A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

fishmonkeystew:

Good morning, Trouble, Annie, SmokinJ, and Listener Mark!

That Nina Simone piece was mighty tasty.
  9:07am
trouble:

good morning all! nina simone's birthday was saturday, so you'll be hearing some more nina this a.m.
  9:10am
wha?:

re: nina YAY!
So when I'm not listening to WFMU and am trying to actually get work done, Groove Salad is usually on. this schnauss piece is in heavy rotation there. so i was confused at first what was playing through itunes.
  9:11am
Adrian in London:

Morning/Afternoon. (until I have to go to the supermarket, that is).
  9:12am
Parq:

Yes, Nina's reading of the Cohen tune is tremendous. Looking forward to whatever of her work Miss T has in her carpetbag this morning.
  9:20am

  9:32am
Ike:

SD, did you put that bad apostrophe in the word "yous" just to rile me up? How sweet. Thanks. But there is no cure for getting stupid sick. Not the stupid part anyway, but then you've always had that! HA! Just kidding, you know I love you. Sort of. Well, not really. Actually, not at all. ;>
  9:35am
hazmania:

Avengers!
  9:36am
Liz B.:

A guy pal of mine went to see Tom Jones last night! He said that 8 pairs of panties and 2 bras were tossed onstage during "She's a Lady."
  9:36am
stingy d:

ike i love you. but you can't be my english professor. i'm a high school drop out - what do you expect?
  9:36am
sebastian:

hi adrian. no, i haven't. actually i can't quite tell my brownshirts from my guayaberas.
  9:39am
stingy d:

and i'm writing a book; and everything. but and your pet peeve's
  9:39am
listener mark:

I was raised in Lyndhurst,NJ. Leave the gun, take the cannoli.
  9:42am
sebastian:

but i hear it's a fine endeavor, with marilyn monroe original dresses and all or am i being delirious? i think elijah wood is involved in it somehow.
  9:45am
annie:

trouble, any way to get some of her fine piano work?
  9:47am
Ike:

Ah, SD, your 9:36 comment was probably the most coherent thing you've typed all month, but then you go and say something totally incomprehensible. It wouldn't be the same without you around here. Which is to say, it would be better. HA! But if you're writing a book, then at least you're going to give an editor thousands (or millions) of hours of employment!
  9:48am
listener mark:

the kinks?
  9:49am
annie:

i helped a friend edit her book, she told me not to change aything at all.. her writing style was very odd, hard not to comment.
  9:49am
Greg:

I could have sworn this was Super Furry Animals
  9:50am
stingy d:

ok, i'll never speak again. ike wins.
  9:51am
listener mark:

play nice children
  9:51am
sugarwolf:

how do you edit w/o changing anything??
  9:52am
annie:

i guess she mostly wanted a critique in the long run.
  9:55am
listener mark:

annie, I work in a used book store. What is her genre? Fiction or non-fiction?
  9:56am
annie:

it was a random collection of thoughts and events from her life.
  9:59am
annie:

i told her the best way to convey her story was through spoken word, which is her talent.
  9:59am
Pat in Philadelphia:

Oh Trouble you know the way to my heart! Anything off Paris 1919 will do!
  10:00am
listener mark:

Oh, we get those, part inspirational, part auto biographical, self-help
  10:08am
annie:

she has a great outlet in youtube. i have many friends who tell a better story than write it.
  10:11am
listener mark:

trouble, don't you have minions there at the radio station? flying monkeys or oompa loompas?
  10:12am
Parq:

Annie: "a random collection of thoughts and events from her life" sounds exactly like the sort of thing I would expect from someone who wants an editor who doesn't do any editing. My wife was an editor for 15 years and put up with this sort of thing all the time. Your friend is going to make some vanity press owner very happy.

Miss T: Gal Costa singing something called "divino, maravilhoso" sounds like it would be autobiographical, yeh?
  10:13am
Cecile:

hola, everyone!
get better stingy!
  10:14am
Pat in Philadelphia:

Did everybody hear about the death Pylon guitarist Randy Bewley?
http://idolator.com/5160620/randy-bewley-rip
That's very sad. I know it goes against the welsh theme but any chance of hearing some Pylon? Something from Gyrate?
  10:15am
annie:

parq, she has finally exhausted her attempts. she has taken up the cello!
  10:15am
Cecile:

damn I missed John Cale

this Tom Jones song is damn strange.

Pat, I just heard that, too. I am gutted. I loved and still loved Pylon so much.
  10:16am
annie:

which is actually far more cathartic for her.
  10:16am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Welsh theme? Where's Bronwyn C. at?
  10:16am
Garth:

This song is BLOWING MY MIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10:17am
Cecile:

you could play some Estron and I wouldn't be upset. Beee-yoo-tiful Welsh trancy stuff.
  10:18am
Bad Ronald:

How about more John Cale?
  10:19am
Parq:

Sad news. I saw Pylon on a double bill with the Method Actors (an Athens two-fer) at Trax in 1980 -- anyone else remember that West 72nd Street venue? I followed Pylon intermittently ever since. Thoughts going out to his loved ones.
  10:19am
texas scott:

morning,Trouble and commenteers.
marathon time is new to me.how can I share the love with 50 bucks and 4 fave shows?
anybody?
  10:20am
bertozzi:

Hi Trouble! Great show as always. For the theme: Badfinger (Swansea) and The Alarm (Rhyl)
  10:22am
Cecile:

I don't know, texas scott.
I was going to spread out my cash, but ended up buying Station Manager Ken yesterday.
  10:23am
annie:

i only have 25 bucks to spend....
  10:23am
?:

There's a livejournal community called "cranky editors/editors unleashed " for Ike and the like. Stingy could start a new one -- "hashtalkers/fragmentality." I don't 'spect you'll actually mutify y'self, stingy, but don't be forced into text-tongue time-out. Keep representin' the nongeneric component of the comment blood, while posters like me can only strike up the bland.
  10:24am
kent:

scott, donate 12.50 during each one of your favorite shows. you'll be able to collect premiums on your total donation of $50. if you have more detailed questions, i think joe mcgasko is the person to email about that. he is nice. he will help you. get ready to have super fun during the marathon!
  10:25am
texas scott:

Cecile, how much did Ken put you back?
thanks,kent!
  10:27am
annie:

anyone know if the "membership chat" is going to be donation motivated?
  10:27am
Cecile:

it would have been $180, but I made it a mouse pledge just coz.
  10:28am
Cecile:

I budget for 'fmu annually.
  10:28am
texas scott:

nice!
on behalf of poor listeners,we thank you,Cecile!
  10:29am
trouble:

thanks for all your welsh suggestions! i should have asked for them last week, because i am trapped in the tower of the 4th floor studio and the record library is 2 floors away. no running for spontaneous picks this week. I actually just saw a mention of welsh week in time out and thought i would just run with it...
  10:29am
Christy:

oh, I just sent you an email--I was looking for this link. got any Ana Gabriel? the Mariachi one? La Reina Canta A Mexico...
  10:31am
sugarwolf:

i'm making my pledge tonight... but what to adopt??? oh, such problems...
  10:32am
sugarwolf:

i would have suggested the teen anthems 'welsh bands sucks'
  10:33am
Christy:

oh, OK, I see your post, no requests today...maybe another day then!
  10:34am
still b/p:

Would Tom Jones get it if puppets were tossed onstage along with panties?
  10:35am
sugarwolf:

maybe if they were puppets in panties
  10:35am
north guinea hills:

one of my favorite john tchicai releases
  10:37am
Ike:

Kent, I might be wrong, but TX Scott might need a min. $15 per pledge this year to get in drawings for bonus CD prizes, i.e. the rotating selection of prizes that are "on the block" at any given time. (Or is it still $10?) But TX Scott, if you don't care about those prize drawings, then $12.50 per show would work.

In any case, any number of pledges totaling $50 will definitely get you a T-shirt.
  10:37am
marathon veteran:

Cecile, if you're making a mouse pledge, you'll get something like 7 marathon premiums, so you can show your love to individual dee jays that way. Annie, if by the membership chat you mean these comments, there's usually a mix of pledge-related comments and non. Scott, can you possibly make it $75? Then you'd get a tee shirt *and* a dee jay marathon premium. and they are all so swell that you'll agonize over which one to pick. Plus, at $12.50 per, you could show your love to a half dozen favorites. Everybody, check out the swag selection - so much nifty stuff that you can't afford not to pledge.
  10:37am
GP:

Morning Trouble, and everyone.
Liz B., I think Tom J has shills in the audience with panty and bra launchers much like those guys at sporting events that launch t-shirts into the crowd.
  10:39am
Parq:

Actually, GP, I was gonna say that Tom is slipping if he garnered only five of what the Brits call knickers in a show.
  10:42am
Lucielle:

Ah, this is like the most perfect song ever.
  10:42am
still b/p:

A gal who can't quite get up the nerve to toss 'em is a knickerbalker.
  10:42am
GP:

True Parq...he probably has several rooms or even an entire house wallpapered with them by now.
  10:42am
kent:

ike, i kind of hope you're right about that $15 minimum for prize drawings. i hate it when something big/heavy (higher shipping costs) like a box set goes to a $10 pledger. that means the station loses money on that one.
  10:47am
Pat in Philadelphia:

Thanks for pointing me to khmerrocks.com Trouble! That stuff is fantastic!!
  10:48am
Cecile:

Yes, Mar-Vet, I showered my favorite DJs with premium love.

bwah.
  10:50am
annie:

mar vet: there was chatter about expanding the listener involvement in the form of forums and such and cetera.. not sure if that is s till in the works.
  10:50am
texas scott:

is there a 15 buck minimum?
4 shows,60 bucks and a t-shirt.
then I 'll be on my merry way.
thanks for everyone's input!
  10:52am
Cecile:

still b/p - dead. dead here.
  10:52am
Ike:

Kent, true, but either way, many DJs make it a special higher-than-usual min. for a box set or heavy item drawing. And a lot of the $10 folks are multiple pledgers, some even with Mouse prize accts.

That John Tchai track was great. And that was Paul Weller? Really? Wow, I've never loved a Paul Weller song that much.
  10:56am
north guinea hills:

i believe juana molina is playing tomorrow at that red fish place....
  10:57am
still b/p:

No, Cecile...dead?
Need to go shop at Laz 'R Us?
  10:59am
Cecile:

stop eeeeeet.
  11:01am
mar vet:

Scott, *fifteen* dollars more and you get a premium CD! You won't be sorry!
  11:03am
ellen from museum:

YES! girls rock! more girls on album pleaazzeeeee
  11:04am
Cecile:

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!
  11:08am
GP:

Now if we could only get Trouble to speak Welsh..now that would be something I tell ya.
  11:12am
texas scott:

okay,mar vet...
75 bucks,5 shows,a t-shirt and cd?
then i'll be on my merry way??
gotta have the shirt to advertise WFMU...
  11:13am
trouble:

indeed it would be something! i would love to speak all the languages of the fab songs i play, or at least be able to correctly pronounce them, with out giggling...
  11:15am
Parq:

Love me some Peggy Lee's "Hey There". According to Brave Combo, this was originally a show tune.
  11:16am
DeemerDave:

We like the giggling.
  11:17am
GP:

I'm with fellow Texan Scott..need the T-short to spread the good word, plus some stickers...that'll do..that'll do.

Trouble, I found that the BBC has some fantastic online language courses ( Including Welsh) but alas with me right now it is just one of those things on my to-do list that may or may not get done....and yes giggling is perfectly lovely.
  11:19am
sugarwolf:

parq, it was from the pajama game... and was a duet of john raitt singing with himself on a dictaphone
  11:19am
texas scott:

"HEY THERE" was from a show called 'THE PAJAMA GAME' Parq
  11:19am
still b/p:

Near enough to the stage for Nina live or Peggy when she was...and I'd toss my jock, socks, contacts and eye teeth.

Show = "Pajama Game".
  11:20am
still b/p:

Triple 11:19 jinx!
  11:23am

Thx guys - always wondered what kind of a story line would lead into that song. Next question - who's the female vox on this Cash number?
  11:23am
PMD:

Cecile, I just saw you bought Ken. Darn, I was thinking of it too. Please give him a more interesting name. I'll be doing the monthly credit card thing - at least it won't feel as bad as the big hunk o' cash
