Listener comments!

  12:08pm Cecile:

Hiya, Joe!
  12:08pm pierre:

Bonjour Joe Belock
  12:12pm pierre:

love this Kinks tune
  12:21pm Cecile:

Brother JT is a national treasure.
  12:25pm Cecile:

Joe, can you get the Sins sometime?
  12:31pm Cecile:

I was on strike - it does matter for morale.
  12:34pm Maggie B.:

thank you for this morale booster, Joe. Solidarity!
  12:43pm Joe B:

Hi Cecile, Maggie and Pierre! thanks for listening and commenting.
  12:44pm Joe B:

Cecile, you mean have the Sins play? I dunno ... Brian is our JT contact.
  12:44pm pierre:

"Stop & Think It Over" is originally from Greg Cartwright, right ?
(just asking because, this is a favourite)
  12:46pm Joe B:

yes pierre, originally on this very Compulsive Gamblers album!
  12:47pm Cheri Pi:

I love this Compulsive Gamblers!!
  12:47pm Cecile:

I was having a big Greg Cartwright craving, now filled!
  12:49pm Joe B:

The Sights version is from 2004, by the way, pre-dating the Mary Weiss version
  12:50pm clueless in MI:

yee damn hah!
  12:52pm Cecile:

Brian, get the Sins to play on FMU. Thanks.
  12:52pm Cecile:

Please. I forgot my manners...
  12:53pm Joe B:

Cecile, he did have the original sins on in 2006 or so when they did a reunion for a pal's birthday! a great session!
  12:55pm clueless in MI:

is this lena horne?
  12:56pm Cecile:

I'll have to listen to that. But five years. It's about time for another session...
  1:00pm Mike East:

whoa- i had a dream last night that there were floods outside my house...I better call my wife
  1:04pm randy in NC:

It was dirt, now it's paved, pretty soon it'll be 4 lane. This SCOTS tune pretty much sums up the area around here...
  1:08pm König Catfish:

Hey Joe, where you going with that Wurst in yo hand? Greetings from Bavaria. So cool to hear you here again! cheers, Dan
  1:12pm Joe B:

hey Dan! on tour?

hi Randy!
  1:12pm pierre:

thanks for the confirmation, "Crystal Gazing Luck Amazing" 's amazing album. I love "Whole Lotta Woman" to
  1:13pm dc pat:

hmm sounds like Langford singing with Rosie..
  1:14pm Marmalade kitty:

and the Waistcoats track this week will be.. ..?

Hope thats not too presumptuous of me! Although i didn't presume which track :)
  1:15pm Parq:

DC, I just checked in with Mister Gooogle, and that was indeed John L. (As Joe just confirmed).
  1:15pm König Catfish:

Nah, no tour. Just a-visitating mein fraulein! But next stop SXSW! See you there? D
  1:15pm dc pat:

gotta catch up on that Welsh redneck.
  1:16pm dc pat:

I saw him couple of months ago. Very entertaining chap--half the show is monologue.
  1:17pm Joe B:

DC pat, yes, it is Langford! Dan, no SXSW again for me this year, wish I was going.
  1:19pm Parq:

DC, some of those scruffy Brits are like that. When Wreckless Eric was on Terre T's show years ago, his raconteuring was even better than his songs.
  1:19pm Marmalade kitty:

Is that Bonnie or Jon Langford..?
  1:25pm dc pat:

kitty: I was talking about Jonnie
  1:26pm efd:

I was about to go get lunch but I'm staying at my desk until "Thirteen Women" is over.
  1:27pm Bad Ronald:

Damn this Dickie Thompson tune rawks! Go Joe!!!
  1:27pm Cheri Pi:

What a conundrum!
  1:28pm Marmalade kitty:

Someone commented last week saying, the Kinks had released lots of bad albums..
..This is rubbish!!
  1:31pm dc pat:

seems to be a reoccurring debate on these playlists. I think there are definitely some weak ones but Kinks are numbero uno in my book.
  1:33pm Cecile:

I love the Kinks, but I don't love a lot of their mid 70s stuff. To each their own.
  1:33pm Bad Ronald:

I believe they meant "the Kinks had released lots of killer tunez"...
  1:34pm pierre:

exactly a few things like the name and the voice is the same along all those albums.
  1:34pm Cecile:

Love this version of Lies.
  1:35pm Mayor Tanklestrauss:

sweet trilling lies!
  1:54pm Cecile:

"Where was my brain?" I think that's my theme song.
  2:07pm ?:

perhaps it's time for a new cart or two?
  2:12pm glenn:

i knew i heard people discussing the kinks. when he's in toronto, jon langford plays with the sadies, and is accompanied by the burlington welsh male choir, usually about 25 people or so. it is a thing of beauty.
  2:24pm Cecile:

that sounds lovely, glenn.
  2:26pm dmc:

rock out
  2:28pm dc pat:

yeah he was talking about the choir when I saw him...couldn't catch most of what he was saying..he talked a lot about Dogfish Head beer too.
  2:33pm glenn:

it's on youtube. the stage of the horseshoe tavern wasn't really built to accommodate 30 or so people, so it's a tight fit. anyway, hearing jon sing mekons songs that sally usually sings is pretty great. they also do the welsh national anthem, otherwise known as delilah. you also realize how good the sadies are.
  2:36pm Joe B:

I already realized how great the sadies are!
  2:39pm glenn:

they are pretty great. the john doe album with the sadies is very good, also.
  2:41pm glenn:

  2:46pm efd:

Good work keeping the Conspiracy of Owls goodness alive!
  2:47pm efd:

btw, there's a reissued version of their LP on cassette with two bonus tracks including a cover of the Bee Gees' "Idea."
  2:50pm Joe B:

Keeping it alive because I was late to the party!

Cool about extra tracks but too bad I hate cassettes!

They are playing SXSW, wish I was goin just for that!
  2:52pm efd:

Totally agree re cassettes! I didn't like them the first time around and I still don't. I think the bonus tracks are also available digitally fwiw.
  2:55pm james:

Sorry, but can anybody answer; what does "s/t" mean on the playlists? Sorry for bein dumb! thanks.
  2:56pm s/t:

= Self Titled - no worries
  2:56pm Parq:

In defense of cassettes, doing mix tapes was fun in a way that doing mix CDs or Itunes playlists just isn't. Operating a mechanical pause button to get the segs jus-s-s-t right was a gas.
  2:58pm cassettes:

blew the doors open for the DIYers!
  2:59pm efd:

Parq, yes, I was strictly referring to pre-recorded cassettes for sale. I was a voracious consumer of blank cassettes for part or all of four decades(!).
  3:00pm Marmalade Kitty:

Great show Joe..Respect
  3:00pm Marmalade Kitty:

Great show Joe..Respect
  4:28pm bob ueh:

new promos on way!!!
thanks so much for past plays!!!
