Nice way to get in the radio mood.

Welcome Austin & Mr. Fab!!

Mr Fab:

i didn't notice it was at the wrong speed. you probably could have gotten away with it! Just figured Arthur was in a frisky mood.
Avatar 4:10pm
Rubberband Girl:

I did consider that...

Mr Fab:

How far a drive is it to San Fran?
Avatar 4:18pm
Rubberband Girl:

6 1/2 hours from where I am at, like Bay to LA.
Avatar 4:19pm
Mr Fab:

Wow! Can you fly, or do you have to drive?
Avatar 4:20pm
Mr Fab:

I did a whole show of "Tequla" rip-offs, wish I'd known about David Rose and His Orchestra "Chapo".
Avatar 4:20pm
Rubberband Girl:

Funny enough, there is a tiny airline that flies from Oakland to Crescent City, but I needed to drive, as I'm still fetching belongings from the area. And yes, it does sound like Tequila!

Austin Rich:

I only knew the Robert Mitchum version of this, though I was sure it was a cover, too. Guess I never looked for the original.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Austin Rich:

It's only 9 1/2 hours to drive from Salem, OR to San Francisco. I guess that's not really that far away?
Avatar 4:26pm
Mr Fab:

The Jimmy Soul version is called "If You Wanna Be Happy" I believe. But yeah, I think it's an older calypso. Don't know who did it first - sounds like it changed and evolved over the years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm
Austin Rich:

One thing listening to WFMU has taught me: there's usually an older version of the song, somewhere.
Avatar 4:28pm
Mr Fab:

Ha, true!

Earned my radio and heart this week, Mr. Fab! I'm a real DJ now!
Avatar 4:29pm
Rubberband Girl:

There is a daily segment on my commercial station where people have to call in and name the original artist of a cover I play, and I have learned A LOT from it! Many surprising roots and originals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm
Austin Rich:

The one's that used to surprise me is when MAC would play something on the Antique Phonograph music program, and he'd play something from 1919, and it would be a song I knew from TV and radio. Used to always blow my mind.
Avatar 4:35pm
Mr Fab:

Right, like decades after have Louis Prima's version embedded into my mind hearing the orig versions of "Just A Gigolo" and "Ain't Got No Body" - two entirely different songs, and both done in this very smooth crooner style. Very surreal.

Next thing you're gonna tell is that Guitars Unlimited did not write "Whiter Shade of Pale"?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm
Austin Rich:

I think I've heard that one before. I could be wrong.
Avatar 4:36pm
Rubberband Girl:

lol @Fab. RIP Gary Brooker of Procol Harum!
Avatar 4:37pm
Rubberband Girl:

This one... I don't know if it's actually Ray Conniff or not, it's Polish import with little notes...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
Austin Rich:

Looking at the track-list for that Sheena's CD, I'm really wishing I'd gotten in on that! I couldn't have whipped up something fun. Next time!
Avatar 4:38pm
Rubberband Girl:

I wish I could have been a part of it but did not have anything original to contribute 🀷
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm

You should do the narration with GeorgieGirl next time.

Don't know if I've ever heard any non-novelty Shirley Ellis. This is quite good, really nice. Wonder why her career didn't move beyond children's songs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm
Austin Rich:

Gotta love that fever... I think I might be the rare person who has never covered it (or Louie Louie) in any band I've been in. (I've been wanting to do Louie Louie, just haven't yet.)

I'm doing by best to strike a rakish pose on the sofa. But without a white dinner jacket & a martini, to complete the look.

Austin Rich:

Wannabe Ray Conniff isn't that bad, when you think about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm
Austin Rich:

I'm so torn about what I should do for MVM for Marathon. I was thinking of the ridiculous theme of "only things I can reach while I'm doing the voice overs." Could be fun... I have a shelf of CDs just far enough away that it could be fun.

Also like the idea of only stuff from 2022... Or maybe expanding to "within the last year exactly."

I guess I have about a week to decide...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm

I can do that Fab, you bloody genius!
