Here's the video of Captain Ahab's performance on WFMU (projections, puppets, fun!):

  10:03am
pierre:

great lives past week
(i mean every week)
but i felt spoiled last week.
  10:18am
Liz B.:

Anyone have a wedding story for me?
  10:20am
listener james from westwood:

a crazy-work-monday-belated thank-you, liz, for "echo beach." an old fave of mine from when WDRE/WLIR on long island played tons of 80s music/1-hit wonders.
  10:21am
Greg from Bloomfield:

My friend's (then) fiancee surprised him by hiring Eric Bachmann to play at the reception!
  10:24am
Liz B.:

Whoa, Eric Bachmann?? That is great/hilarious!
  10:29am
Liz B.:

Ever notice how they always play inappropriately themed songs at wedding receptions (infidelity, revenge, etc)? "Runaround Sue," "I Will Survive," and at this wedding I hit over the weekend, the radio edit of Cee Lo's "Fuck You" ("Forget You")!
  10:31am
Greg from Bloomfield:

"Hey Ya" has to be the king of those songs. Everybody ignores the "If nothing lasts forever / then what makes love the exception?" part and focuses on shaking it like a Polaroid picture.
  10:33am
still b/p:

A few decades ago, I saw the bride and groom (neither sober -- surprise!) fighting before the day's celebrating was done. I'm guessing that ain't so uncommon.
  10:35am
Chris T.:

I saw my old lacrosse coach doing a dance at a wedding that involved him using his shoe like it was a telephone
  10:37am
Pat Byrne:

I once was asked to film a wedding for a friend and my battery died before the vows. I never gave them the footage out of embarrassment. True story.
  10:40am
Liz B.:

Ha ha, the shoe-phone dance sounds pretty good!
  10:40am
Greg from Bloomfield:

@Pat- a buddy of mine had a similar thing happen while shooting P Diddy for some vodka thing. Needless to say, Mr. Diddy was not happy.
  10:42am
Lonious Monk:

HELLO WFMU
bonjour Liz *-*
  10:43am
#K:

ah geez I thought Art Museums were singing "Scharpling....Scharpling"
  10:43am
pierre:

salut Lonious !
  10:44am
Pat's Friend:

So THAT"s what happened!
  10:45am
Dominick:

A player piano playing all Beatle songs in the foyer of the reception hall broke into Lady Madonna just as the bride arrived.
  10:45am
helsingfred:

great stuff great stuff
  10:46am
Lonious Monk:

hello pierre !
  10:46am
Richard from Venezuela:

Good morning Liz and all the listeners.
  10:47am
Liz B.:

Alright! Greetings to the Parisians and to Richard in So. America!
  10:47am
Cheri Pi:

I love The Limiñanas ; I wonder if their record is easy to find in the U.S.?
  10:48am
pierre:

Salut R from V !
  10:49am
Richard from Venezuela:

Hi Pierre.
  10:50am
Cheri Pi:

Salut Pierre!
  10:55am
pierre:

@ Liz : no wedding stories, i just know a guy who married an irish woman, and they had a celtic wedding with like a druid doing the ceremony and all. I saw some pics, pretty neat.
  10:56am
still b/p:

A perhaps over-cautious bride once asked for friendly opinion on whether Smoke Gets in your Eyes might be unsuitable for the groom and bride's mother dance -- a wrong note to hit on the happy day: "Yet today my love has flown away, I am without my love."
  10:58am
Carmichael:

Hi Liz and foreigners. Martha and her Muffins; enlightened choice!
  11:00am
Lonious Monk:

tell us more Pierre!
  11:01am
pierre:

"Rocket In My Pocket" by Jimmy Loyd is suitable/unappropriate

@Lonious : that's it - just that. I wish, but no.
  11:05am
frenchee:

"smoke gets in your eyes" is one of my fave songs of all time. If you want an "eyeful" wedding song, I recommend "I only have eyes for you"
tho.
  11:07am
helsingfred:

yes torture this miserable song, thank you !!
  11:08am
frenchee:

this is crazy unlistenable!
  11:08am
pierre:

(oh, and salut @ Cheri Pi)
  11:08am
βrian:

"Love is like a river."
  11:09am
Vinny in London:

Hi Liz,
In regards to inappropriate songs at weddings, my friend told me that he was a wedding recently in Scotland and that the bride and her father had a solo dance to the song "Your sex in on fire" by Kings of Leon whilst pointing at each other. Creepy
  11:09am
jojo:

where can i get that track that sounded like a dying record player?
  11:10am
Liz B.:

Jojo, hit Ethan Persoff for that track:
http://ep.tc
  11:11am
still b/p:

There are highland flings, and then there are highland family flings.
  11:12am
βrian:

Ethan Persoff makes sadism almost understandable.
  11:13am
jojo:

i wanted that "is that all there is?" song at my wedding but was vetoed...
  11:15am
Lonious Monk:

Calin - such a sweet band-name
  11:17am
Liz B.:

Wait till you see the next band name! It is pretty amazing...
  11:19am
jesse:

I've been enjoying these flogsta danshall 45s you guys are playing recently
  11:21am
Lonious Monk:

oh!nice too! (by the way the two guys from Calin have also great pseudonyme : Mad Marx & Eddy Mitchum - and thanks for the discovery)
  11:23am
still b/p:

Lazercrotch, if not careful, could be connected to Sex on Fire.
  11:23am
Liz B.:

Who came first, Lazercrotch or Sascrotch?
  11:28am
paul:

saskrotch has been around since the mid '00s
  11:29am
paul:

and he was wearing a Best Show On WFMU shirt last time i saw him, btw
  11:29am
R I S K Y !:

ROCKING SHOW LIZ! YEAAHHHHH TAKE EM TO THE ROCK RANCH!
  11:30am
jesse:

Hi Liz,
I'm pretty sure this track is not by Morteza, it's by Toofan, called "Khodaye Asemoonha (God of the Skies)"
  11:31am
jesse:

there is a youtube video here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXqZ0QdH7Y0&feature=player_embedded
  11:33am
Liz B.:

Thanks for the correction, Jesse, I guess the tracklist is totally incorrect for that one!
  11:38am
jesse:

yeah, I'm not a Farsi speaker myself but I got that from someone who is, so take however you like. I think they had to press the record before that correction made it on there.
  11:47am
Ike:

At first I thought you typed "Scratchcrotch! GNFAB. But then I realized it was Saskrotch. That's a bit disappointing. Between the two, I say Lazercrotch is a much more awesome name.
  11:49am
βrian:

I just don't get why events information is still read aloud. Give 'em a URL and be done with it, I say.
  11:51am
dc pat:

I don't see ANYthing wrong with this set so far...
  11:54am
Lonious Monk:

(very nice chalk circle!)
  11:56am
dc pat:

still going strong Liz B
  11:58am
Sasquatch:

You mock me.
  11:59am
dc pat:

great stuff, thanks Liz.
  12:00pm
jesse:

excellent show today, made my morning
  2:13pm
chris:

awesome show!!
  11:12am
Mariano:

Hey, I'm getting to your show a few days late, but it's just so perfect: my girlfriend's house is kind of in the woods, she's at work, and I'm sitting here with the front door open, working on my computer (I'm a graphic designer), and this show is providing the perfect soundtrack. Thanks so much, as ever!
