children of the night dig the upside down bat music
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:08am pierre:

yeah i usually love to hear the night, you know all those sounds…

La Nuit Sombre de L'Âme.
Tue. 7/26/11 5:09am Matt from Springfield:

Clap for the Chilean goth!!
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:12am Julie:

oh forgot to say I put up that photo because it was the obvious inspiration for the cover of The Dreaming
Tue. 7/26/11 5:17am Matt from Springfield:

I know The Dreaming is one of your fav Kate albums, but one I never really checked out. But like Brick, I just might take a listen after hearing "Sat In Your Lap" later. I see it also has "Get Out Of My House", which you've played before. It sounds really out there, but I just might like it, listening to it as a whole artpiece!
Tue. 7/26/11 5:18am Matt from Springfield:

@pierre: "A Summer by the Beach"?
Tue. 7/26/11 5:18am Matt from Springfield:

Français 7 inch! Is this a Montreal find?
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:19am pierre:

yeah that's it Matt, a summer by/on the beach…
and i thought i knew french music…
Tue. 7/26/11 5:21am Matt from Springfield:

Yeah! I know a bit of French, it's difficult for me to listen but I do better with text.
Tue. 7/26/11 5:22am Matt from Springfield:

One time I found a French article on the city Constantine, Algeria. I LOVED the title, in French and English. "Splendeur et délabrement", "Splendor and Decay". Either would be a great album name!
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:22am jaycjay:

Ah yeah! The memories/
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:24am jaycjay:

I have this Josie Cotton LP, there are a few cool songs on it.
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:25am pierre:

a goo name indeed Matt, althought i like the english word "Decay", i like the sound of that word
Tue. 7/26/11 5:26am Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: If you're back-announcing soon, the Unto Ashes song "Letzte Ritter" means "The Last Knight". Letz-ta Ritter.
Tue. 7/26/11 5:27am Matt from Springfield:

Fibonaccis! This one works well for Dark Night! Especially being called Somnambulist! (That's how it's spelled, does the song title omit the second "m"?)
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:29am T-Zero:

I like that Fibonaccis track too, and yes, that's how they spelled it
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:32am ausmanx:

maya's films are on ubuweb. but most are on youtube too cos she only made a few and they're mostly shorts (Divine Horsemen does go on a bit!)... http://www.google.com.au/search?q=deren&tbo=p&tbm=vid&source=vgc&hl=en&client=firefox-a&aq=f
it's definitely worth getting the DVD. and i reckon it helps that she's pretty damn gorgeous...
Tue. 7/26/11 5:34am Matt from Springfield:

Thanks T-Zero, and ausmanx for looking into that. Avant garde comes naturally to FMU listeners!
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:36am Marmalade kitty:

I'm listening! ..my hayfever is BAD today
Great show!
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:36am ausmanx:

indeed, Matt, avant garde or just interested in the arts generally! a cool community...
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:39am pierre:

yeah you are right, great french Juiie !
Tue. 7/26/11 5:41am Matt from Springfield:

Forgiven, you didn't get your nap! Also my guiding comment's been buried up the list, including by several of my own comments!
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:42am Julie:

@MK awww poor baby! mine too!
Tue. 7/26/11 5:43am Matt from Springfield:

RIP -- my generation's Janis, just as I feared. Except I was saying that 3 years ago, a troubled soul she was. At least she brought on the soul revival in Britain.
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:43am T-Zero:

This is the first time I've seen Winehouse played on fmu (well, at least while I was listening) since she died. I was kinda surprised.
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:44am Julie:

this is the one and only Winehouse song I know, and that's because it's from Secret Diary of a Call Girl
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:45am T-Zero:

Ahhh. In full disclosure, I don't have personally any of her music. But I've always liked her voice
Tue. 7/26/11 5:45am Matt from Springfield:

Good morning MK! Hope your hayfever gets better!
It was April to June where I live when it was bad. Does NYC still have a pollen problem Julie?
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:46am Julie:

I have allergies year round. yay.
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:48am ausmanx:

and we all have allergies to commercial radio... but WFMU is the pill to take
Tue. 7/26/11 5:50am Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: Besides my suggestions to vacation in Antarctica right now, Yair Yona's said that Tel Aviv doesn't have any pollen problems. Though if you're allergic year round you still might find some allergen, it's worth a try!
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:50am T-Zero:

Nice song to close the set with
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:51am Marmalade kitty:

Morning Matt :) I can't even breathe never mind sniffling ! Nice AmyW track love that girls voice! This song!! so sweet and sad?
Tue. 7/26/11 5:51am Matt from Springfield:

@ausmanx: Hells yes! Get heavy doses of WFMU, throughout the day AND night!

Love this Ray piano demo!
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:51am ausmanx:

pollen is the least of Tel Aviv's problems...
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:52am T-Zero:

Ooops guess it wasn't the last after all
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:53am Marmalade kitty:

Tue. 7/26/11 5:53am Matt from Springfield:

@ausmanx: (Psst..I actually typed "it's worth a shot" before I realized what that would look like, refering to Tel Aviv!)
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:54am ausmanx:

i wish you had, Matt!
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:55am Julie:

Hey thanks you guys for listening! and commenting, it is nice to know you/re out there!
Tue. 7/26/11 5:56am Matt from Springfield:

You go to sleep, and dream she's with you. Sleepy and down waking up, you take your mother's little helper, and in the morning you're a Sunshine Superman!! Until the helper dies down, then take another!
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:56am Marmalade kitty:

can you hear my tambourine?
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:56am Julie:

@MK yes I can!
Tue. 7/26/11 5:57am Matt from Springfield:

"Thank YOU for programming", Julie! Always glad to hear you and chat with this wonderful audience! Rest up Julie!
Tue. 7/26/11 5:57am Matt from Springfield:

@MK: Is it the GREEN one? ;)
Tue. 7/26/11 5:59am Matt from Springfield:

Did I mention that I like the "How Soon Is Now" loop for your final talkover music? It's better than the music-box anime for the dawn coming up!

As always, have a great Tuesday everyone!
  Tue. 7/26/11 5:59am Marmalade kitty:

It's funny how your nose can be bungeged, then all of a sudden it just..
  Tue. 7/26/11 1:05pm Van:

Wow. Maya Deren. Discovered her about the same time as Kate, in 1983. Both introduced to me by a friend. Saw some of her old movies on VHS back then! Loved the KaTe tribute for KaTemas! And I'm only through 1st set so far on archive! Solid as always Julie!
  Tue. 7/26/11 2:28pm Joe’s Burger Palace:

Maya Deren’s stuff was also available streaming on Netflix awhile back. Meshes of the Afternoon is essential surrealist film viewing. : )

Lisa Gerrard does have one later period English language song – their cover of The Wind that Shakes the Barley on Into the Labyrinth. I’m with Megan M, definitely like Lisa, but to each their own.
