I'm unable to listen right now, because I'm working [with brain] but I'm certainly going to tune in through the archive! SO EXCITING!
Avatar 1:03pm ironybread:

Hi Jan! Hi and bye Mauly - enjoy it later in the archive!

I'm so glad I woke up!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Zipperhead7:

Hi Ironybread! Interesting to see the LP is on De Wolfe -- we used a lot of their "cleared" music library for ads, etc. when I worked in a recording studio in late '70s

I am blinded by this hyper level of Python fanboy talk!
Avatar 1:32pm ironybread:

Hi Don! Oh my yes, we're in the weeds today
Avatar 1:34pm Don-O:

I assume you'll get around to those A&E dvd and their edits......
Avatar 1:34pm ironybread:

Yes indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm coelacanth∅:

greetings ironybread and puzzlepeople

Hi coel! Lemon curry?
Avatar 1:37pm Don-O:

Ah, sketch that was edited by A&E

Avatar 1:40pm ironybread:

Thanks Howard, yes, that's must-hear listening
Avatar 1:43pm Don-O:

Wow! Catch-as-can in the old BBC!
Avatar 1:43pm HyperDose:

Doctor Who is an even bigger rabbit hole. I've heard of people reaching out to TV stations in Africa to obtain tapes of missing episodes. Some are lost to the sands of time unfortunately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Listener Howard & the Cats:

My mother is convinced that I love Python so much because she remembers watching it in the hospital before I was born. Even though that was before it had been written or filmed.
Avatar 1:45pm Don-O:

Another A&E censored bit!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Zipperhead7:

Pretty tragic how much video is gone. I was at PBS archive in College Park MD many years ago and all their old two-inch videotapes were in boxes on shelves. Basically, you have one shot at digitization -- oxides peel off tape as it's played.
Avatar 1:46pm ironybread:

I'm afraid that an April Fools gag tweet claiming that Dr. Who episodes were being captured as they bounced back from the Oort cloud totally had me going...I so wanted that to be true
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm coelacanth∅:

i remember monty python on television the first time in the us. i was disappointed because my friend George and i already had the albums memorized before 1972 and the tv show changed most of the skits -to i thought less funny.
...probably because having no visuals forces the imagination.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm happymaan:

I'm from Chicago, we happened to taping Dr. Who back when the WTTW signal was hacked/jammed for a minute.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Ike:

Yes, as a Doctor Who fan, that’s quite a big topic. Fortunately *all* those lost Jon Pertwee episodes from the early 70s have been recovered (not always in perfect-looking form, but totally watchable). I think the Canadians are largely responsible. It’s the B&W 60s serials that are decimated, especially the Patrick Troughton eps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm coelacanth∅:

that episode with the topless woman aired uncut on channel 13 in the early 70s as well.
Avatar 1:51pm ironybread:

Hiiiike! The big takeaway is, indeed, to be your own archivist! Keep things because sometimes the makers of those things don't!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Ike:

Weird Dr. Who trivia: for a long time, some color Jon Pertwee only survived in B&W form for some reason. His first serial survived in color, but his second and third were in B&W on PBS stations for a long time. PBS never explained this to viewers. So in the 80s and 90s all the Whovians were utterly baffled that their show started filming in color then went back to B&W! Then color again then B&W again!!! Etc. Eventually they restored the B&W ones to color through some complicated process using color from a slightly fuzzy or distorted North American NTSC copy.
Avatar 1:56pm HyperDose:

@Ike If that's not dedication, I don't know what is. Such a fascinating show. The 10th Doctor is my Doctor, but I adore them all.
Avatar 1:56pm ironybread:

happymaan - is that signal jamming moment on YouTube?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Mr Fab:

We saw a Betty White doc that they showed on what would have been her 100th b-day and it was amazing what footage they were able to find, e.g.: still-brunette White was the star of several pre-Mary Tyler Moore shows that ran a couple/few seasons that had been lost to history. They showed an entire episode of the totally forgotten series "Date With An Angel."

@Mr Fab, I want Bettie Whites Pet Set which was recently re-released.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm happymaan:

Certain episodes of It's Always Sunny are no longer available to stream, I'm so glad I have my own copies.
Avatar 2:04pm ironybread:

See, people? KEEP YOUR VHS TAPES
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm happymaan:

Better yet, digitize them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm happymaan:

I suggest checking out the data hoarders subreddit. Did you catch the above youtube link @ironybread?
Avatar 2:08pm Don-O:

I assume the contents of current Complete US version is exact if not similar to the UK edition? Or will that be covered later in the interview....
Avatar 2:08pm ironybread:

"Ron Obvious" on the Flying Circus Blu-ray is the best-looking material on the whole set - it's absolutely stunning
Avatar 2:09pm ironybread:

happymaan - I can't check out the YouTube link while I'm broadcasting, but I'll check it out the moment the show's over!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm happymaan:

Awesome, I have so many friends who will love this show once it's on the archive!
Avatar 2:13pm HyperDose:

I'm waiting for Sunny to stream the earlier seasons. Only have DVDrips of 1-5. The rest are HD Amazon copies

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm happymaan:

@HD, they did stream the earlier seasons but they are of no better quality and have a watermark added.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm coelacanth∅:

i have hundreds of vhs tapes. i don't know what to do with them. i want to use some for sound pieces but i'll never have time to review them.
Avatar 2:27pm HyperDose:

Handbrake is heaven sent. Still use ImgBurn with RedFox when necessary
Avatar 2:28pm Don-O:

After this, I'm looking forward to see if they can re-construct the complete Gong Show.....
Avatar 2:30pm ironybread:

Paul sent me a link to a news report from when the color recovery technique he's talking about was used on an old episode of Dad's Army: youtu.be...

Watch out ironybread, you'll make happymaan start salivating talking like that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm happymaan:

Oh for sure @HD, I'm just not gonna start falling down a youtube hole during this show. Having to listen to a 3 hour show mid day wasn't on my schedule. Gotta get stuff done right after this show.
