Sometimes overlooked is that Jamaica and Ireland have a shared consciousness as Colonized Island people - looked down upon and treated badly in their own lands .. GreenSleeves and Seanachie records saw that ..
  9:54am Reggae Dan:

Great selections today , thanks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am Gary:

Thank you kindly, Reggae Dan!

Great show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am Gary:

Glad to hear you're enjoying it, RX Scabin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am Zipperhead7:

Hard to believe "Israelites" was a U.S. Top-10 hit in 1969. It sounded unlike anything else on the radio, like a transmission from space
  10:32am Mx?!:

Splish splash, can feel the warmth from swimming in the warm radio waves. Not to mention this green glow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Yes:

This is nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Bon Boudica:

@ Yes yes, yes it is!
  10:34am rx scabin:

There was a time in my life [five years of it] where i almos exclusively listened to reggae.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Gary:

Listening and loving the music.
Riddim go farward!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Gary:

Hop aboard, Stanley!
  10:44am Mx?!:

@zipperhead: I always thought that song peaked on the charts earlier like 65 66! It just sounded more like those years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am chresti:

A very young Big Youth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Gary:

Little Youth?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Bon Boudica:

Blessings y'all! I'm really enjoying this wonderful Solid Foundation set by Gary Sullivan on this chilly, pre-spring Sunday morning! Can't wait till the Pop-up is posted; I'm already planning on listening to this playlist again later. Thanks Gary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am Gary:

Thank you kindly, and a bon bon matin to you!
  10:49am Joe:

Hi. Enjoying the music in San Diego. Am confused about the program schedule, but I think I figured it out. Jeff is the regular guy for this time slot, right? But Gary has been filling in, and when he does the time slot is called Solid Foundation, not Reggae Schoolroom. Yes?
  10:49am rx scabin:

Taking it back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am Gary:

You got it, Joe!
  10:51am Joe:

OK, that's easy!

Bridge Over Troubled Water, 1969.
  11:01am Mx?!:

If you think about it Gary is the perfect fill in because every structure needs a solid foundation and that is what the Reggae School room rest on. The perfect combination!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Gary:

Ah, yes, of course ... hi, Ceolacanth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Gary:

No, I'm the perfect fill-in because I'm less filling, more fill-in
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am coelacanth∅:

well you were 1/2way there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am WR:

Back in da house.
  11:10am Mx?!:

Da dj that doesn't fill you up audibly.
  11:11am rx scabin:

That last song!
  11:15am Mx?!:

To be more specific, the DJ that doesn't fill you up on mic audibly. Is what I think Gary was trying to convey
Avatar 11:18am HyperDose:

Gary throwing down the gauntlet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am Greg from ZONE 5:

FYAH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Polly.:

Hi Gary and fellow students! really enjoying the lessons today. it reminded me of a tune i havent heard in years on the u toob
www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Gary:

Hola, Polly!
  11:26am Mx?!:

Or maybe I was just reading too deep into it, it was just a quip I suppose. Oh well no matter.
Avatar 11:26am Mike W:

My guess is that this is not a popular thing to say out loud, but the fill-ins are so much better
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am chresti:

Gary Sullivan is no slouch when it comes to Jamaican music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am chresti:

*or any other music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Gary:

You can't see me now because it's radio but I am slouching I have to admit :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Zipperhead7:

@Mx?!: According to Wikipedia, "Israelites" was recorded in 1968. Interestingly, a stereo mix wasn't released until 1975. Jimmy Cliff's "Wonderful World Beautiful People" was another early hit, released in 1969
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Franco Twinkie:

Gary, PLEASE play Blouse and Skirt!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Franco Twinkie:

I did. But this time around I'm having trouble connecting. So, I'm taking drastic measures. It's working!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am chresti:

I have this Funky Chicken comp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Gary:

I think I lied b/c I don't have it and my copy of this song comes from the DJ Spooky comp oops
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am chresti:

I have it on a cd comp, DJ Spooky had it on a comp? Cool!

now, i just opened it and ...
now it's gone but the old ones are back?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Gary:

Howdy, Travis! I do a show called Bodega Pop on Wednesday nights 7-10 pm EST on the Drummer Stream: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Franco Twinkie:

Coel, when I was in Nepal, I went to this shop where they made thankas, the small devotional paintings people hang in their homes. They're full of the most fantastic small details that tell a story of a spiritual journey. Guess what? All the painters are really young. It's impossible for a person my age to do work that small. The old guys are bumped up to carpets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am coelacanth∅:

nice version! never heard this
  11:53am Travis:

Awesome. I’ll check it out for sure. Trying to figure out to save todays show!
