For historical purposes, the violin bow played over electric guitar strings most likely started with Eddie Philips of Creation, whom Bob and Pete played earlier. But, HUBIG PIG, you hit it on the nose. Nigel Tufnel, in the landmark film, "Spinal Tap," made the ultimate innovation. He played an entire violin over his guitar strings. Even stopped to tune the violin mid-song. EPIC!

Bob, great show If I did not know better I could be listening to the Flange & Frigate on Sheenas. That is a compliment.

Crispian St Hubbins once made the mistake of saying he would be bigger than Elvis.

How come the Hassles never get any love? I know that's not the focus today, but I thought of them because they covered this one.

Looks like we have quite a few "Spinal Tap" fans here today. Some of those "pre-fabricated" rock bands were pretty good(cf. Monkees).

Gerry - I can never remember which of the Hadens is married to Jack Black. I remember when Ornette Coleman played at Keystone Korner and Charlie Haden was absent from the group because his wife was giving birth to triplets.

Good afternoon, Bob & Pete & everyone on the chatboard!
Decided to join in now, though late, because I was reintroduced to this era of music courtesy of beloved WFMU DJ Julie, who covers this era through her Eclectic Banana show late Sunday nights (and occasionally on her Tuesday show Dark Night Of The Soul). Now expecting to hear a tune from Roy Wood's The Move sometime within this final hour, fingers crossed.

I know some (like DJ Terre T) argue that Roy Wood was the true driving force behind ELO, For me, it's a silly argument, and for all Terre and anyone else knows, the accounts about whatever friction existed between Wood and Jeff Lynne were probably blown a bit out of proportion.

Gerry from Miami:

@Soule. Saw Charlie Haden playing with the Keith Jarrett Quartrt at UCLA's Royce Hall in 1974 with Dewey Redman on reeds and Paul Motian on drums. As the band was about to start playing, a lone voice came out of the middle rows--"HI, Daddy!" One of the girls was giving a shout-out to Charlie, not sure which one. Very cute. Saw Haden one more time in the reunion of the original Ornette Coleman Quartet for the1984 Olympic Arts Festival, also in LA. Unfortunately, trumpeter Don Cherry had to have emergency dental surgery and didn't make the gig.
