  7:11pm Doug Schulkind:

D:O me baby, one more time!

Oops I'm doing it again, @Doug.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:15pm alanr:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm Jeff Golick:

All important questions, @alanr. I defer to the group.
Avatar 7:25pm trev from denville:

Avatar 7:26pm trev from denville:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Webhamster Henry:

He's playing Black MIDI.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Jeff Golick:

He's Jaki-ing!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:30pm alanr:

One of the weirdest shows I saw at the Brooklyn Museum was in the late '90s or early 2000, a duet with Jaki Byard and Greg Osby, quite the odd couple. Byard, if I recall correctly, was in a certain stage of dementia or Alzheimers, and when they played together, Osby seemed intimidated and held back. Along with some odd chatter from Byard about tinkling the keys and replaying the same parts of a tune a few times.
  7:31pm rw:

JG, you picked the theme just so you could play this song, right?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:31pm chresti:

DeeOuts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Jeff Golick:

@rw, not a bad supposition. I forget the original inspiration, tho.

Hey, @chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Jeff Golick:

@alanr: that does sound like a weird one. Tough, even.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:34pm alanr:

I think I heard that Byard was one of Osby's teachers
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:35pm ParUbi:

Love the Residents!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:35pm chresti:

The internet has been on the outs and ons today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Jeff Golick:

Yeah, @ParUbi, eye see you!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:36pm alanr:

mistake in my google search.... Jason Moran was the student, not Osby. Makes more sense.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm Jeff Golick:

Oh what does google know. (But yeah makes sense.)
  7:57pm Doug Schulkind:

Silence = Death makes me think of the brave, brilliant and effective activists of Act Up. Who could forget their battle cry: “We’re here. We’re queer. GET USED TO IT!”
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:02pm chresti:

D:O after hours
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03pm Jeff Golick:

Recently saw the photo depicting when Act Up put a condom over Jesse Helms' entire house.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm Jeff Golick:

Ha, @chresti. I had another theme in mind that would've done better even later in the evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm Ike:

Hi all!

Wow, I'd forgotten about the Jesse Helms house condom. That reminds me of the time Dan Savage's sex column readers voted to give Rick Santorum's last name the definition "the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex." For a long after that, that was the first SEO result for any search for "santorum".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm Ike:

Sadly, it's not currently still the first Google result that I get... but at least it's still the second, third, fourth, and sixth results! Ha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm Jeff Golick:

Hey, @Ike! That is still my personal #1 association with Santorum, fwiw.
  8:33pm Doug Schulkind:

Love these Oliver Nelson charts. Quite daring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm Jeff Golick:

My spidey sense was tingling a bit during the Nelson.
  8:35pm Dean:

I don't want to be a party pooper, but everybody needs to (re)read Leo Bersani's "Is the Rectum a Grave?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm Jeff Golick:

Who is going to wipe up after that entrance, @Dean?
  8:46pm Dean:

October, vol. 43, AIDS: Cultural Analysis/Cultural Activism (Winter, 1987), pp. 197-222

26 single-ply pages

Truly, this 35-year-old article has much to tell us.
  8:47pm Dean:

Bersani was at Berkeley. Died earlier this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm Jeff Golick:

I'll get to it once I finish this math homework.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:50pm northguineahills:

Jeff!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm Jeff Golick:

@north! @guinea! @hills!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:52pm northguineahills:

what, no Anthony Braxton equations?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm Jeff Golick:

@ngh, well, a good idea, but I've got other Braxton plans brewing. Come back June 4 in the evening...

I miss having access to Jstor academic papers....
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:04pm WR:

Roswell Rudd sure was swell on that Bley track.
  9:04pm Dean:

Thanks, @WR. It's history, but not so remote, and it utterly implicates issues we continue to have to manage. Epidemic. Pandemic. Utterly groundless discrimination.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:05pm doctorjazz:

Nice to get here for Carla Bley, one of my favs (Irene did a short feature on her Monday.).
Hi Outies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Jeff Golick:

Hi, @doc!
🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:08pm zzz:

ditto to what @docjazz said. just in time!
Freddie Roach: perhaps not the best of the many incredible blue note soul-jazz organ players but definitely the coolest looking. (He is damn good though!)
evening DJ JG and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm Jeff Golick:

Greetings, @zzz!
🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:13pm zzz:

omg, gary wilson 6.4 = make out. i just heard this for the first time earlier this week on the “enjoy the experience” comp, companion to the book. what an insane song!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm Jeff Golick:

You got that right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm Jeff Golick:

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:44pm chresti:

zzz I think I heard it on Marty McSorley's show
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:46pm northguineahills:

This Kaiser Sextett is amazing!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:52pm doctorjazz:

Cool show (what I caught, will try to hear the rest in the archives. But, y'know, there's so much good live music now on the stream, it's getting harder and harder to do the catch up bit).
Anyway, thanks, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm Jeff Golick:

I totally understand, @doc! Thanks for tuning in!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:53pm WR:

And thank you, Jeff, for the referrals tonight.
  9:57pm rw:

I can't think of any good math jokes so I'll just say thank you Jeff G! Nice one. Greater than the sum of its parts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm Jeff Golick:

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:00pm northguineahills:
