Favoriting JA In The AM with John Allen: Playlist from February 27, 2008 Favoriting

"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Listener comments!

  8:30pm
Bruce the Moose:

Working on doing a pledge for the dearly departed "World Of Echo" program - IMO (and the decision was tough) the best show (formerly) on WFMU. Just have to decide how badly I'm going to melt down the poor old Visa card.

Mike in SF:

I'll bet the Christe book is pretty entertaining; I've also been told the 1998 David Lee Roth autobiography is hilarious! Of course it's out of print.

dave:

on what bruce said: great to hear dave mandl. world of echo is sorely missed.
  8:50pm
Ike the Phone Slave:

Up on the block now: Karen Dalton! Pledge now to get in the running for this one.
  8:56pm
C:

i think DC is the closest
  9:12pm
Phone Slave #38249:

Up on the prize block now: Roky Erickson. A pledge of $10 or more gets you in the running for this one.

Also, don't forget that the grand prize for this show is the ESP box set. A pledge of $25 or more puts you in contention for that.

Remember, you can pledge now and pay later. 1-800-989-9368.

Hey, why hasn't this dirty hippie updated his playlist promptly? If I had not run out of energy long ago, I would throw stale blue tortilla chips at him! Bwahaha.

dave:

argh, who was the person who set that telephone thing up? I think i work with them, but i can't think of the name.
  9:55pm
New phone guy:

Up on the block: Thurston Moore's "Trees outside the academy" ... like, the whole cd! Not just part of it!

And if you think you work with the phone set-up guy, go and ask him. Maybe he's lonely.
  10:13pm
New phone guy's replacement:

Current prize up: The Dirty Projectors' "Rise Above" ... not to be confused with Rise Above's "The Dirty Projectors."
  10:35pm
That guy? His replacement:

Up on the prize block now: "Mutant Disco". It's got something for everyone ... people who love mutants ... people who love disco ... people who own cd players ... people with $10 burning a hole in their pockets ....
