hi Mr. Fab!
Just discovered this a few weeks ago and GEEKING OUT. Really exciting

This is very excellent.

Welcome HyperDose, Mr Fab, Krys O and Austin!

I can't id any of the samples, which I usually like to be able to do (the rule here has always been at least 50% sampled, for anyone new to the program), but I decided to risk it, it's so pretty.

Can’t hang around tonight as I’m actually leaving the house on a Tuesday night for once! Will catch up with the archive later.

What could Kat mean? "Leaving the house." I thought people stopped doing that?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:08pm

hi/bye Kat! Hi Aitch! Thanks for being here.

This Plus-Tech Squeeze is pretty dope.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:10pm
postconsumer:

It's apparently chock full of countless samples. They all go by so quickly...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm
Krys O.:

Leaving the house means work, groceries, or doctor visits. Oh, I did see a couple of movies this year. Went to a theater with a mask policy. I may go again next month to see The Whale at the Montclair Film Festival.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm
Andrew_in_WI:

Couldn't pick out a single sample
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm
Andrew_in_WI:

This one's easier
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:12pm
postconsumer:

I have been to the theater, w/ mask, once, very recently.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:12pm
Austin Rich:

We tried to go to a theater to watch a movie with masks on. We got there and the theater was packed (not partial capacity, as promised), and the mask policy was not enforced.

We've got a big TV. I miss going to movies, but... yeah.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:12pm

Yes! only a couple, from French mashup artist, DSP
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
postconsumer:

discovered DSP a few weeks ago and love the approach.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:14pm
postconsumer:

I love, love, love old movie theaters, but yeah... I kind of prefer my "home theater" these days. I can more effectively shush folks at home... 😂
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:14pm
Austin Rich:

No one is looking at their phone, or writing a novel in the corner.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:15pm

exactly!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
postconsumer:

Or there's that couple in the back who thinks they can talk to each other through the whole damn movie and somehow no one else can hear them.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:17pm
Austin Rich:

I never found out what Matrix II was about because of a similar couple, but I had a good time listening to everyone around me yell at them the whole night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm
Krys O.:

The Montclair Film Festival bought and renovated a local theater, made it an art house style venue. It's really nice. Some of the bigger Festival shows are held at the Wellmont Theater, a renovated Beaux Arts theater. Brendan Fraser will be doing a Q&A for The Whale moderated by Stephen Colbert. Stephen lives in Montclair and his wife is the executive director of the Festival.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:18pm

This Rik Rue is from a cassette put out in 1983
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm
Krys O.:

Could that be Slim Whitman?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:19pm
Austin Rich:

I wish I lived near actual culture. It's a three hour drive round trip to a theater like that. As someone who took a lot of film classes in college, not having access to a good art theater really hurts.

I love this Rik Rue.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:20pm
postconsumer:

I was just about to ask if anyone recognized the source material. I don't know!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:21pm
postconsumer:

Austin, I thought you lived in the capitol city? no art houses? :0
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
Austin Rich:

Salem has one movie theater that shows second-run "new-ish" art movies. Nothing old, no cool guest speakers. I worked there briefly, but they have lax Covid policies.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
postconsumer:

"discovered" this last year and wasted a lot of time trying to gather up the vinyl before discovering there was a CD compilation...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
Krys O.:

@Austin: I live two towns over from Montclair. I can literally walk there, but it would take about 40 minutes and at night it's rather risky. Since I don't have a car, I have to rely on my feet, NJ Transit or Uber.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
Austin Rich:

I gotta drive to PDX and back for a cool theater.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
Austin Rich:

Salem has Oath Keepers who guard some businesses downtown for fun. "Culture" takes scary forms here.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:25pm
postconsumer:

jeez. That sucks. super scary. :(
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:25pm
postconsumer:

In PDX: Hollywood Theater? Cinema 21? Those are (were) my go-to theaters, before pandemic.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
Austin Rich:

We do what we can. There's cool bookstore. And the record store is up-and-coming, but we've been without a record store for years.

Yeah, those are great theaters! Which I could get back there.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:28pm

Steve Fisk! Yes!

Here's how the artist describes this one: "An homage to one of the most classic mashups ever, 2001's "Can't Get Blue Monday Outta My Head" by Gary Gee, this one instead features HEALTH's 2017 dark industrial cover of New Order's "Blue Monday" (from the movie Atomic Blonde) along with a very sloooooowed down Kylie Minogue."

(In the vein of, I mean. I've got a couple records around the lounge somewhere.)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:43pm

I tried finding actual copies online and they are long gone (or selling for ridiculous amounts).
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:44pm

Yeah. I'm always astonished at how expensive shit is.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:48pm

I can only imagine. Some of those old records are banged up, even when you finally get them.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:50pm

I get the impression sometimes they're just pressed that way, too.
