BOB, getting through this Alabama Concerto has been rewarding over the last few weeks. Cannonball is a master! Kudos to all involved!

We can always count on hearing some Luther Grosvenor and Spooky Tooth here on the Brainen Bash.

  11:56am dan:

You and Pete need to do as one of your monthly shows, something Classical music related
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am doctorjazz:

Thanks Fred! I'm impressed, good memory (actually this coming Wednesday, but will be out celebrating with family tonight).
  11:57am Gerry from Miami:

Had not heard this famous Ravel piece as a piano solo before. Sounds great.

Blown away by this Tanega collection. Beautiful stuff.
Avatar 🥁 12:05pm (Mr) Bill:

That was my kinda set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm fred:

@doctorjazz: I remember it as roughly a couple of weeks before Irene and Mayuko's birthday. I don't know if I should hope Irene is on the (virtual) air on her birthday. Seems fitting to me, but I only know her radio side
  12:09pm dan:

You can never have too much Kinks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm fred:

@doctorjazz and Stork and adam: and they say Glen Passaic devastates brain function!
Avatar 🥁 12:14pm PT:

Good afternoon BB and fellow listeners! When I was but a wee lad, I thought Dave Davies was shouting "Oh yeah!" on the fade of Big Black Smoke. Many years later, I realized he was saying "Oyez! Oyez!" in the manner of a town crier of olde. Fascinating factoid? Maybe not, but that's all I got.
  12:15pm gene sculatti:

Hey, Bob. I'm late. Sounding good.
Avatar 12:16pm Bob Brainen:

Hey PT! Interesting. As in "Hear ye, hear ye" I'd guess.
Avatar 12:16pm Bob Brainen:

Hey Gene, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm doctorjazz:

LOVE this Eternality, post bop bliss!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm doctorjazz:

Interestingly (and relating to the post I did at 12:19 on my remaining brain cells), I went to bandcamp to check out Dialectic Soul, and it tells me I own it...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm fred:

@doctorjazz: is it in the ever-growing pile of stuff you bought but didn't have time to listen to? Or the one some household members might call "get rid of these before he remembers to play them"
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Andrew in Toronto:

This is dead sexy!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm doctorjazz:

@Fred, por que no los dos?
  12:30pm dan:

Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention’s hip cousin
  12:33pm Robbie White:

I recently played Alison Gross on WOWD
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm fred:

@doctorjazz: Does your daughter have another show lined up? I mean besides the so-off-broadway-it's-NJ production of what you listen to
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm doctorjazz:

@Fred-you started off nicely, should have known it wouldn't last...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm chresti:

Ha doc, your daughter might enjoy Cha Cha Heels' upcoming episode (tomorrow 9-11pm) "Drama Class"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm fred:

@doctorjazz: then again, I know people who'd definitely check out her picks for eventual programming in local venues
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm doctorjazz:

Hi, chresti, maybe, I'll let her know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Alex In Illinois:

@dan- Did you come up with that description of Steeleye Span? It's too good to not reuse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm doctorjazz:

I like that description as well, but were Fairport not that hip...?
  1:00pm Gerry from Miami:

That Jocque and LeScott rendition of Ornette Coleman is the coolest thing I've heard since the late Charlie Haden's daughter, Petra, took on the entire "The Who Sell Out" album by the Who, rendered in vocal overdubs of all parts, both singing and instrumental. Amazing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm doctorjazz:

dB's, a fave (along with their subsequent solo albums), great tune!
  1:02pm dan:

Is this the same as the Joan Jett song?
  1:03pm dan:

@Alex
Yes, I came up with that saying just now
  1:05pm Gerry from Miami:

Is Morris Lane a Dick Tracy fan?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:06pm RB:

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:28pm RB:

Wow , have never heard Jellyroll speak like this , excellent
  1:32pm Gerry from Miami:

This Jr. Walker tune reminded me of the summer of '69, when I spent two months at Fort Ord, California, training to go to war in Vietnam. Somehow, over the constant, thick fog at night, we were able to pick up songs like "Mendocino," by the Sir Douglas Quintet and Jr. Walker's "What Does It Take(to Win Your Love For Me?") on our puny AM radios. Oh yeah, also can't forget to mention "Sugar Sugar," by the Archies.
  1:33pm Robbie White:

Bob, Frank Zappa considered all his songs part of a LARGE composition. He called it CONCEPTUAL CONTINUITY
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Andrew in Toronto:

Thanks for a great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm doctorjazz:

Cool percussion, jumps out, band plays without it, just a soloist over the group.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm doctorjazz:

Close to the end, great show, Bob, thanks!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:46pm RB:

Thanks for the great show RB, as always !
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:48pm listener 126464:

That was the soothing voice of Joe Pernice, no? Thanks for the sounds Bob.
  1:49pm Gerry from Miami:

Always the best way to spend my early Saturday afternoons. BOB. Hope to catch you next week.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Will the Sound Guy:

Thank you Bob for the tunes!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm fred:

@doctorjazz: Enjoy the birthday celebration! But stay off the Glen Passaic, it's dubious enough to start with, but if you get it from any place but the Stork club, with its renowned quality standards, you're taking a chance. Second hand dioxin is bad news
  1:54pm Gerry from Miami:

I do believe that "Follow You Down" tune you played is done by the New MENDICANTS, not Medicats. Just a minor typo.
Avatar 🥁 1:55pm (Mr) Bill:

Wonderful show. My blood pressure's way down from the 11 a.m. reading.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:55pm spodiodi:

thanks, Bob!
Avatar 🥁 1:55pm wmfromD:

Superfine show today Bob!
  1:59pm Gerry from Miami:

WHEW!! Even I made a typo in my correction of your spelling of MENDICANTS.
