A jaunty tune to start the show!
  12:04pm

  12:06pm
Scott:

Hi Carmichael - yep! Hi Steven - nope!
  12:08pm
BSI:

  12:13pm
Scott:

  12:19pm

  12:20pm
BSI:

aaaah!
Better 'n COMTREX!
I miss those viking kittens...
  12:20pm
anony moose:

oh god, what does he want to put in me?
  12:26pm
dc pat:

Is "Gay Bar" the greatest song ever written?
  12:28pm
Carmichael:

Crap, I step out for some pie and I miss Gay Bar! Is that the song with the video featuring Blair and W.?
  12:28pm
BSI:

yes, dc pat.
yes it is.
  12:35pm
dc pat:

thought so..
  12:39pm
Art Smass:

Hi Scott!
Got anything for crab lice?
  12:42pm
Scott:

Hi Art Smass! Do I?! How 'bout a funked up shuffle?
  12:45pm
dc pat:

that A is out of tune
  12:45pm
Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

One crab lice to the other: "Let's head for zee hills!"
  12:45pm
Art Smass:

Thanks Scott!

I can feel it working!
  12:46pm
Carmichael:

Sounds like Aynsley Dunbar back there.
  12:47pm
dc pat:

ok, how about something for in-grown toenails?
  12:48pm
Taylor:

As long as you're taking requests...CLEAN YOUR ROOM YOUNG MAN! Also, Greenwich Village's own Devil's Anvil (1967) had "Hard Rock from the Middle East" reissued just last week. "Selim Alai" smokes.
  12:49pm
Mr. Microphone:

Hey good lookin', we'll be back to pick you up in a minute!
  12:50pm
Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

What's that I hear?
  12:50pm
dc pat:

"later" not " in a minute", sheesh!
  12:51pm
Ike:

Hooray, I got my swag! I would have done the swag dance except that it was too humid, so I got confused and walked in circles instead. Hey, great show Scott. That Bernard Szajner was far out, man.
  12:51pm
Calgon lady:

Ancient Chinese secret, huh Mr. Lee??
  12:52pm
dc pat:

do you all realize if Bunny Tarquinio married Eddie Rabbit, her name would be Bunny Rabbit?
  12:53pm
Carmichael:

Has there ever been a soundtrack to that song-poem documentary "Off the Charts"? This cheesy stuff is reminding me of that song about kung fu bicycles and Priscilla Presley.
  12:54pm
Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

Eddie Rabbit's dead. The right-wing conspiracy would never stand for marrying a dead guy. BTW, nice name check with Bunny Tarquinio.
  12:58pm
dc pat:

that Mr. Microphone reference brought back a lot of memories. Glad some one else remembers. What commercial was that? Tide?
  12:59pm
Gloria:

Automobile Club of America, did you have to be THAT good?
  1:00pm
Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYEXBTlWf_4
  1:01pm
Carmichael:

No, that was actually a K-Tel style commercial for a microphone that broadcasted in the low FM range. I just remember that 70s dweeb leaning out of a convertible and yelling at a car full of surprised, giggling cuties.
  1:03pm
Mrs. Lee:

Yeah, I know that one--I was talking about Bunny Tarquinio, I think she was on a Tide commercial
  1:04pm
Carmichael:

Boy, nice catch Dum Dum! Is that black guy stereotyped or what?!?
  1:05pm
Rob W:

Silly me Scott - I never realized until just this moment where Negativland got their name from. To their credit - since they began their mischief well before Krautrock really was on the radar over here...
  1:05pm
raga:

howdy, doody!
  1:05pm
Art Smass:

He looks like he's doing the Funked-Up Shuffle.

DAMN carm, you're one step ahead of me. Don't think it's the same Bunny Tarquinio though...
  1:11pm
dc pat:

cracking up..I posted as Mrs. Lee above. Don't know how that happened!...
  1:11pm
Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

scroll down to the 914Driver post. He/She remembers Bunny.

  1:15pm
Chris:

Actually the Weddoes are still a pretty good live band, though with Peter Slowoka they were truly amazing.
  1:15pm
Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

Scott, with all due respect, you are no Bobby McFerrin.
  1:15pm
Carmichael:

How many Bunny Tarquinios can there be?
  1:17pm
Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

In Mexico, Tarquinios is as common a last name as is Smith in the U.S.
  1:17pm
dc pat:

yeah really, but I think the one in your article is a man, yes a man, Carm. DDGuy, that's the one...
  1:18pm
jex:

historical bed music!
  1:20pm
Carmichael:

Nah Pat, She's married to George and they're in real estate. I just read her Dad's obit.

In about 2 minutes, I found out about most of her life ....
  1:22pm
Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

Scott song-checks The Other One.
  1:23pm
Paul B...:

Scott,
that Neu base line is also the base line from the introduction to the Joy Division song 'No Love Lost' (1978?) I can't say off hand who came up with it first. Also thanks for the Wedding Present. I love that song -- love Niagra too. Saw them once, twice maybe, at the old 9:30 club (W.DC). I always tell people they were the loudest band I ever saw play, with the exception of a certain Husker Du/ Negative Approach show.
  1:23pm
BSI:

back with a big box of chocolate bunny tarquinios.
it's a toilet outside, in case y'all were wondering.
  1:25pm
Scott:

>> "Scott, with all due respect, you are no Bobby McFerrin. "
WHOAH! You take that back, man!
  1:26pm
Carmichael:

I stood next to a stage speaker during a Steppenwolf concert. An F-4 isn't that loud.
  1:27pm
dc pat:

Carm, oh, I thought I saw a reference to Bunny being a him.

Loudest show: easily the Cynics at Electric Banana in PGH.
  1:28pm
Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

Scott - Just joshin'. LOL. You actually are Bobby McFerrin.
  1:28pm
Chris:

Mogwai: anyone without earplugs was standing as far from the stage as possible. Though I lost hearing in one ear after a Weedeater set for a short time.
  1:29pm
Scott:

Thank you Dum Dum, that's what I'm talking about.
  1:30pm
Carmichael:

That McFerrin track on Rob Wasserman's Duets CD is something to behold. Alluring, hypnotic and just plain odd.
  1:32pm
Scott:

OK Carmichael, we need to stop this now
  1:33pm
BSI:

Loudest show?
I didn't get a precise measurement but Merzbow at the DC Arts Center (circa 1989) would have to be a contender.
  1:34pm
Carmichael:

He he .... I was in a zone there for a moment.
  1:37pm
BSI:

splendid mix, this.
  1:39pm
dc pat:

what's the softest show you've ever seen? Mine was Cat Power at Black Cat back when she was still drunk. It was excruciating, couldn't hear her, she kept turning around--after a while people just started talking, drowned her out...
  1:41pm
Scott:

Easily a summertime Jonathan Richman show at Maxwell's where he demanded they turn off the AC because he wasn't gonna turn up his guitar.
  1:43pm
Chris:

Good one. Nmperign was the quietest by far for me. The audience was seated directly in front of the musicians and leaning in to about a foot away to hear them. It was great, actually.
  1:44pm
Carmichael:

Larry Carlton. He wanted to cha-cha-cha and mingle with the audience. It was more like a fiddler working the restaurant floor. Impersonal, inaudible, uncomfortable.
  1:50pm
Taylor:

Speaking of Donovan, any idea who's singing this? http://www.footnoteconspiracy.com/rhh-cues/1970-03-15%20KPPC%20Hurdy%20Gurdy%20Man.mp3
  1:52pm
Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

Softest Show - Some David Bromberg gig in a club whose name I forget on Commonwealth Avenue in Boston in the late 1980s. There was a complete power failure during the first song. They lit candles and he and his band played the entire show without amplification. It was one of the better shows of his I have seen.
  1:53pm
Carmichael:

Sounds like Richie Havens, but I'm not certain.
  1:55pm
erika:

hi, i think i'm obsessed with yr show. keep it up!
  2:00pm
-or droneflyshards:

back w 2 cents -WHO,spectrum,philly...not th best show,as KeithMoon had recently died...in fact-he wasn't even there, but the loudest...quietest,prob Orion Dommisse.
  2:02pm
boris:

just tuned in.damn this set looks good, def. gotta archive it up quickk!
  2:04pm
Carmichael:

OK Taylor, if it isn't Richie Havens, then it's Eric Mercury. But I can't find a sample to prove it.
  2:04pm
Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

Loudest - The Clash in Hamilton, NY.
  2:05pm
Taylor:

Thanks Carmichael. Feel free to preview anything else in directory http://www.footnoteconspiracy.com/rhh-cues which is full of interesting mystery records played by the Firesign Theatre during their show The Radio Hour Hour in 1970.
  2:05pm
dc pat:

-or dronefylshards, was that Who show right after the "tramplings" in Cincy? If so, I was there
  2:06pm
boris:

@bsi, merzbow in dc? damn
  2:10pm
Taylor:

Scott, FYI this Rita Pavone tune was used recently as the soundtrack to the animated short "Mr. Schwartz, Mr. Hazen, & Mr. Horlocker". http://www.animationshow.com/MrSchwartzMrHazenMrHorlocker
  2:10pm
dragonfryshards:

(rude am i)Hi Scott! -(checed in early as "-") ...'Love yer show..(actually,the Who was one of my first concrts-painfullyloud, but mabe i jut wasn't used to that kind of assault,yet...Clash,HuskerDu--all lou...as are bands where i ive, now.)
  2:12pm
dc pat:

the specrum Who show was one of my first shows too. Others were Kinks shows.
  2:15pm
BSI:

Boris: it was a stunner. Merzbow & Due Process at the DCAC, little intimate gallery space for a noise gig...
  2:17pm
dragonflyshards:

(i've given up correcting for this crappykeyboar...sorry)---dc pat -i'm ignorant& curious"tramplings"? -anyway,twas the first Who tour,AD
  2:19pm
dc pat:

tramplings = when there was a mad rush for general seating in Cincinnati and a bunch of people got trampled to death. Not sure if that was the first tour after Moonie bit it, god rest his soul...
  2:22pm
Keith Moon:

Not to worry dear boy, plenty of Mandrex here in Drummer's Heaven.
  2:25pm
Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

Concert Where the Sound Was Just Right: Mel Torme at Blues Alley in Washington DC in the mid 1980s. Seriously.
  2:25pm
Parq:

I hated Journey back in the day. A show in Boston may not have been the loudest ever, but it was the least justifiably loud show I ever saw. The show I most vividly remember being loud - again, probably not the decibel-for-decibel loudest, but the one where the loudness had the most impact on me - was Elvis C and the Atrracs, Boston Paradise, first US tour, 1977.
  2:29pm
Scott:

I can't remember shit anymore, so my "best-sounding" show goes back about 2 months: Spiritualized at Primavera sound fest in Barca -- unbelievable mix job, and outdoors taboot. Man, i hope J Spaceman lets us b'cast that fucker!
  2:29pm
draonflyshrds:

dc -duh was thinking"openning band?how do i not know of them!" yes,i remember tramplings,&methinks i went earlier, for i dont remember being concerned about possibly dying at a concert!
  2:31pm
Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

The Boston Paradise. Thank you. That is where I saw the Bromberg show.
  2:32pm
dc pat:

ah yeah, you'd probably remember that because we were definitely worried about getting walked on...
  2:32pm
Parq:

Scott, how loud was that two-guitar duo at Primavera that plays throbbing soundscapes while wearing black robes? (Blanking on the name - Sun-something-or other?)
  2:35pm
Dominick:

Loudest for me was Iggy & The Stooges at Jones Beach (2 years ago?)
It felt like the air molecules were exploding in my ears. Listened to much of the set behind the seating area
  2:35pm
Taylor:

SunO))))?... Styx at the Boise State Pavilion in August 1983, I remember being very very loud, but I was only eleven at the time
  2:36pm
Scott:

Sunn 0))) was smokin' (literally) and stellar at PSF. vid here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/33075116@N02/sets/72157618925002713/
  2:36pm
dragonfleeshards:

i can imagine that Elvis show...that clean git bass drum sound-LOUD- the first 2 Costello albums...i'm envious.
  2:39pm
randy in NC:

Loudest show for me, PIL at this place in Sheepshead Bay called the Brooklyn Zoo. I think my ears are still ringing.
  2:41pm
dc pat:

hey dragonflyshards -- I think the Who only played 2 gigs at the spectrum after KM died and both were in December '79 according to some Who live show DB. So we may both have been at the same show. DId they show a clip from Quadrophenia (film)?
  2:44pm
Jonathan Steinke:

Hmmm...Decapitated Hed. I wonder if they...er, modified their name after a certain famous Australian group that used a lot of loops?
  2:45pm
Marshall Stacks:

It's a tie between Dinosaur Jr. somewhere in SF ca. 1989 or 90, and Electric Hot Tuna at the Beacon ca. 1977.

Dino Jr. was so loud it was impossible to tell the songs apart or know what they were playing. My GF of the time told me this was part of their "genius."

I credit both bands with laying the foundation for my incipient tinnitus.
  2:48pm
Scott:

You're onto something Jonathan - and no, the name isn't even modified. Same <sic> name, diff band, outta Baldymore.
  2:49pm
#225:

Damn how do these guys (Axemen) have time to record records in between being nearly crushed to death by falling logs on Discovery?
  2:49pm
Parq:

Sunn 0))), that's it. I remember listening to the broadcast on a tabletop radio, thinking "Jesus, this must be loud in person."
  2:51pm
J-Mar:

Wow, I haven't heard this Mekons track in 15 years maybe. Sounds effing great!
  2:53pm
Jonathan Steinke:

Thank you for playing them, by the way!

Ya know, I kinda thought their M.O. was a little "copy-catted" from Ellard and Co.!
  2:56pm
Scott:

Or crashing their cars into govt buildings!
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/851629/bullied-taxman-drives-car-through-workplace
  2:58pm
GP:

Mekons..cool. I just found a CD of theirs that I forgot I had had...been playing it in the car for two days straight now.

Loudest show? North Mississippi All Stars in a venue for about 150 people but they had their sound at stadium level..+ the band members were flirting with my girlfriend.
