Options Brian Turner: Playlist from January 12, 2010 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Listener comments!

  3:08pm Cecile:

Groovin' on the groove, but just lurking the rest of this aft...
  3:12pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

trying hard to pay attention but for some reason these people want me to WORK today.
  3:13pm boil:

Speaking of sacred looping, do you have any live Hassan Hakmoun?
  3:18pm BSI:

nice one. That record Hakmoun did with Don Cherry was a thing of beauty.
  3:24pm boil:

Thanks for the tip, BSI. Meanwhile, this wiggly stuff is fantastic.
  3:25pm dylan:

just got this one last night, totally engrossing
  3:27pm Cecile:

eczema = ex-ema
  3:27pm BSI:

Boil: it's "Gift of the Gnawa" by Hakmoun/Cherry/Rudolph. Totally worth it for the track "Ma'bud Allah" alone. It could've gone for an hour without changes, and I'd love it. Great trance/chant stuff.
  3:42pm Cecile:

My favorite Urinals song!
  3:43pm dc pat:

where would we be without the Urinals?
  3:45pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

in the stalls?

  3:57pm TC:

Or maybe "She had his drug/she had his drug/she had his drug"?
  3:57pm J-Mar:

It's rock shed! It's rock shed! It's rock shed!
  3:58pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

how come every possible interpretation comes back to drugs?
  3:59pm boil:

  4:21pm TC:

  4:22pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

found this on Raymilland...
...reunion show for Raymilland. They are a legendary St. Louis post punk band that has not played live since 1981. Raymilland released one 7" on Praxis (An art/music magazine from Chicago) in 1980 and had a song on the first Sub Pop compilation cassette in 1981. All four original members will grace the stage and play loads of material from their about to be released retrospective. The archival release "Recordings '79-'81" will be available at this show on CD or as a limited LP/CD package! The release will be avaialble in stores and for mailorder as of January 1st.
  4:24pm TC:

What's the link for the remix thing, that sounds incredible.
  4:24pm C:

  4:29pm TC:

  4:30pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

Carmichael, now switch to the url for the 80s remix!!
  4:48pm Cecile:

Philippe Petit? Wasn't he the guy who walked a tightrope between the spires of Chartres Cathedral in the 70s?
  4:49pm Mark:

  5:18pm boil:

Frontera. Is that a play on Pantera? Great great stuff.
  5:19pm Cecile:

Can you squeeze The Reigning Sound's Straight Shooter in there?
  5:21pm Cecile:

Nah, it's just Spanish for frontier. Pantera is Spanish for panther.
  5:28pm Carmichael:

Cecile, you really have your Spanish down today. You could live in California.
  5:31pm fred:

got any Leather Uppers for the mix? sugar Sandwich?

Awesome show, Youz!
  5:36pm Cecile:

I took a bunch of years of it, and remember very little. Until today.

It's Sunday and this set is still warping minds and rocking bodies. All hail the Brian Turner hyperdrive!
  7:12pm Zach In Philly:

Why don't I own "Mice and Rats in the Loft" yet? It reminds me of such good times. This whole show was splendid. That "Fred Bigot vs. Mark Knopfler" ditty keeps going through my head. Pretty brilliant. And "Disco Junkie" -- how can ya go wrong? Sorry for the late reply. Gonna try-n-reply more sooner, da kine~
