Avatar 6:19pm
johnyoung1234:

I will say that I had never heard "Rice Is Nice" until I heard it on one of your shows. I have discovered so many hidden 60's gems from CTTS and the many box sets you have produced. Thanks (as always) for keeping this music alive!
Avatar 6:20pm
WLSClark:

Livin too Fast is awesome. Their version of Day Dont Come cool too.
Avatar 6:20pm
cometothesunshine:

Thanks, JY1234 - I am rediscovering songs too going back over these very early shows. Also, retransferring all the singles, they sound just great to my ears.
Avatar 6:25pm

My favorite version of this song.

This great Everlies song was top 20 on WLS by Barry Lee show--love it!

Great show so far!

How funny he wrote this and then did You Cant Do That later too
Avatar 6:32pm
cometothesunshine:

He had quite the crush on the Beatles
Avatar 6:36pm
johnyoung1234:

I discovered "She Sang Hymns Out of Tune" from your "Where The Action Is" box set. I bought that set one year for Christmas because Rhino had put it on sale on their site. I had low expectations since I didn't recognize most of the songs but man...it blew me away. It's a treasure trove of great music.
Avatar 6:36pm
cometothesunshine:

JY1234 - that is probably my favorite compilation of all the ones that I put together.
  6:41pm
Carmelita:

That’s interesting that Stand Up and Holler was meant to be played with 8mm film. It’s like an early music video.
Avatar 6:44pm
Erica:

A lot of Uni singles on the show today. Interesting fact: Elton John's early hits were released on Uni, in the US anyway.
  6:46pm
Carmelita:

Nice song. Gary Lewis is a friend of mine. He’s a really great guy.
Avatar 6:46pm
cometothesunshine:

It was years before I knew I would do a whole UNI show. And I also thought I would maybe only do 10 episodes.
Avatar 6:50pm
cometothesunshine:

This is a great and seldom heard Graham Gouldman song.
  6:52pm
Carmelita:

Yes this is a good song
Avatar 6:59pm
cometothesunshine:

The Ivy League were fairly unique for the UK, who had fewer vocal groups than the US. They also melded styles of the Righteous Bros & Beach Boys with UK Beat music.
Avatar 7:03pm
bags:

Just catching up - Normie Rowe is still gigging in Australia and still has a great voice!
Avatar 7:05pm
cometothesunshine:

I would love to see him, Bags!
Avatar 7:06pm
WLSClark:

Ivy League/Flowerpots Men harmonies are just exquisite! I have their old 45s and CDs but not sure anything more recent than 80s has surfaced with better sound?
Avatar 7:07pm
cometothesunshine:

There is a 2CD set from 1997 that has all of their recordings in one place (but not these BBC sessions)
Avatar 7:08pm
WLSClark:

That may be one I have. John Carter set?
Avatar 7:10pm
cometothesunshine:

It is called Major League
  7:12pm

uptownjen:

These are the artist spotlights I love most: Ones where I know the artist’s big hits inside and out but know very little of their extended catalogue. This is where you really shine as a curator of cool, Andrew. 😊
Avatar 7:24pm
WLSClark:

Andrew, WOW, looks like a GREAT CD set! Thanks!!
Avatar 7:25pm
cometothesunshine:

Thank you @Jen - these are fun to expand upon, since the early shows were so primitive
Avatar 7:36pm
WLSClark:

Andrew, I dont know if you remember this but back probably when you did show 9, I sent a tape of this song recorded off WCFL in Chicago with cold ending. I have searched for this for 55 years and have never found that US 45 version with cold ending. Have you ever found one like that?
Avatar 7:36pm
cometothesunshine:

Running Round In Circles?
Avatar 7:37pm
WLSClark:

YES! It ended JUST like the drum cold ending you just played. I wonder if possibly WCFL somehow got the BBC recording?
Avatar 7:38pm
WLSClark:

The song actually made WCFL's chart for a week, so maybe it was an exclusive that way.
Avatar 7:38pm
cometothesunshine:

Will have to go back over that one
Avatar 7:42pm
Erica:

Is the Tony Burrows of the Ivy League the same guy from Edison Lighthouse, Pipkins and First Class?
Avatar 7:42pm
cometothesunshine:

Same guy, Erica
Avatar 7:43pm
Erica:

Oh boy. That guy was a one hit wonder multiple times in the 70s.
Avatar 7:44pm
cometothesunshine:

Yes, I saw him live once.
Avatar 7:45pm
Erica:

My mom grew up with Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes. That's how I know about him.
