I wanted to mention that the Platon Karataev concert at Arlene's had to be cancelled, along with the New Haven one, because it turns out that musicians from abroad need a P or O visa to perform in any capacity at all in the U.S. We're still traveling for the ALSCW Conference at Yale and our own individual visits/sightseeing, and we're excited about that.

Wonderful, David. Visited Portugal twice, most recently in 2019. Stayed for 2 weeks in a country house well up the Douro valley, deep in vineyard heaven. Have yet to experience fado live, maybe next time.

I have only been in the airport in Lisbon when we got cheap tix to and from Barcelona on TAP. The flights over were fine. Delayed coming back first by lack of plane and then because Portuguese soldiers with machine guns hauled everyone with darkish skin or a beard out of the lounge, lined us all up, and gave us a couple of hours of intimate pat-downs before releasing us.

Which was only about the fourth-roughest aspect of that particular trip home. Yeesh.
