  10:04am Devin:

It's probably a wise choice to don some trousers until cocktail hour. At least thats my plan.
  10:06am annie:

hhmmmm, cocktails....
  10:06am dragonflyshards:

(dancing in the kitchen)
  10:10am annie:

  10:11am Feral Cat:

Love this song...yip yip!!!
  10:13am still b/p:

(Imagining dancing to this in beachside thatch-shade during a 120 day vacation.)
  10:14am Cecile:

Isa cool.
that's the name of my favorite Enslaved album. Viking dog.
aw, you can talk gardening. Doug is all about the nurturing.
  10:14am dragonflyshards:

it's early for me...i've friends who think i'm a wuss for rarely drinking B4 7pm...but i dont chase my whiskey,like they do!..(ps Annie--sorry...it's a round room)
  10:15am Isa:

Woof
  10:15am annie:

cecile, it makes me happy to know i pleased the viking soul within you, and dragon, any time after 10 is fine, i call it "brunch"
  10:17am Feral Cat:

Meowza
  10:17am dragonflyshards:

  10:19am dragonflshards:

  10:25am still b/p:

That set was outSTANDING.
  10:26am Cecile:

  10:27am annie:

doug, a man after my own heart... what would we do without it, eh?
  10:27am <s>:

<s>o?
  10:28am Devin:

Thanks for playing some "African, afro-pop" for us... I remember the first time I heard King Sunny Ade's Juju music...
  10:28am Cecile:

bwah!
  10:28am Cecile:

Devin, I agree.
I saw King Sunny in '87. What a party!
  10:29am New Name:

Can I haz comment? LOL

Great show so far!
  10:29am chris:

hey doug, enjoying tha show...thanks for the brazda brothers!
  10:29am annie:

is afro-pop worldwide still on the air or did he ruin himself with popularity?
  10:32am Devin:

Cecile - I'll bet that was somethin' else!!
  10:32am dragonfryshards:

Doug,me too...when i'm home, i have trouble falling asleep w.out music....Cecile -did you see K Sunny Ade at "the pier" in NY?
  10:32am Cecile:

I did not know these two played together!
Where can I find that record!
I love pre-sap Gato
  10:33am Cecile:

No, at the State Theatre in Ann Arbor.
  10:34am LOL Gato:

Thanks for the spin!
  10:34am Cecile:

Devin, it was awesome.
Everyone was dancing, and all the Nigerians would go onstage and put dollar bills on Sunny's forehead. I guess that's a sign there that he's hitting it out of the park.
  10:36am Devin:

C - What ?! That's wild...
  10:37am dragonflyshards:

-just curious..i dont recall the exact year i saw them(him)...they did that dollar bill thing at Ebinezer Obey show, too.
  10:39am Cecile:

Yep. The more bills they put on your forehead, the better your'e doing. He probably walked out of there with a suitcase of cash. Well earned.
  10:40am Cecile:

dragon, I would love to see Obey. He is damn good.
  10:40am Carmichael:

Hi Doug and boarders. Got here just in time for the African set.
  10:40am Cecile:

I need this Dollar Brand/Johnny Dyani too
  10:41am William Twotits:

Should I go with a black ipod or a silver ipod, crew?
  10:42am Carmichael:

IMHO, black hides the greasy fingerprints better.
  10:43am dragonflyshards:

'twas good.-small room on rutgers campus...but i still like Ade' better(no offense to Mr O)
  10:43am William Twotits:

Then black it will be. That is where I was leaning, but the classic silver has its charm too and will remind me of the one I am replacing.
  10:44am wigg:

go with the truffle shuffle
  10:44am Devin:

My first intro to african music was from professor / priest Gideon Alorwoyie at UNT here in Denton...regarded as one of Ghana's foremost virtuosos of traditional music and dance. He's also high priest of the Yewe cult.... Interesting cat.
  10:46am Carmichael:

I went to a weekend World Music Festival and saw The Mighty Sparrow. Was completely blown away and confused. I needed all the African genres after that, and pronto.
  10:49am Cecile:

Can you get pink, Wiliam? I like pink.
  10:49am dragonflyshards:

whew!Mighty Sparrow's mighty.
  10:50am Cecile:

Devin, to me Ade has the better tunes, but Obey has the killer grooves. hard to choose.
  10:50am dragonflyshards:

carnation pink,w a shiny white fringe.
  10:50am William Twotits:

Sadly not. I am getting the ipod classic for more space. With the amount of albums in my collection it would be a waste to get anything less.
  10:51am William Twotits:

But I might be tempted to put it in a hot pink protective case, if available.
  10:52am Cecile:

Ah, true.

There are many cute hot pink cases out there. This time I did a change up from the pink for mine, and got black rubber with a red tiger stripe pattern.
  10:53am Devin:

C - Indeed...
  10:55am Gjorgji:

the last set is a bliss. amazing
  10:55am Pearly Sweets:

That was quite a Steven Bernstein moment there.
  10:55am dragonfryshards:

luckily,we dont have to choose favorites...but i pull out the"Ju Ju Music"album when i want to take a little trip
  10:55am north guinea hills:

i turn on the playlist, and see all of the abdullah ibrahim tunes listed, and i was afraid he had died. thank god!
  10:58am Drummer Some:

NGH,
I just knew someone would reach that conclusion. Sorry for the jolt. Ibrahim will be 75 yrs young in October!
  11:00am Carmichael:

I just noticed that Baaba Maal will be playing nearby in the fall. A must see, so I'm going.
  11:03am dragonfshards:

i like that you,Doug, play sets occupied by much of one artist,sometimes...some radio people say that's bad,somehow...i think you're captain of a groove, and thats how i like it....let me sink in.
  11:05am Travis:

Doug ~ Did you know that Ibrahim's daughter is hip-hop artist, Jean Grae, who has been featured on a couple of Herbaliser (UK) albums
  11:07am Cecile:

I did not know that!
Wow, there are so many jazz artists who have rapper sons/daughters
  11:11am Carmichael:

Strangely, I would enjoy some yodeling right about now.
  11:14am north guinea hills:

the only jean grae i have is on a mr. liff album. i have't paid attention to the herbaliser in ages.
  11:15am dragonshyflards:

Not strange!..i Love good yodels...or,maybe Don Walser's version of"long black veil"(live on FMU)
  11:15am Drummer Some:

Trumpeter Olu Dara's son is Nas.
  11:19am Satisfied Customer.:

Absolutely.
  11:21am Carmichael:

The guy from Sons of the Pioneers is who I was thinking about. Is that Ranger Doug, or do I have my yodelers mixed up?
  11:23am chris:

Hey Doug, great show. You listened to John Funke yet?
  11:23am Roy Pea:

Thanks for this cheerful country set, Doug! Like you, I am looking for work, and this is really boosting my spirits. After a tough week, I needed it.
  11:28am fishmonkeystew:

I love happy death songs!
  11:30am Travis:

Yo Charmichael -- Actually Ranger Doug is a contemporary yodeler. He heads up Riders in the Sky -- kind of a cowboy novelty group.
  11:31am Sister Hairy Hymen:

I must say that your Blog is one of best kept secrets of the INTERNET
  11:32am Sister Hairy:

And your show is damn good too.
  11:37am chris:

You takin' requests Doug? how bout some Snoooks?
  11:37am Carmichael:

Thanks, Travis. I knew I had a brain bubble there.
  11:40am El Thatchmo...:

Me too....
  11:48am Cecile:

I think Solomon should be in the Country Hall of Fame. I'm serious.
  11:49am Drummer Some:

No time for requests, Chris, though I love Snooks, as you surely know...
  11:51am chris:

I do know that Doug. It was a weird synchronicity for me because I heard you play him right after I heard about him for the first time a few months ago and then he died like the next week! The last time you played one of his tracks the song blew me away.
  11:54am Carmichael:

This is so Temptations-ey ....
11:56am ALF of Hip Hop Slam:

Doug,
Are most of the stuff you play on your show only on CD?
  11:57am PMD:

hmmm... x-rated soul/funk
  11:58am Carmichael:

Bobby Marchan was a successful female impersonator for many years in New Orleans.
