Still spring-snowed in, Hubig?
Avatar 12:28pm Mary Wing:

Howdy chris in the redwood, yay for jury duty DONE! I did one day last year, so glad I am free for another 7 (?) years.
Avatar 12:29pm Mary Wing:

Hiya doctorjazz and Stanley!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:29pm chris in the redwoods:

i think i *may* be free for two years now. seven would be nicer.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Stanley:

Last time I got pulled for jury service, I managed to escape the final pick. Just as well as the accused was up for flashing some teenage girls and, no joke, he appeared in court in a dirty old raincoat.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Handy Haversack:

I never get as far as being asked questions for jury duty. Which is too bad because I got a LOT to say!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:31pm David (in London):

Stanley, Chris, docj (as greeted above).
Avatar 🥁 12:32pm Hubig Pie:

photos.app.goo.gl... It's melting fast but wx service has issued another winter storm watch for the weekend. Maybe another foot of snow
Avatar 12:32pm Mary Wing:

Bah, Stanley, that sounds so bizarre as to be true, heh.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:32pm chris in the redwoods:

oh my, Stanley. talk about open and shut case... not that i mind jury duty, at all. i find it interesting. i'm also lucky enough to get paid my normal salary by my employer, while serving. this time, though, the People did not want me, for whatever reason.

hey, David!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:32pm David (in London):

I've done jury service twice, the second time at The Old Bailey (i.e. THE central criminal court in England). A truly depressing experience.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Stanley:

Honestly Mary but innocent until proven guilty etc.
What was the gig, David?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Irony is that the good guys *wish* sane people would get on the jury...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...tho I imagine doing it in Olde English settings would just be so Lewis Carroll for me I'd think I was tripping ...&/or Dickensian ...& finally all JohnCleese-like...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:36pm David (in London):

Stanley, I'll answer that, but off-line.

Still it gave me plenty of time in the jurors' room to read 'A Savage War of Peace', which is a fairly weighty tome to be sure.
Avatar 🥁 12:37pm Hubig Pie:

Were the powdered wigs on display, DiL ?
Avatar 12:37pm Sylvia:

Hello Mary and listeners!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:39pm chris in the redwoods:

hi, Sylvia! (Mary's meditating...)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Phillippe:

Not sure if I shared this before. Last time I served it was for an injury claim. Dude got rear-ended at a light and saw it coming, so he braced himself and wound up tearing his rotator cuff from gripping the steering wheel so tight. Defendant did not dispute responsibility, just was being tight with the pain and suffering amount. Jury selection was long and tedious, longer than the actual trial. Defense attorney asked an exhaustive list of questions, probing for relationships with medical personnel, family members in the legal profession, experience with insurance companies. The one question she did NOT ask was if anyone had had rotator cuff surgery, which was the case for two members of the selected jury. Deliberations were over in 30 minutes, including selecting a foreman, deciding guilt, how much to award and ordering coffee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Came up once in Santa Barbara - right when the City was crucifying a good friend of mine. So I told the judge - you prove to *me* that the Court serves Truth & Justice ! ...Dismissed.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Stanley:

David - that will be interesting.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:41pm David (in London):

Indeed they were Hubig. Bar wigs, as they are known. (Which is going to be the name of my new 60s revivalist heavy beat group, The Bar Wigs.)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Stanley:

Reminds me of when Fat Freddy was called for jury duty, for which there was a $100 daily allowance, so he dresses up straight; suit, tie, hair combed etc, Accused turns out to be a poor hippie (who is obviously innocent) and his liberal lawyer throws Fat Freddy off the jury for being too straight!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Phillippe:

If I was to form a raga band, I'd call us The Ragamuffins
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

HaHa Stanley nice twist.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:48pm chresti:

Ha Phillippe, yeah after all that time it took for the jury to be selected, they just wanted to get the heck out of there.
Avatar 12:49pm Mary Wing:

Salut Sylvia!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Handy Haversack:

Exactly, Rev Rab. I don't think I'd make it very far.

Stanley: "Do you think you look normal ... your honor?"
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Stanley:

Handy - so you know the coalman,.
Avatar 12:50pm Mary Wing:

Jeez, Phillippe, that is too funny. Ask every question EXCEPT "do you have a rotator cuff injury?"
Avatar 🥁 12:50pm Hubig Pie:

I've only been to the courthouse once so far during my term. Defendant was representing himself on an assault charge. He was wearing a set of silver spurs ! and the only question he asked prospective jurors was if they sported any tattoos. It's a strange world out there.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:50pm chresti:

Davidkins! rw!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:51pm David (in London):

Hubig, damn, I should have worn spurs the Bailey.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Good morning-ish, Mary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...we'll go en masse dressed as CaptainBeefheart's MagicBand.
Avatar 🥁 12:52pm Hubig Pie:

DiL, silver spurs and Bar wigs are a fashion no-no
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Phillippe:

@chresti it was more like there wasn't anything to debate. We asked the two people who had the rotator cuff surgery what they thought was a good amount, they were both close in their opinions, so we met the amount in the middle and then started looking for the Splenda.

Mary, yeah, this was a number of years ago, but I think one of the folks was less than a month out from wearing a sling
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:54pm David (in London):

Hubig, blimey, thanks, I didn't realise that. Glad I didn't make a terrible fashion faux pas in full view of the public gallery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...we find the Defendant - Not GillRotatorCup.
Avatar 12:55pm Mary Wing:

Hey there S&M&S! Time for lunch!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:56pm David (in London):

I saw Bauhaus last Halloween, and this was one of the highlights. Sounded absolutely amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yes good to hear. Was such a staple one point in my life & not @ all now...
Avatar 12:58pm Mary Wing:

Last year, David? All four members?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...always say - Bauhaus the basic RawkBand set-up of g-b-d-v - but so creative with it.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:02pm David (in London):

Mary, yep, the whole kit and caboodle. They were my second ever gig in 1983, so it was pretty amazing to see them again - and for them to be just as good. Pete Murphy's voice is still absolutely amazing. He wasn't backing off from the high notes, just hitting them perfectly. David J still the coolest man in the room, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

A little like KingCrimson 'Red' this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:
