I will start to prime everyone now: I have prizes to give away! I will have a talk break after Box 13, where I'll start giving them away. But keep in mind if you make a donation of at least $20 today, you can get a book or a CD! More details to follow!

Item one up for grabs: "Radio Rewrite" by Steve Reich! This is a reworking of his favorite Radiohead pieces, the only time Steve Reich has ever re-worked any kind of pop music. A very unusual and unique release! This can be yours if you make a donation today!

Hey Austin!
Long time Reich fan. I've never had any interest in Radiohead, but if anything could get me to listen to 'em, that would be it.

Good Hello, Ellen!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:06pm
Austin Rich:

Yes, Mr. Fab, this actually caught my interest, too, and I've never really cared much about Radiohead. It doesn't sound anything like Radiohead, so that's one thing going for it.

Ellen Lovebug:

'I'm Waiting for My Man" is now in my head

I guess having Dan Holiday hired by a young boy wasn't enough, so they decided to have an even younger girl hire him.

Two mommies? wow, what a progressive show!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:08pm
Austin Rich:

In 1948, it was probably going to be "unusual" no matter how it turns out. (There's a very comical "coda" that sort of dwells on that.)

I love those two Radiohead songs. That sounds really intriguing

Mr. Fab: if you made a donation last week, and you wanted to make a supplemental donation so you were over that $20 mark this week, would that qualify you for a prize?

I have to get back to editing, I donated $10 last week, I have been off Unemployment since Sept 2021 and just get by on a few things that I get to edit for other people, so I had been planning on just the $10. I'll let you know if I change my mind on that

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:48pm
Austin Rich:

The sound is a little "meh" this week. I did my best to clean it up, and EQ it a little so it sounds a little better.

We're lucky that these exist at all, in some cases.

Thanks Ellen! Any little amount is totally appreciated! And: Thank you!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:50pm
Austin Rich:

Again, there are more... uhm... "accents" that are not exactly authentic, and are certainly problematic. But I do appreciate that by listening to this show, this is probably some of the only exposure to any exotic locations and cultures that people in 1947 got, so I'm sure they thought they were being somewhat progressive at the time.

Thanks, Scott, and you're welcome, Austin

Austin, I just was thinking earlier with the "child" voice. You don't hear kids "baby talk" so much anymore. Parents tend to talk to them like they're almost human nowadays.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:00pm
Austin Rich:

In hour two, we are opening up two more prizes for any potential donors! Here's the first one:

"Psychedelic Sex Kicks - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack - CD + DVD"

This prize FLEW off the prize list last week, the moment it was announced. It's a soundtrack to some "unusual" films from the Sexploitation film scene, and the DVD includes some video clips from choice scenes. The soundtrack is astonishing, and a great slice of music that you just don't find in film anymore. This CD + DVD package is yours, for a donation of $20!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:03pm
Austin Rich:

@Scott67: I'm with you on the "baby talk." I think adults just talk, and kids are smarter than us anyway, so they pick it up pretty quick.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:06pm
Austin Rich:

Our second prize for hour two is my personal favorite, and one that I wish I could keep:

"The Musical Touch of Leonard Nimoy: His fascinating musical career and discography." This book covers the musical life of Leonard Nimoy, including magazine articles and photos, stories about recording and making his albums, and other tid-bits about his career in music. (I'm sure Spock comes up from time to time.) Over 100 pages of details about SPOCK-TUNES. If you are a Nimoy fan, this is a MUST HAVE book.

I'm thinking about ordering a copy from the publisher, but it's a little more than what you would have to pay if you wanted this as your prize. Just make a donation of $20, and this book is yours!
Avatar 7:06pm
Mr Fab:

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:08pm

Just got your donation, @Scott67! That's very generous! Thanks!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:11pm
Austin Rich:

I'm thinking Kang doesn't make an appearance in this episode, either.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
Austin Rich:

Every time there's a fight sequence in a radio program, I think of that scene from "A Christmas Story," where Ralphie is listening to Little Orphan Annie, and it's just a bunch of random noises and SFX for a long, long time for most of the episode.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm
Scott67:

No worries Austin, not much but it's gotta go round the Jungle. As far as I can spread it anyway.
