	8:38pm Listener Gregory: @WR, I don’t really know who it refers to, but I’ve often heard Higgins called Smilin’ Billy Higgins, and he does in fact smile angelically while playing. Also, there was a drum feature in the piece. No doubt later someone will inform us that it refers to Miles Davis as an inside joke or something.

	🥁 ♥ 9:19pm WR: LG, you are correct: "The album included Jimmy’s four-part “Smiling Billy Suite” (dedicated to the drummer Billy Higgins)". That quote is from Jimmy Heath's NYT obituary. On the back cover of the album is a comment that the album title, suggested by their sister Betty, "Marchin' On" was in honor of their parents so I was looking for further family connections. There are, but Smilin' Billy wasn't one of them.

Best known for his membership in Sun Ra’s Arkestra, Abdullah played a vital part in the 1970s New York Loft Jazz scene. Abdullah discusses his time with Sun Ra, playing with Jazz legends like Sam Rivers and authoring his memoir, A Strange Celestial Road.
