Listener comments!

  11:09pm
Laurie:

Hiiiiii efd
  11:11pm
efd:

hi PowerCommenter Laurie!
  11:12pm
Sybil:

That song by the Out was just more perfect evidence for the Big Bang Therory of Tuesday nights!
  11:16pm
Brian:

I've never stayed on to listen to you after the Best Show, but this is great stuff! I'm scrambling around the internet trying to track down information on The Out and that "Unpop" compilation. You just got a new fan Evan.
  11:17pm
miss buxley:

hiya evan,,efd could you be real sweet and play some SABRINA this week,,thanks ever sooooo much,,lots of hugs & kisses =)=)=) ROCK ON evan!!!
  11:19pm
Swami:

Do the Dukes hearken back to the era of the original Mersey-ish sound as they sound or are they more along the lines of latter day revivalists The Mosquitoes? Lovin' this trashy Four Sticks stuff too. Thanks boss.
  11:21pm
Laurie:

This is a great Split Enz cover!
  11:22pm
john:

Evan, super cool cover version here of a song that was a rare exception to an hideously new-music unfriendly scene my freshman year.
  11:24pm
efd:

Laurie & John, thanks for making me feel better about that total hail-mary track that i was actually mad at myself for playing.
Swami, the Dukes are actually from the 60s as far as I know; Four Slicks are current (again, afaik)
  11:25pm
toni d.:

well anyway evan,,U ROCK!!!!!!!!! love ya=)=)=)
  11:26pm
efd:

and Brian, thanks for sticking around.
Hi Toni/Miss B... I think your Sabrina request will be in vain yet again.
  11:27pm
john:

Well, imagine a bunch of drunken idiots in central connecticut in 1980 screaming "I don't know why sometimes I get mindless" and you'll know there are a lot of folk with much better things to be mad at themselves about...
  11:32pm
toni d.:

evan--a tuesday nite w'o me is like nothin,,i'm the LIFE of the party,,rite efd???
  11:36pm
john:

it's ok, it really sounds like you found your release point again!
  11:37pm
Swami:

Sometimes they take LSD in the bullpen and pitch no hitters. Dock Ellis! I never believed that by the way. His description of his trip was unconvincing.
  11:39pm
Laurie:

EFD, did you just say "bicurious"??

I don't think you know me very well. I'm bi-sure-ious. I guess. Idk.
  11:41pm
john:

Ellis' teammates have expressed a degree of belief in his story. Substances were not unknown to the '70s Pirates. Won two Series, too. Ellis, who thought he had a day off, found out that he was slated to pitch the first game of a double-header after doing the hit of acid, and managed to walk eight and hit a batter while throwing that no-no, which also argues for a somewhat altered state...
  11:44pm
Sybil:

Ah, John, now you've got me nostalgic for Bill "Spaceman" Lee...
  11:45pm
Sybil:

And the answer to the math question for that last comment was 714.
  11:46pm
Swami:

Walked eight! Al Leiter must have done a hella lot of acid later in his career. I'd rather have that substance abuse problem in baseball than the steroid thing; steroid use makes the already dicki-ish jock unbearably dickier. More wee din the bigs!
  11:48pm
swami:

My answer was 511! Mel Ott, Ernie Banks, and me! That is also a Neil Young song title.
  11:49pm
efd:

oh don't get me started on Spaceman! if i ever get my act together i am going to try to set up an interview or guest DJ slot or something with him.
Laurie, i did not say "bi-curious," btw
  11:51pm
Laurie:

I am obviously hearing things.
  11:52pm
john:

The Spaceman documentary is a must, incidentally. I cherish my DVD.
  11:52pm
Sybil:

efd, that would be teh awesome!
  11:53pm
efd:

own it!
  11:53pm
john:

See? I SAID it was a must! And one of the halves of the math question was 420.
  11:53pm
toni d.:

evan i was just wonderin..have you got anything against SABRINA'S music?? btw this is my last post. GNITE!!=)=)=)
  11:56pm
Amanda:

YES! The Hustle. I had a feeling this was in the works when I heard that accidental sneak-preview...
  11:57pm
Swami:

How come it took two guys to create this effort? Did Mom make Jeff include Jack on this masterpiece?
  11:58pm
john:

In 8th grade my junior high offered hustle lessons. Our ex-nun mid-50s principal joined the class. Beginning of the end.
  11:58pm
efd:

Amanda, you are on it! welcome back, btw
  11:59pm
Jessica:

Unlock that funky chaindance [and] shake that fascist groove thang.
  12:01am
Amanda:

Thx! If I admitted I listened to last week's show in my headphones while at the airport, would I be more cool? I'm still mulling that over.

Still waiting for the ultimate alliteration set of mucca pazza, mockinpott, and mochipet...
  12:05am
Ted:

My family had that Hustle record. We listened an tried to learn the dance and got into a huge fight. That record ruins families.
  12:05am
Droll:

Please tell me the Shelley's do The Hokey Pokey on side 2!
  12:09am
Jessica:

John — "[...] I get mindless"? I can imagine glossing over "frightened" as a freshman in central CT (except not really; I grew up in SF, which was pretty much different planet. back then.) but I'm dying to know the "I'm not lyin'" replacement.
  12:10am
Amanda:

Holy mackerel! Supergrass with the Duke Spirit!?!? I hope someone gets that who deserves it.
  12:24am
efd:

actually those tix are still available, if anyone wants to try calling in again. someone was trying to call, but their end of the call was totally dead.
Droll, sadly side 2 is made up of songs that allow you to try out your newfound disco dance prowess. btw, great story, Ted!
  12:29am
Matt:

Joe Tex! This shit just got serious.

Awesome show, Evan!
  12:37am
speccy:

Pigpen is a pesty hitter!
  12:39am
speccy:

Are you also going to be wearing a vintage '76 uniform and a giambi stash when you walk up to the plate?
  12:39am
C:

I still think Manny had the best walk out song with the short-lived "I Got High."
  12:40am
efd:

yes on the uni, no on the 'stache
  12:40am
Sybil:

Perfect batting intro music!

This is all I have to add to the baseball discussion:

I love Manny. He makes me happy every time I see him. If he does end up going to another team... well... I hope it's the Mets (though I know that's unlikely).

Sportswriters suck.

That is all.
  12:42am
john:

Jessiica, People (note absence of pronoun) were altered enough that I don't think anyone ever did anything but repeat the "mindless" line. As I suggested, a not-unembarrassing incident, or series thereof.
  12:44am
Laurie:

You know I'm turning up the volume on Hoagiefest.
  12:44am
Sybil:

John, you're making it sound like the (muppets?) version of Danny Boy where they sing it "Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy oh Danny boy..."
  12:44am
john:

Sybil, last I heard the talk was Manny-to-Philly, which would blow in so many different ways for those of us who like both the Mutts and Sawx I can't begin to express it.
  12:45am
speccy:

So how much is WaWa paying you?
  12:45am
Matt:

This song actually kinda rocks.

Eat it, Bill Hicks!
  12:45am
john:

Sybil, good visual, really. Imagine a dozen of Statler and Waldorf in their early 20s and you're not far off.
  12:45am
efd:

hoagiefest makes me smile.
As does Manny. I'd be shocked if he goes anywhere this season, but it does look like the beginning of the end for him in Boston. Then again, it's seemed like that before.
  12:46am
efd:

speccy, it's not the money - it's the free limo rides to Wawa, since the nearest one is like an hour away from me.
  12:46am
Sybil:

OK, I do have one more thing to say on baseball.

My own, personal, no-BS theory of "what's eating Manny?" is that the absence of Julian Tavarez means we lost the "happy chatty Manny" of the season's start (and last season's end).
  12:48am
Sybil:

"Turkey so fine" really does kinda rock.
  12:49am
efd:

I KNOW!!!!!!!!!!1!!1ONE!!!
  12:51am
Matt:

It rocks, but not as much as Sparks does. They're still doing it.

"At Home At Work At Play" = the best song I'll ever hear? Perhaps...
  12:52am
efd:

that's not a bad Manny theory... everyone talks about him and Ortiz, but maybe it turns out Yo-Yo was the secret weapon after all.
Which would have made a Manny-for-Texeira swap interesting, if the Braves hadn't traded him to the Angels.
  12:54am
efd:

Matt, I would not argue that point.
  1:02am
miss buxley:

efd--i know that you play only one female artist per show,, but what have you got against sabrina??
  1:07am
efd:

nothing against Sabrina, i just need to re-acquaint myself with that song.
And I think that rule was one single-named female artist per show (such as Hilary)
  1:11am
miss b.:

thank you evan,,,see you next week,,love ya
  1:58am
john:

The Nutmeg State (TM) rawks! Makes me proud...
  8:21pm
Peecat:

Your show on July 29th was most excellent. Lots of great songs, good variety. I immediatly went online to buy a few items you played. Thanks for making me more broke than I already am.
  10:46am
dan in falls church VA:

Swami wrote: "Sometimes they take LSD in the bullpen and pitch no hitters. Dock Ellis! I never believed that by the way. His description of his trip was unconvincing."

You gotta believe it. Here's why. What's his last name, followed by the first initial of his first name?

Ellis D.

Say it aloud.

Yup.
