a little bit of climate change, a little bit of poor urban planning, a big-ass hurricane (see the former point). Yeah, I got a meter of water inside (the lake level is about 15 feet below my old flat) , and had to move out to a second floor apartment. (now if the lake floods me, the city/state is tre effed...)

I had no idea it was the lake behind me, since it's so much lower than where my apt was, and I faced away from the lake. I thought it was just poor street drainage. but after the water crested over the sandbags at 4am, the water just kept on coming. by daybreak, it mostly stopped. We got 8" of rain in 2 hours (15" total). What was scary, is I went to sleep at 2am, everything looked fine. When the water first started to come inside, the electricity was still on, and the circuit breaker was outside.. luckily, we lost power before the water got to the power outlets...

crazy ngh, crazy.
when i was little our basement flooded to about 8" from the ceiling -so ~1.5' below the kitchen floor. my father told us the water must be electrified because of some wires and the breakers, etc... but i had to find out!
it wasn't shocking right at the kitchen door' but it probably was, farther in.
