I admit that I’ll probably only watch it again once more in my life at most, but it was wonderful to be able to witness a huge chunk of time the The Beatles spent working (and playing) as they were nearing the end of their collective existence. In fact, should the supposed 18 hour director’s cut ever become available, I’d watch it.

I think the earlier albums suffer from the common mistake of the CD era, which is “we have all this extra time on this new format, let’s use it”, when a good 40 min is all you really need for a single album.

	11:37am DavidL: Wow. Fascinating, yes. Good, nope. I may be nuts, but I think I heard the bleed of a normal-register lead vocal take at a couple points. Like a guide or first take recorded with the band tracks maybe? Which could indicate that the falsetto was a “hey, why don’t we try this?” overdub. Who knows… will have to give another listen.

	11:38am Frank In Queens: Eddy, maybe after “Raffles” but it picks up after Dead Letter Chorus. I first heard the album without Heavy Comfort, so perhaps that’s how I still hear the album in my memory.
	11:38am gf2002: A hot take on "Get Back". As a diehard Beatles obsessive I love seeing the footage and hearing that audio without all the crew's slates and cues as the bootlegs featured. But judging from reactions it seems like there is a bit of a whitewash of the actual history and what happened especially at Twickenham for those first 3 weeks before Harrison bailed out. According to Lennon, Harrison, and George Martin among others, the sessions were miserable. The band only recorded in the evening, and here they were showing up at 10am or whatever to try to make music. It was only after George Harrison called Billy Preston in and demanded that the sessions move to Apple's studios that things got back on track, and you can see everyone's mood increase dramatically, even though there were issues with "Magic Alex's" equipment at Apple before they could actually record. It's important for fans to know the whole story and not just the McCartney version and suggesting how much fun the whole thing was. Shortly after the rooftop concert they called to ask George Martin (and Geoff Emerick) to come back and do an album like they used to do, that speaks volumes.
	11:38am gd0: Was/am a fan of the Four Seasons hit singles. DTT isn't one of them. Even as a kid, it was obvious to me that DTT was the 4S, and that it was also a bad joke. A real bad joke. And I'm not one to think of Dylan as a sacred cow. Just a wrong turn, nothing more, nothing less.

	♥ 11:39am Hughie Considine: I was puzzled by the response among some working musicians who scoffed at the idea that watching Paul pull a song out of thin air was miraculous -- because, they said, this is how songs are written, and always have been, with fleeting ideas that just come to you. It's an everyday occurrence, the public just never witnessed it. I don't see how that negates the miracle part, and the response struck me as almost bizarre.
	♥ 11:40am Baja Joe: Played for my nephew Led Zeppelin's "How Many More Times" loud in my car during a road trip. Before this ride, he never thought much about the band. Created an instant Led Zep fan. Mission accomplished. Next mission, expose him to all the great blues artists Led Zep "borrowed" from.

	11:43am Kent: I remember laughing at this version when it came on the radio. Can you believe it reached #12 on Billboard?! Were they trying to be funny, or were they being passive aggressive because the counter culture music was crushing them???

	11:44am gf2002: George Harrison was very passive aggressive during those sessions. He had just been in the US hanging out with Dylan, The Band, and other notable artists at the end of '68, and was being respected and asked for his opinions, and got energized to write new songs and do different things on the guitar. Then he shows up at an airplane hangar with cameras rolling and is instructed how to play and has his songs openly mocked on camera. When the tensions got to be too much, he bailed out and brought Billy Preston into the mix just as he had brought Clapton into the White Album sessions which immediately got the others back on track instead of arguing and sniping at each other
	11:46am clarke: i have't seen Get Back, yet - but, george was having real issues with being paul's "little brother" for a while, by then. it just came to a head when he insisted on trying his brand-new Wah pedal on EVERY song!
	11:46am clarke: and luckily was talked out of having wah on every song!!

	♥ 12:08pm JG: Thanks Michael for mentioning the new Elvis box set. I was unaware of it. I just listened to the track of Gordon Lightfoot's Early morning Rain. The version he did after the audience had left the amphitheater in Aloha form Hawaii has always been the most beautiful to me, more so than a previous studio release. Version on this new set may change my mind. It is gorgeous. He was an awesome singer. Duh.

	♥ 12:11pm Handy Haversack: Correction: thought Goblin was dying. Bugbear has been fine. clarke, Goblin ate SOMEthing that lodged in him. Vomiting, congestion, lassitude, pain. We thought there might need to be emergency ultrasound and surgery, but it started moving after a couple of days. I think he's almost entirely recovered. His energy is finally back today (I have the scratches to prove it!). He's still sniffly, so I won't be fully relaxed until that goes away, but he's doing so much better. We really thought things might get really bad. And Bugbear finally seems to be getting over his "nonrecognition aggression," too.

Got me thinking about what Pseu Braun said on her show Thursday and how young Juniper “gets it”: it’s really a musicians movie. Check her out for the details. She motivated me to start watching and BOOM it was nine hours later and I only wanted MORE. Two quick takes: new respect for Sir Paul and a better understanding of WHY George wanted out. Whilst the director (Orson Welles alleged kid I forget his name) was discussing the Libyan excursion w the lads you can plainly see that when Paul talks (endlessly really) or John talks it’s rapt attention. But once George starts chiming in the guy simply blows him off and just talks over them.

	12:37pm gf2002: Fender made a serious push to get a Beatles endorsement and sent them all that brand new gear that showed up in the Get Back film. That included George's rosewood Telecaster which was custom built and flown over to him personally, unless I'm mistaken they bought a seat for the guitar to fly it over to George personally. Then George gave it away to Delaney Bramlett within that same year...

	12:47pm gf2002: I saw John Mayall live in '92 at a Penn's Landing blues fest in Philly, his guitarist was Coco Montoya at that time. Mayall was more known for blues harp and being like an apprenticeship for British blues guitarists in the 60's. The ultimate Mayall album to grab is "Bluesbreakers" aka The Beano Album from '66 with Eric Clapton playing some amazing blues guitar on a sunburst Les Paul. Mayall also had a live album from '69 or so that showcased his harp playing

It was like an apprenticeship for young British blues guitarists to play in Mayall's "Bluesbreakers" before joining bigger bands, apparently Mayall had the largest or one of the largest collections of American blues records in the UK at that time in the 60's and musicians used to go to his place to listen and learn. He could play a good blues harp! I like that element of his records better than the vocals.

	12:53pm DG: A few years ago we went to see Buddy Guy do one of those free summer shows downtown (NYC) & Mayall was the opening act. I knew some of his albums but thought he was mostly a slow-blues playing guy. Turned out he had a young band & was great, did a varied set, played keys & was actually better than Guy, who seemed to be more into seeing how profane he could be.

	9:43am Bob: Day late as usual. Loved every second of Get Back but agree that it was a whitewash. How come Paul didn't reverse the songwriting credits on the film as he's done elsewhere? Weird. The famous guitar argument between Paul and George was included but seemed toned down given the audio mx and camera shot choice. Jackson (or whoever) made an obvious choice to redeem Yoko and that's fine with me. There was lots of footage of them working without Yoko in the shot and her "singing" bits were clearly showing the humor and experimentation of it. Jackson could obviously have cut it in a completely different way. Loved it all. And I don't know if the 4 Seasons record is great or terrible but I hate it. Cheers.

In fact, should the supposed 18 hour director’s cut ever become available, I’d watch it.

I think the earlier albums suffer from the common mistake of the CD era, which is “we have all this extra time on this new format, let’s use it”, when a good 40 min is all you really need for a single album.

	11:37am DavidL: Wow. Fascinating, yes. Good, nope. I may be nuts, but I think I heard the bleed of a normal-register lead vocal take at a couple points. Like a guide or first take recorded with the band tracks maybe? Which could indicate that the falsetto was a “hey, why don’t we try this?” overdub. Who knows… will have to give another listen.
	♥ 11:37am Handy Haversack: When do we get the six-hour documentary that's just what members of the Foo Fighters think about stuff.
	11:38am Frank In Queens: Eddy, maybe after “Raffles” but it picks up after Dead Letter Chorus. I first heard the album without Heavy Comfort, so perhaps that’s how I still hear the album in my memory.
	11:38am gf2002: A hot take on "Get Back". As a diehard Beatles obsessive I love seeing the footage and hearing that audio without all the crew's slates and cues as the bootlegs featured. But judging from reactions it seems like there is a bit of a whitewash of the actual history and what happened especially at Twickenham for those first 3 weeks before Harrison bailed out. According to Lennon, Harrison, and George Martin among others, the sessions were miserable. The band only recorded in the evening, and here they were showing up at 10am or whatever to try to make music. It was only after George Harrison called Billy Preston in and demanded that the sessions move to Apple's studios that things got back on track, and you can see everyone's mood increase dramatically, even though there were issues with "Magic Alex's" equipment at Apple before they could actually record. It's important for fans to know the whole story and not just the McCartney version and suggesting how much fun the whole thing was. Shortly after the rooftop concert they called to ask George Martin (and Geoff Emerick) to come back and do an album like they used to do, that speaks volumes.
	11:38am gd0: Was/am a fan of the Four Seasons hit singles. DTT isn't one of them. Even as a kid, it was obvious to me that DTT was the 4S, and that it was also a bad joke. A real bad joke. And I'm not one to think of Dylan as a sacred cow. Just a wrong turn, nothing more, nothing less.

	♥ 11:39am Hughie Considine: I was puzzled by the response among some working musicians who scoffed at the idea that watching Paul pull a song out of thin air was miraculous -- because, they said, this is how songs are written, and always have been, with fleeting ideas that just come to you. It's an everyday occurrence, the public just never witnessed it. I don't see how that negates the miracle part, and the response struck me as almost bizarre.

He had just been in the US hanging out with Dylan, The Band, and other notable artists at the end of '68, and was being respected and asked for his opinions, and got energized to write new songs and do different things on the guitar. His energy is finally back today (I have the scratches to prove it!). He's still sniffly, so I won't be fully relaxed until that goes away, but he's doing so much better. Got me thinking about what Pseu Braun said on her show Thursday and how young Juniper “gets it”: it’s really a musicians movie. Check her out for the details. She motivated me to start watching and BOOM it was nine hours later and I only wanted MORE. Two quick takes: new respect for Sir Paul and a better understanding of WHY George wanted out. Whilst the director (Orson Welles alleged kid I forget his name) was discussing the Libyan excursion w the lads you can plainly see that when Paul talks (endlessly really) or John talks it’s rapt attention. But once George starts chiming in the guy simply blows him off and just talks over them.

Mayall was more known for blues harp and being like an apprenticeship for British blues guitarists in the 60's. The ultimate Mayall album to grab is "Bluesbreakers" aka The Beano Album from '66 with Eric Clapton playing some amazing blues guitar on a sunburst Les Paul. Mayall also had a live album from '69 or so that showcased his harp playing

It was like an apprenticeship for young British blues guitarists to play in Mayall's "Bluesbreakers" before joining bigger bands, apparently Mayall had the largest or one of the largest collections of American blues records in the UK at that time in the 60's and musicians used to go to his place to listen and learn. He could play a good blues harp! I like that element of his records better than the vocals.

	9:43am Bob: Day late as usual. Loved every second of Get Back but agree that it was a whitewash. How come Paul didn't reverse the songwriting credits on the film as he's done elsewhere? Weird. The famous guitar argument between Paul and George was included but seemed toned down given the audio mx and camera shot choice. Jackson (or whoever) made an obvious choice to redeem Yoko and that's fine with me. There was lots of footage of them working without Yoko in the shot and her "singing" bits were clearly showing the humor and experimentation of it. Jackson could obviously have cut it in a completely different way. Loved it all. And I don't know if the 4 Seasons record is great or terrible but I hate it. Cheers.
