A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

  9:04am dale:

  9:07am trouble:

  9:10am dj:

Good song this ... by un

always opening my ears for new stuff .. go wfmu, and trouble :D
  9:12am dale:

sounds like popul vuh doing a duet with the bee gees...I like it!
  9:12am jonathan:

hell yeah, bee gees!
  9:14am dj:

wow bee gees ? i'm amazed, didn't know they made stuff like this .. is it possible that i can get suprised by everytrack on this set :D?
  9:17am dale:

popcorn takes me back to 5th grade. we had this 45 and Keem-O-Sabe by the Electric Indian. Too cool!
  9:19am jonathan:

we had popcorn on 8 track and listened to it incessantly when i was a kid. there was a version with lyrics, too. i think they were something like, "when the sun i shining green, when the sun is shining green..."
  9:23am dj:

very Joy Division this, good stuff :)
  9:25am Cubicle Carl:

I knew this guy who could play "popcorn" on his adam's apple.
  9:33am dale:

dj, have you seen "Control?" The lead channeled Ian Curtis performing pretty well.
  9:34am dj:

yeah i saw it. and i was surpised, in a very positive way :) .. good movie, and i'm glad they used unknown actors.

and shit Trouble .. you are takin' it there :) i'm digging this.
  9:35am jonathan:

i just saw control. that guy was fucking right on. so were the other dudes.
  9:37am Bad Ronald:

Morning folks!
  9:39am dj:

best talk over music trouble :) wfmu goes to the amazon.
  9:42am Listener Stu:

beautiful way to start the big mid-summer weekend ! celebrate the light !!
  9:43am dale:

"24 hour party people" is a good movie to rent if you're into that whole Manchester scene.

Different rockumentary, but "DIG" is hilarious...about Brian Jonestown Massacre and Dandy Warhol rivalry.
  9:45am Dan:

I just watched Control last month on May 18 -- totally unintentional. when the credits rolled and said he died on that day I was like "...whoa..."
  9:45am 55 Fingers:

I think I figured out why you don't care for my comments and I apologize. The show's quite good as always. Perhaps you'll forgive me.
  9:47am dj:

i can recommend 24 hour party people too .. good music .. about a great era in music :) back when it was about the music :)
  9:48am jonathan:

DIG! is HI- larious.
  9:49am dj:

oh damn trouble ... you know what to pick .. seen Maher shalal hash baz twice :) .. love osaka bridge..

the guy lives in my city now :) see him at a lot of shows.. in Copenhagen Denmark
  9:49am Eric:

Highly recommend DIG; hilarious snapshot of slightly self-important indie folk...Brian Jonestown Massacre, Bravery Repetition Noise, a definite classic though
  9:50am Cecile:

Not according to the old hippies I know, dj.

But ITA, good times, good times. Even though, *gasp*, I think I like New Order better. ;D
  9:51am R. P.:

I missed control, but saw a stellar music doc last night, "Wild Combination," about the life and music of Arthur Russell. The cellist who combined experimental music and disco. The way the film's images correlated with the music was spot on. And they had footage of Russell performing with the Talking Heads, from TV Party!
  9:52am dj:

arthur russel is a disco legend :D ... always good with some recommendations, haven't seen that doc.
  9:54am R. P.:

It just came out, and was shown at AFI in DC. The DVD won't be out until the Fall, with some limited theatrical release before that.
  9:56am dale:

just googled "wild combination"- looks good. I'm on an austerity budget though, so have to wait for the dvd to come out. I'm dusputing whether I can afford the trip up to the Town Crier to see Strawbs this weekend....
  10:00am Cecile:

strawbs are still around? impressive!
  10:02am jonathan:

going to see polvo in boston tomorrow if i can afford it.
why are my bloody valentine tix over $100? shit.
  10:04am Cecile:

Kevin Shields needs to pay the recording studio. It has been 14 years now...
  10:05am dj:

ok listen to this guys....

juni 29: The boss
29-6 (Roskilde festival -european festival)
July 7: Cluster
July 8: Lou Reed doing Berlin

that is my live set :D i'm looking sooooo much forward to it.
  10:08am dj:

midsommar !!!! :D

scandis burn the whitches and celebrate that darkness is coming back !.. odd thing to celebrate. but hey .. scandinavians are odd i guess
  10:10am dale:

Cluster as in Klaus Schulze/Ammon Duul sort of Cluster? Neat!
  10:11am dj:

yup ... that cluster .. i'm so thrilled i'm nearly pissing my pants :D
  10:12am C:

For everyone in DC, tickets are still available at Lisner to see Cesaria in October. I'm checking out Gilberto Gil there this Sunday. Can't wait. Anyone already seen him this tour?
  10:14am Laurie:

PS: Norwegian Lions: http://atvs.vg.no/player/?id=16995
  10:14am Tommy the intern:

Trouble, you rock.
  10:15am montreal:

funny how all of the jspaceman tracks on that soundtrack sound like old spectrum/sonic boom b-sides.
  10:17am R. P.:

Saw Cluster @ Floristree in Baltimore last month. They were being very ambient, which was great, except for a couple of loud talkers in the audience. Thanks for the reminder about G.G. in D.C. this Sunday, C.
  10:18am Cecile:

I love this big blood piece.
  10:23am Dan:

Nice one Trouble - how bout some Blossom Dearie?
  10:32am fishmonkeystew:

Ahhh, Orchestra Baobab. Nice, Trouble. You never fail to please. Got anything from Ry Cooder's Mambo Sinuendo?

  11:01am R. P.:

  11:16am Dan:

Play a mindless piece of crap pop song.
  11:21am Dan:

Good call!
  11:23am Sean:

How about le Celtics!
  11:24am Cecile:

Now, we need hot chocolate doing "every1's a winner..."

I am happy for the KG has the ring he deserves, as does the Doc Rivers. I am sad that MN did not keep the KG, but good for him for being the champ he is.
  11:26am Sky:

emmaline rocks my ohio morning.
thank you.
  11:34am jennifer:

hey trouble, in searching for yelle, i found a little wiki entry on her:

i remember you mentioning her name pronunciation last week and thought it was interesting that her name is actually an acronym.
  11:37am jonathan:

my friend just put this on his myspace. very good.

  11:38am Sean:

Un cancion de los Fleshtones? Son muy divertido!
  11:57am Ike:
