  1:02pm Kat in Chicago:

There were guitars in the box but I hear he sold them and bought turntables
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm DJ Babs:

Hello All. Luckily I also did just trade in my guitar for turntables. I am also not ashamed to say I made a Yaz record in 2001
Avatar 1:03pm ironybread:

Hi Kat! There was a head in the box too - a Marshall stack head

Hi Buddy! How'd last night's shindig go? I had to do my radio show so missed it.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Zipperhead7:

I had a really nice turntable. But my cousin played a Bon Jovi record on it and the tone arm went limp for good.
  1:12pm Vrillon:

Hi, IB and All ---newish listener//first time LIVE! As Young Mr. Grace would say, "You're all doing rather Well!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Jan Turkenburg:

In 2021 WR was always present (together with MHLee) at my old st. time slot, setting his alarm clock to listen! I mean you have deserved some credit!
Avatar 1:13pm ironybread:

Hi Vrillon! Welcome to Hipstertown!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Jan Turkenburg:

I probably meant 'earned'
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Otis:

Lorem Ipsturum present! Hello Puzzle Boxers.
  1:16pm Vrillon:

Is this the same Scanner that would sample police scanners and other things?
Avatar 1:17pm ironybread:

Hi Otis!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Otis:

Hi hi and fantastic about the show extending Ironybread!
Avatar 1:18pm ironybread:

Yes indeed Vrillon, that's Robin "Scanner" Rimbaud. His first CD is a must-have www.discogs.com...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Derek Westerholm:

Vrillon, welcome to the WFMU live chat! It's so much fun! Great to have you here!
Avatar 1:21pm Buddy Runyan:

Rich, I had to cancel my performance as my heart condition worsened. I was going to talk about XBOX consoles catching on fire, but most of those are hoaxes, anyway! Mark, Jon and SUE-C were great, and the show was streamed on Twitch. I left a few encouraging words in the Twitch chat room.
Avatar 1:23pm ironybread:

Oh dear, Buddy, please do take care of yourself.
  1:24pm Rich in Kitchengton:

oh wow, Buddy!
I'm sorry to hear! Hope you're on the mend soon!
  1:25pm Kat in Chicago:

Aw Buddy, hope you are feeling better soon
  1:26pm Rich doingdisheston:

Scanner. Another recent Bandcamp acquisition I've completely forgotten about. I bought his recent retrospective compilation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm DJ Babs:

Vrillion I'm just catching up on the chat and I VERY MUCH appreciate your Are You Being Served reference! :-)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Ike:

Greetings, creatures of the daylight!
Avatar 1:30pm ironybread:

Hiiiiiiiiiiiike
  1:31pm Vrillon:

Thanks DW! WFMU/Sheena is now my other favorite freeform radio station along with WZRD-Chicago. (Negativland used to do a 4 hour set every Saturday, once upon a time in the 90's) (wink DJ Babs!)
Avatar 1:33pm HyperDose:

Nothing worse than a lossy master. To heck with transcodes!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Ike:

That hipster Jell-O track was once a WFMU classic as I recall. Trying to remember who played it a lot… SM Ken maybe… Irwin maybe… hmm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm DJ Babs:

OMG is this Roxanne that speeds up evertime he says Roxanne IT IS!!! YES!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Zipperhead7:

Faster! Faster! Faster!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm DJ Babs:

Avatar 1:36pm Buddy Runyan:

Thank you, ironybread, Rich and Kat!
Avatar 1:37pm HyperDose:

Ahh this is where Kid Cudi got that sample from
Avatar 1:37pm ironybread:

Okay so Todd left demons off his "sounds of the studio" list, oh well
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:37pm chresti:

Hi ironybread and puzzlers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Feldy:

Nice cover :) Hi all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Mr Fab:

“How To Speak Hip” is my favorite spoken word/comedy album. I’ve played it more than most music albums.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:38pm chresti:

Take the acetate first
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:40pm chresti:

Gosh, I missed a lot 9 minutes in!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:40pm WR:

Starting 1/2 hour earlier.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:42pm chresti:

Hi Feldy!
WR, oof, and here I was, patiently listening to bandcamp.
Avatar 1:42pm HyperDose:

So much flip-flopping, what is this an IHOP?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:43pm chresti:

*Severed heads on BC
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Derek Westerholm:

Favouriting "Watch Flipper"
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:44pm chresti:

Is this a new start time or a one time time?
Avatar 1:45pm ironybread:

Hi chresti! New start time, new show length! From now on I'm on Saturdays from 10am-noon Pacific.
  1:45pm Kat in Chicago:

Did he say “Rabelaisian men”? There’s an adjective you don’t hear in a song every day.
Avatar 1:45pm ironybread:

Hi Feldy!
Avatar 1:46pm ironybread:

Kat, Mr. Prieboy is a very unique and wonderful person and his adjectival choices rule.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:47pm chresti:

Super bonus time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm DJ Babs:

This is such a fine mashup. I do love a good mashup still.
Avatar 1:48pm ironybread:

Mark "Go Home Prods" Vidler is one of the great mashup artists
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:48pm fred:

"Karma in the life" is part of my test set at work
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Zipperhead7:

Mark Vidler is the best. Look for "Radio Houston" -- Whitney Houston wailing on top of Radiohead
Avatar 1:49pm ironybread:

Hi Fred!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Mr Fab:

Don-O just played a Go Home Productions Beatles mashup yesterday.
  1:52pm Kat in Chicago:

I like how the Tubes song goes with the answering machine message
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:54pm fred:

@Zipperhead7: I think my favorites are the Sex Pistols/Madonna ones (Ray of gob and Submusic). Mashups confuse genre classifier AIs delightfully
Avatar 1:54pm ironybread:

Segues like that are why I get paid the big bucks, Kat
Avatar 1:56pm HyperDose:

I grew up on UPN 9 here in Jersey!
Avatar 1:59pm ironybread:

"Variations" available here: rwm.macba.cat...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Zipperhead7:

Copyright infringement is the sincerest form of flattery.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Ike:

Ha ha @ New Flipper! Ah, the good old days of first-run syndicated dramas. In rural Maryland there was a crappy ABC affiliate that would constantly shuffle Star Trek TNG and DS9 around to different timeslots. Sunday at 12 noon? Could be! Tuesday at 10 if NYPD Blue was too controversial or had a dude’s butt in it that week? Sure, maybe! Saturday at 11:30 p.m. against Doctor Who on PBS? Definitely maybe!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:06pm fred:

This Variations series looks fascinating. But when can I find the time for it?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Rich in Washington:

Variations is brilliant. Hats off to Wobbly.
  2:08pm Kat in Chicago:

I’m going to do an hour of messed up CD music for my show one of these days
  2:09pm Kat in Chicago:

And I totally need to hear this whole Variations series
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Mr Fab:

I bought an album by Oval back in the day, "94 Diskont," that made great use of skipping CDs.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Otis:

That Oval album, great one Fab.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Rich in Washington:

You can hear the entire Variations series, in addition to Jon's similarly brilliant series Women in Electronic Music at UbuWeb:
www.ubu.com...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Rich in Washington:

I've never tried but I wonder if it's possible to deliberately scratch or score CDs to artistic effect.
Avatar 2:15pm ironybread:

#TheTruth #TheWhat?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:15pm fred:

I wonder if Stockhausen's Hymnen would qualify as sampling or plunderphonics. Not quite, I guess
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Zipperhead7:

I remember seeing a story on a guy who could guess 90% of the time what symphony was on a record just by looking at the grooves
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:16pm chresti:

Lucky Dragons did something like that when we saw them in the mid 2000s, Rich.
  2:18pm Kat in Chicago:

Thanks for the link, Rich! I came in so late to much of this, or had only limited awareness. This is exactly what I need.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Rich in Washington:

I got to where I could visually tell where music vs talking is on an audio waveform from years of editing syndicated news talk shows for local airplay at my station.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Rich in Washington:

and what my ums and uhs look like from recording and editing a 'community calendar' segment for same station.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:20pm fred:

@Rich: I just watched Sisters With Transistors this afternoon
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Rich in Washington:

That's really good, isn't it?
Avatar 2:20pm ironybread:

hells yeah, a great documentary fred
  2:24pm Kat in Chicago:

I have been pre-recording my shows during the pandemic and I always check my mic breaks on the recording, occasionally editing. So I know what stuff looks like on an Audacity waveform really well at this point.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:25pm Zipperhead7:

This is really great. I used to show "The Amen Break" to classes
www.youtube.com...
Avatar 2:26pm ironybread:

I'm afraid I obsess over the edits in my own show a little more than should be considered healthy or normal
  2:26pm Kat in Chicago:

I thought SWT was a bit dismissive of Wendy Carlos but otherwise it’s super good
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:28pm fred:

One of my (many) bosses is part of an ensemble that works for/with Eliane Radigue on her Occam Ocean series
  2:29pm Kat in Chicago:

Oh wow fred!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Rich in Washington:

A few years ago, I was repackaging my KBOO shows to run on a streaming station out of Ohio, so took the opportunity to clean up my mic breaks, eliminating brain farts, ums, uhs, etc. - but I save all the latter on one audio file and eventually had like four solid minutes of uhs, ums, stammers, etc.
It was very therapeutic.
  2:31pm Kat in Chicago:

LOL Rich! Are you going to share that with your Cratedigger listeners someday?
Avatar 2:32pm ironybread:

Beautiful, Rich! It's like Proctor's "Yale Distorts" tape edit piece from "Dear Friends"
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:32pm fred:

@Rich I think there was a project called "language removal service" (or something like that) that did that with speeches
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:34pm chresti:

This makes me think of "Havana Moon" by Chuck Berry.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Zipperhead7:

Current fave calypso is "Song of the Shrimp" by Elvis . . . whose birthday is today
Avatar 2:34pm ironybread:

Why what an AMAZING COINCIDENCE chresti
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:35pm chresti:

Ha! What do you know!
  2:36pm Kat in Chicago:

Oh yes fred, I’ve heard Language Removal Services on ‘FMU before. I forget what show(s).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Mr Fab:

I made a (long-lost) mash up of Nat Cole’s “Calypso blues” with Giorgio Moroder’s “midnight express Chase.” If anyone wants to try it.
Avatar 2:40pm Cp304:

Good listening today while working Fuji. It’s making driving job to job down these ice covered hollows in a 2wd van much more intense
Avatar 2:41pm Cp304:

Fab you know I’m down! Will probably be after 5 before I can check it tho.
Avatar 2:41pm ironybread:

Hi Cp! Remember to brake on the straightaways!
Avatar 2:42pm Cp304:

Lol
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:44pm chresti:

That first Louie Louie is a sweet gem.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:46pm chresti:

My ex was in a band that did Louie Louie.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Zipperhead7:

This music fires my blood
Avatar 2:50pm ironybread:

Fun fact: The FBI spend ten years and close to a billion dollars trying to determine the lyrics to "Louie Louie". Here's a lyric transcript from their final report:

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:51pm fred:

Louie Louie is a challenge for the Karaoke industry
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:52pm chresti:

Why? They thought there was a hidden message?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Franco Twinkie:

This is beyond great. Thanks Taylor!
Avatar 2:53pm ironybread:

Hi Franco! One more to go!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Vrillon:

Is that a crypto-key to a numbers station?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Zipperhead7:

Yes, the lyrics were purportedly filthy. Iggy's version on Metallic KO. HA! I KNEW you would play this!!!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:54pm fred:

I do have coworkers who research lyrics transcription. I should suggest this song
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:54pm chresti:

I had a job in the 80s for the patent office deciphering logos and assigning codes like that for a data base.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Franco Twinkie:

Metallic 'Ko YESSSS!!!!!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Rich in Washington:

The Dave Marsh book about Louie Louie is fantastic and highly recommended.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Mr Fab:

"Each night, at 10, I do her again." Allegedly.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:56pm chresti:

*Trademarks, that is, that often had abstract logos
  2:56pm Kat in Chicago:

A whole book about Louie Louie?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:56pm fred:

@Mr Fab: Is the Trash Cult show a thing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Franco Twinkie:

Also, "I feel my bone in her hair" Really?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Rich in Washington:

Metallic KO is amazing - the whole show just baiting a bunch of bikers into assaulting them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Mr Fab:

Not yet, Fred. Your future hosts got to sort out the technical stuff before I add them to the schedule. But I certainly hope to do so soon.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Rich in Washington:

Indeed, Kat. It's also got a great history of Pacific NW music, The Spanish Castle (made famous by Jimi Hendrix) and other ephemera.
Avatar 2:59pm HyperDose:

Thanks, Taylor!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:59pm WR:

Thanks for the sounds Ironybread! Onward.
