Did you guys know that Yoko's mom and dad were ultra rich? They were the upper echelon of Japanese aristocracy. The dad was the first Japanese to open Japanese bank in the USA in history! (It was in New York). I suspect that when she told her parent she wanted to marry John Lennon, they were vehemently against it. She graduated from an elite Ivy University. He didn't'even graduate from College. That would make any Japanese parents totally against this marriage! (this is my conjecture!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mike - Weren't they opposed to her first marriage as well? I seem to remember reading that somewhere
Avatar 3:49pm

Interesting, Mike. All I know about Yoko's youth was - didn't her family survive Hiroshima?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
StringOFperils:

Fluxus was all about immaterial, non-commercial, impermanent, impossible to possess non-sequitirs in Capitalism, so I doubt that Yoko really gives a shite about her artworld creds...but, then, the giftshop is a pomo addition and notoriety IS art now I suppose
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - I'd heard that as well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm
Rich in Washington:

Yeah, I've read bits of Yoko's bio. Its fascinating. Her pre-Lennon art career was really interesting, as was most of Fluxus' roster.
Fun fact: Beck's grandfather Al Hansen was also a key Fluxus member.
Avatar 3:55pm
Mike Rogers:

"I suppose" Yeah. That's right.
I don't know about Hiroshima. Yoko Grew up in Tokyo, that's all I know.
