Pumpkin soup is good too.

I once insulted a person regarding their home made pumpkin soup. I was the coordinator for a pot luck Thanksgiving gathering. You know, find out what everyone is planning to bring so we didn't have 10 bean casseroles and no potatoes, whatever. One friend said she planned to bring pumpkin soup. Although a life long lover of pumpkin pie, at that point in my young life (many many years ago) pumpkin soup seemed strange. I rather aggressively tried to encourage her to make something else, claiming it would be embarrassing to her when no one liked it, but she was firm in her resolve to bring her soup.

The soup was a big success and there wasn't enough to meet the demand. She gave me smug smile and didn't rub it in too much.

The first time I encountered pumpkin soup was in the Moosewood Cookbook in the 70's...it seemed very strange and exotic. Their eggplant soup recipe is a lot of work (as I remember...it's been awhile) but so good.

Internet horror story of the day-my older daughter, and actor and poster of videos on Instagram and TicToc (about 1K followers on TicToc) had her Instagram account hacked early Friday morning (around 2 AM) by some hacker, likely from Russia. He locked up her account, said he'd delete all her content unless she made a video telling all her followers how she made all this money investing in a BitCoin scheme (which would go in his pocket, of course). She called the police station near her in upper Manhattan, they sent 2 officers to her apartment at 3 AM who face timed with the hacker, took information, tried to soothe her (they were very nice), and left. She did manage to get her account back today (with the help of a friend at Facebook-if you don't know someone, it's actually not easy to pull off), and managed to avoid making this video. But, in that day, the Hacker posted on the site that she'd made a fortune in Bitcoin, with a link for her friends to get in on the great deal, and, unfortunately, one of her friends fell for it and lost $500.
There are really nasty folks out there (when he Facetimed my daughter, she says he cackled like the bad guy in a B movie-she was tempted to tell him he needs a new writer).

The Moosewood restaurant is in Ithaca NY, where my daughter went to college. We went there a few times when we visited-weren't too impressed, have to say.

Gina do you recall the name of the restaurant?Just got in though hadn't gone out until 6pm... It's always crazy on Hudson Street, since all of the outdoor dining sheds have been in place.. incredibly noisy, sidewalks impassible.. sometimes it feels like the whole city is out of control.. Certainly it isn't too concerned about the residents to put it politely..
