@Tim: One of the best ever out of texas.

They were friends and mentors to my teenage self, and I'm fortunate to have been able to keep up with Kelly (and Bob) over the years. Kelly was diagnosed with dementia about four years ago, and sadly, his condition declined fairly rapidly.

As Creamo notes, Teaching You the Fear is still powerfully relevant down here. If you're not hip to Really Red, AFTER Creamo's show, dive in. Anyone who digs Spin Age Blasters ought to dig Really Red.

Wild Neil||Peace All:

Can is a really really great band that I heard referred to as "The German Pink Floyd". However, I think they are much much more than that. I think its great they made some songs that were kinda pop songs and not just self absorbed noise. They really could hypnotize the listener which I think is their charm. I think they had some of the roots of punk in them in their dissonance affinity.

I think Tim from Washington is onto something there with the PIL John Lydon comment. Can reminds me of Monks also a bit in their anger and loping 60s psych song structure.

Niall:

I have heard in the past that there was a sort of exploitative relationship between the rest of Can and him - and then Damo Suzuki - a la the accusations often leveled at, say, Reynols. Based on what I've heard of this interview, those objections don't seem to hold much water. Dude seems to have plenty of agency and his shit together.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm
tim from washington:

@Niall - Interesting. I'd never heard that and it seems those accusations might be made from assumptions. Same with Reynols. From what I've consistently read over the years, Miguel is an equal participating member of the group. It's never been a situation similar to some of the "handlers" Wesley Willis had.

@Miss G: Nah, I don't think it's a refutation or challenge; the Reynols thing os definitely something I've read and heard over the years, and the Reynols guys have responded to it (see other messages here - there's a reason we've also heard that Miguel is an equal partner in that project).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm

@JetBoy - also, if you are a digital-CD person, try hard to find the early 1990s reissues on Mute-Restless (I believe). Almost all of them sound quite true to the originals. Whereas the early 2000s reissues are awful... they are overly limited and crudely "noise reduced". Kind of a shock because Holger supposedly oversaw, but – they're bad.
