Listener comments!

  12:09pm numbatwombat:

thank you so much for the groundhogs! if you had not played them i was totally going to make a request! completely righteous! thanks!!!
  12:11pm Joe B:

meant to play Groundhogs first being it's groundhogs day! but as further evidence that mp3s fucking suck it didn't come up on the computer in time.
  12:13pm Parq:

If Joe B sees his shadow, we get six more weeks of rockin'!
  12:14pm numbatwombat:

that song rules! also i feel it is important to show solidarity with our involuntarily morlockian oppressed brethren and sistren dragged out of their warm holes to engage their rodent wizardry in forced metereology for the state! groundhog liberation front 2010! take it to the burrows, etc!
  12:19pm Listener Jumpy:

Great version of "Lay Lady Lay"!
  12:19pm north guinea hills:

Does WFMU have those new discs of the Stooges playing at the Electric Circus in 1971?
  12:20pm ?:

I think he sees his shadow! Rock on!
  12:20pm Joe B:

nope sorry
  12:21pm ?:

That's cause there's no sun in there! Poke out and you'll see it!
  12:23pm Joe B:

The nope sorry was for the Stooges inquiry
  12:25pm ?:

Oooooh! Phew!
  12:27pm 67tele:

Man that Neckbreakers guy sounds so much like Roger Daltrey, keep thinkin it some lost Who
  12:31pm dc pat:

will the Kinks reform this year?
  12:35pm dL:

i'm pretty sure ray and dave davies hate each other
  12:35pm dc pat:

well yeah but Ray keeps saying he's ready to do it.
  12:36pm dL:

well, even with that being a risk to their former glory, i'd still love to see it
  12:39pm Jim Rodford:

How are they risking their former glory? The whole notion of "tarnishing a legacy" is complete 100% bullshit invented by fanboys without lives
  12:40pm dL:

are you calling me a fanboy without a life? i'd much rather see the who in '68 than now
  12:40pm dL:

by the way joe, are the doughboys having their record release at the crossroads in garwood? or did i miss it? because i like 2 minutes from there
  12:42pm Jim Rodford:

But it's not '68. so you are saying they should sit home and do nothing for the last 42 years? Lame idea.
  12:44pm dL:

i'm not saying they should or shouldn't do anything. they can do whatever they want, i don't care. but i would rather see the kinks when they were young and full of life and their songs were fresh and new, than when they're old men playing songs they wrote when they were in their 20s
  12:45pm ?:

so why do you wanna see the Kinks reunite if they are so tired now?
  12:46pm 62fenderjazz:

Fight!
  12:47pm dL:

because i still like the kinks and i would like to see them, and this would be my only chance. is that ok? or should my opinions be more black and white
  12:49pm Jim Rodford:

Bloody 'Ell, of course I'm THE Jim Rodford!
  12:50pm ?:

...that debate has been yawnsville for the last twenty years. Wanna see something? Go. Don't? Don't go. Thee End :)
  12:51pm Jim Rodford:

hey DL, you are the one complaining about old guys still at it. If you go in with that attitude, I wish it was 68, you likely won't enjoy it is all I am saying.
  12:51pm dL:

thank you
  12:53pm dL:

ok let's all be friends this is a stupid argument
  12:58pm Terry and Julie:

We don't need no friends as long as we gaze on Waterloo Sunset...
  12:59pm dc pat:

so, will the Kinks reform this year?
  12:59pm dL:

now THERE'S a band I'd like to see reunited!
  1:00pm dc pat:

all I have to say is I'd go to see the original Kinks in a heartbeat.
  1:01pm dc pat:

I mean reformed...but the Who on the other hadn...I'm with dL, I'd have to go back to 68. Not saying they shouldn't keep going, just preference.
  1:03pm Cecile:

Wow, some cool GoF action going on in the guitars.
  1:04pm dc pat:

Cecile, just what I was thinking. This is pretty great.
  1:05pm Frank:

My philosophy is that if half the band isn't around anymore to participate in a "reunion", then I don't want to see it. The Who could very well be my favorite band ever, but I wouldn't pay to see them today. Luckily, I was fortunate enough to see 2 shows on the Quadrophenia tour back in the late 90's when Entwhistle was still alive. Despite Townshend bradishing the acoustic for most of the show, it was stil amazing.
  1:06pm Cecile:

I think they must love GoF too, they probably changed the name because Armalite was copyrighted or something.
  1:06pm Joe B:

Dave the Spazz will vouch for the current edition of the Beach Boys!
  1:08pm dc pat:

Frank: right on. That's my rule too. That's why it's even more cool that the Kinks would be 4 out of 4....but not even sure Dave can play guitar anymore, so...never mind.
  1:08pm Cecile:

vouch for the goodness or the badness or the Uncle Jesse-cameo-ness?
  1:09pm Cecile:

I don't make any rules at all.
If I did, I would not have gotten to see Arthur Lee with Baby Lemonade and I would have been the poorer for it.
  1:09pm Frank:

Very true Pat. Does anyone know why Dave's tour was cancelled? Was it health issues or lack of ticket sales?
  1:11pm dc pat:

..and Cecile is smarter than all of us..
  1:11pm Frank:

Well, Cecile, there are exceptions to every rule! I would have made an exception for that show too if I could have.
  1:12pm Cecile:

that's my whole life, finding exceptions. It drives my husband nuts. LOL!

Who was the vocalist on the RStevie cut?
  1:12pm Arlene Patulski:

we need all r stevie moore stream. All r stevie all the time!
  1:14pm Cecile:

he has enough music for it.
  1:16pm Dean Rispler:

Joe! Great show yet again! Thank you. Check your email - i just sent you something.
  1:20pm Dean Rispler:

Well, I tried to send you an email but it was bounced back. Why is that?
  1:24pm Joe B:

Hey Dean! did you try joe at wfmu (dot) org?
  1:26pm dc pat:

ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT! I'll go see the Pierced Arrows already!! jeeze...
  1:26pm Cecile:

wow, fred sounds absolutely tormented on this song.

I have to figure out how to see them later this month...
  1:27pm Dean Rispler:

I see what happened - sending it out again. Thanks.
  1:29pm Dean Rispler:

Joe - you should have it now. Thanks!
  1:32pm Cecile:

Wolfmother dude sounds less like Rubber Plant now and more like a typical biker-rock vocalist. Which is cool.
  1:45pm Cecile:

probably you and everyone will throw their lunch at me, but could you slide some very old Smiths on?
  1:47pm Joe B:

Sorry Cecile, can't do the Smiths. ever
  1:50pm Cecile:

That's ok. It's just the Distant Seconds tiptoed very close to that border. I respect your boundaries! ;D
  1:54pm Cecile:

I think it's a reference to the phrase "hindsight is 20/20"
  1:59pm Cecile:

EMMIT RHODES?!?!?!?!?!

Can you play some solo Emmit, too?
  2:00pm paula:

the original of "Live" -- THANK YOU! and thanks to the Bangles for their sweet cover...
  2:01pm Chris:

Speaking of reunions past their prime...I'd see a merry go round reunion.
  2:02pm Rubble:

Still can't believe how NOT dated this recording sounds. Good tune.
  2:02pm Cecile:

yes, paula, it turned on so many people to the MGR. I was one of them.
  2:03pm Joe B:

no solo Emmitt handy, sorry cecile - nothing personal! yes Paula, Bangles version is great and boosted awareness of the original!
  2:03pm Listener Jumpy:

Joe I think you got a requst for the Smithereens, not the Smiths.
  2:05pm Cecile:

that's fine! No problem, Joe. Any Emitt is good Emitt. Do you have "Gonna Make Me a Soldier?"
  2:07pm Parq:

Can I still throw stuff at 'Cile? I've eaten all of my lunch, but I got some paperclips handy.
  2:08pm Cecile:

Sure, why not.
*puts on goalie mask*
  2:08pm Chris:

I don't know if this was posted on the fmu blog or not but here is MGM on the dating game - weird
http://zambonisoundtracks.blogspot.com/2010/01/merry-go-round-listen-listen-definitive.html
  2:17pm Listener Jumpy:

Cecile, I'd never throw anything at you. But Smiths, ugh.
  2:18pm Cecile:

I like their first couple of singles a lot.
  2:22pm Dean Rispler:

Joe! Thanks for playing this! Sounds even better on your show. I have alerted those Bamboo Kids to turn it on.
  2:35pm John:

And "Ordinary People" beat out "Raging Bull."
  2:42pm Frank:

Wow! Faces and The Hives back to back...nice!
  2:45pm Cecile:

@John, the Oscars don't mean a thing.

And no I'm not bitter about "The Hangover" getting no noms. But I haz no taste.
  2:47pm Cecile:

I have to dl this Yoko disc from a reputable source that reimburses the artist.
  2:48pm dc pat:

NO WAY! Joe playing Yoko??
  2:48pm Cecile:

Joe has played a lot of Yoko of late.
  2:50pm Joe B:

Getting fired up for her FMU appearance! I like Yoko!
  2:50pm dc pat:

Well in' that somethin? I don't know why...
  2:51pm Cecile:

I love Yoko with Porcupine Tree. Awesome. I need to get this. Because stoopid emusic doesn't have it.
  2:52pm Chris:

ok, i take back everything bad i said about you yoko
  2:53pm John:

A common debate at the record store. I love her 'Plastic Ono Band" record. Never heard this stuff, now I'll have to buy it.
  2:53pm ?:

"Buy the MP3 album for $10.99 at the Amazon MP3 Downloads store." they also have the CD, new and used.
  2:57pm Cecile:

I'm going to do that.
I just wanted to support emusic. I try. But it's hard.

I never heard Yoko until college. And then I wondered what the fuss was about. Then again I was listening to lots of Birthday Party and Albert Ayler.
  2:58pm Cecile:

I mean the fuss with her being so weird. I liked her quite a lot!
  2:58pm Bad Ronald:

Dare I say, I like this Briefs version better than the original...
  2:59pm David Shortell:

See y’all in Red Bank Thursday for the Ribeye Brothers’ show at the Dublin House!
Or was that mentioned already?
  2:59pm Bubbles:

I heard Yoko's going on tour with Ted Nugent.
  3:02pm Cecile:

Great show, Joe!
