Listener comments!

  5:45pm what day is it?:

am i early or late?
  5:48pm Drummer Some:

@what day is it?
So glad you're here. Now we can begin....presently.
  5:50pm annie:

whew. i can actually listen of a tuesday.
  5:54pm Drummer Some:

Hello there Ms. Annie. A thrill to have you along for the jaunt.
  5:59pm annie:

yes, done for the day and have my feet up and beer at hand.. yuka honda is sold out at her japan-fundraiser in the city.. this thing has hit us all pretty hard..
  5:59pm glenn:

present. assuming there's a roll call, that is.
  5:59pm annie:

hey glenn, leave your apple on the desk..
  6:00pm Drummer Some:

@Glenn
Did the nuns crack your wrist for saying "here" instead of "present"?
  6:01pm glenn:

presbyterians don'ts got nuns, yo.
  6:06pm glenn:

annie's gone from one form of holiday to another.
  6:06pm Drummer Some:

Presbyterians got them their own wrist-crackers, no doubt.
  6:08pm Parq:

<head pokes up from eight-ton pile of papers on desk, smiles weakly> As here as I can be at the moment, gang.
  6:09pm annie:

hey parq
and yes glenn, my evening holiday.. i took care of all those pesky "other" holidays... hurried job by the initial painter..
  6:11pm listener james from westwood:

i had nuns for kindergarten. they were not the most welcoming ambassadors i could have wanted for 13 years of education.
  6:13pm Drummer Some:

Listener James from Westwood, allow me to apologize to you on behalf of humanity.
  6:13pm glenn:

well, i was never much of a presbyterian, that's for sure, considering i was essentially told to leave sunday school and never come back. something to do with not believing in god, and being vocal about it.
  6:13pm Amanda:

Hi, all! Japan benefits are going on all over NYC and Jersey City -- many friends are planning special DJ nights, rock shows, and so on. It's inspiring to see people come together in the wake of tragedy and this show is no exception...
  6:14pm listener james from westwood:

it's all right, it was pretty clear early on that those nuns weren't actually human.
  6:15pm annie:

i have an old friend in tokyo... i hope he fled to his wife's family in china..
  6:15pm Drummer Some:

You said it Amanda. (You will all be hearing much MORE from Amanda in the weeks and months to come. Stay tuned...)
  6:16pm Amanda:

From what I understand, people in Tokyo are all right, insofar as that's possible
  6:18pm Sunday School:

@glenn: Look at the favor I did you -- FMU and you are a far better fit.
  6:18pm annie:

i hope so... his whole family is there.. and i have friends further up the coast..... my prayers have been busy
  6:21pm marcury:

Konbanwa!
  6:21pm annie:

oh doug, the last donation i made got "lost" joe said to just tack it on to my bill when i pay up.
  6:21pm Parq:

Oh, if only my experience with nuns had abated after kindergarten ...
  6:21pm glenn:

everybody should listen to amanda's show on whfr. she RAWKS! i can't figure out why they only broadcast wednesdays, though.
  6:22pm glenn:

she does have a touch of potty mouth though.
  6:23pm Drummer Some:

Annie,
Sorry about the missing payment form. I wish we could just do the whole thing psychically and move on from there.

Hello dear Marcury. I bow slowly and lowly in your direction.
  6:23pm glenn:

i like the word though, though. word.
  6:24pm annie:

..the like I
  6:29pm Drummer Some:

Glenn, I agree with you wholeheartedly about that certain WHFR program. I really, really agree with you. A lot.
  6:32pm glenn:

i have a japanese friend, kenny, otherwise known as "the beast from the east" who's obsessed by delta and chicago blues. he can play robert johnson note perfect, but it's very funny to hear someone singing the blues phonetically and with a japanese accent.
  6:33pm Amanda:

Thank you, Glenn! They are my good friends -- can't broadcast on any other day because the station is in their apartment. They need some time to themselves.
  6:35pm annie:

there's a pirate station near here and they said i could do a show... .. too bad most of my vinyl is gone.. :(

but i still have my cd collection.)
  6:35pm Joe McG:

This Hallelujahs track is great, Doug.
  6:36pm JJ:

Good to hear some other Japanese music besides noise and all that "out there" stuff.
  6:36pm ben wolcott:

second that, nice set
  6:37pm Drummer Some:

Glenn, sounds like you're describing Koichi Fujishima to a tee. He lives and busks in London. Has a group called the Fujii. Amazing steel player.
  6:37pm glenn:

i'd be interested in knowing what kind of equipment and stuff is req'd to do that kind of broadcasting. or is it podcasting?
  6:38pm Amanda:

I like this Sachiko Kanenobu, so Joni Mitchell-like.
  6:43pm annie:

any drumming is good.. any at all.. mmmm.. yup nectar for the ears
  6:43pm Drummer Some:

Yes, Amanda. I said Laura Nyro, but I think Joni Mitchell is more spot on.
  6:44pm Amanda:

Ha -- they are both accurate! Such a pretty track.

@Glenn -- lot of different ways you can do it, easy to research online (as Drummer Some is well aware). The technical end was never really my area of expertise though.
  6:48pm Drummer Some:

I would pay cash money to be the bass player on this track. I'd have really long sideburns and wear a faded jeans-jacket vest and stare at my shoes and not move a millimeter except my right hand.
  6:51pm annie:

my brother's foray into stage music: he played with his back to the crowd...
  6:52pm Drummer Some:

So did Miles Davis
  6:54pm annie:

hhmm. wonder if he knows that. i mean my brother.. hehe
  6:57pm Drummer Some:

You've been a very well-behaved audience. Not like that "other" audience. Have a sweet evening.
  6:58pm annie:

thanks doug, happy i could make it..
  7:02pm Drummer Some:

And huge thanks to board-op Amanda Nazario for making the trains run on time!!
  9:09am Brian in UK:

Better late than never. ref 6.48pm coolest bass player I saw was in Tinarawen, full desert garb and not a muscle did he move.

Nice touch this programme, Doug.

Good priming work on the Nazz front.
