Delphine! Welcome blast of '90s drum & bass to open the show w/ that Saint cover!
Avatar 9:06am TDK60:

Good morning Delphine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am Webhamster Henry:

Hi Delphine!
  9:06am Irene:

Delphine!!! So nice to have you filling in for Trouble.

Hello Delphine and unTroubled listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am Handy Haversack:

Morning, Delphine and all the Blue Ones. Sounding great!
Avatar 9:06am HyperDose:

Really chuffed to be here. Salutations, Delphine! ☕🎹
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am steveo:

Wonderful to hear your show, Delphine.

& RIP Lonnie 😢
  9:09am ?:

Delphine Dolphin blue and purple.
Avatar 9:10am PKNY:

I was fortunate enough to see Dr. Lonnie perform with Lou Donaldson at the Village Vanguard about 20 years ago. I can still feel the bass from the organ, RIP
  9:12am jameson 57:

any maceo parker on tap today?
Avatar 9:13am TDK60:

PKNY - I noticed the Village Vanguard is open again.
  9:17am ?:

@jameson 57: if maceo parker is a beer there is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am StringOFperils:

Hello Delphine; sounds fantastic, this'll be great!
  9:17am Irene:

Ooh, that’s good news, TDK60! I just drove past the Village Vanguard Tuesday night and wondered if it was open again. Love that venue!
Avatar 9:21am TDK60:

Morning Irene. The VV is an Institution with a capital 'I'!
Avatar 9:21am delphine:

Hola! Getting settled...
  9:21am jameson 57:

juana molina? no thanks, just had one.
Avatar 9:22am TDK60:

DJ Delphine, it's cheating to play Juana Molina, because that immediately makes me take notice of a show, because it's so good. Not fair.
  9:22am ?:

hello dj delphine and listeners. enjoying the show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Handy Haversack:

TDK60: Keep an eye out for me and K8 tomorrow evening in the park. We're planning on bringing K8's parents, who are in town from Seattle.
Avatar 9:23am delphine:

I love her
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am steveo:

bonus juana; j57 is a phophet :)
  9:24am jan:

Great sounds this AM! and just the sonic purge I needed after reading the NY Times obituary for Sue Thompson and having Norman stuck in my head
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am nathan:

i think Juana Molina has topped it several times since, but something about those bleeps and bloops on Segundo still draws me back a lot
  9:25am ?:

Well Molina was definitely on tap, now Delphine just needs to draw up some Maceo Parker
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am StringOFperils:

Norman is possibly my earliest memory of radio.
  9:26am Zephyr:

Hi Delphine. Just wanted to say hi. It’s the 80’s graffiti guy Zephyr here. So glad you’re on my fav radio station today! If you ever change your mind about that watercolor let me know. In the meantime it’s well preserved in my house not far from the station. Peace!
Avatar 9:27am TDK60:

Handy, Okay! Not sure if I'll have a WFMU T-shirt that night (maybe I should). I may try to get there early.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am karlward:

Wow, very different rhythmic take on "Epistrophy," this song is just a fountain of amazing jazz rhythms, so many versions out there that approach it totally differently.
  9:28am Irene:

Couple of good VV shows up in October— Eric Harland, and a duo with Fred Hersch and Julian Lage!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am karlward:

Who is the drummer on this track? This is amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

Julian Lage is just impossibly good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am karlward:

Blue Note says the drummer on Breathe was Johnathan Blake
  9:30am Irene:

Woods, I think Julian has a new album out momentarily. Agreed— incredibly talented and a super sweet guy.
Avatar 9:31am TDK60:

I go through my days, wondering if Juana Molina, being an Argentine, drinks yerba mate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

@Irene Thanks for the info. Yeah, I've seen videos of that guy talking and then playing stuff and it just seems so effortless. I love his album with Nels Cline.
Avatar 9:34am Rev. Turnip Druid:

no flips, no flops.
Avatar 9:34am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 9:42am HyperDose:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

Dang, this Alice Coltrane is fine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am steveo:

that's my new thing, i wear my running shorts & t-shirt with a sports coat...
Avatar 9:45am βrian:

I've got white Grampa sneakers that I let Little Human have at with colored markers.
Avatar 9:47am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Thanks to pandemic/WFH, have worn a collared shirt ONCE in a year and a half, or something.

that once was . strange .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Handy Haversack:

I am wearing one for the first time today! Since there are no visitors allowed in our offices now and everyone's door is closed, I decided to see if anyone would say anything if I just stuck to WFMU T-shirts for the three days a week I'm here. I put on a western shirt today because a lovely colleague is having her retirement celebration this afternoon. Good thing it has snaps. I'm not sure I'm anywhere near ready for buttons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am steveo:

the snaps go well with the hand claps :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am Ken From Hyde Park:

Hello, Delphine and bluebirds!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am Stanley:

Second time for me, Rev and Handy, a client's AGM (second year running) is ongoing today and I have to look 'professional'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Handy Haversack:

steveo, that outfit needs a JAZZ fanny pack to tie it all together!
Avatar 9:52am HyperDose:

This is....splendid!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am steveo:

dang i know i could have had one too but i went swag free this year
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Handy Haversack:

Hell Raiser starts tomorrow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am steveo:

maybe a 2nd chance!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am steveo:

hm, looks like the pledge page is up and JA ain't on it
Avatar 9:57am TDK60:

Just found info on yerba mate: A Mayo Clinic doctor says, don't drink it too hot (149F/65C or hotter), or too often as it has carcinogens. (Leaves from a type of holly tree.) I do drink it often, need to intersperse with tea and coffee I guess...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am alanr:

And then I did not hear birds, but a deeper voice that took me way back in time to WBAI (in its better days, ahem).... and SURPRISE....its Delphine! Nice to hear your voice back on the air again!!
  9:57am Andres:

Good morning! Sounding great!
Also, which is the better Eastwood film, Every Which Way but Loose or Cry Macho?
Avatar 9:57am βrian:

I recall going on a "Hell Raisin" ride years ago in Michigan. It passed through Hell and ran along the Raisin River.
Avatar 9:58am Listening Out There:

The Rest Is Trouble...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Listener Scott:

Listener from your WBAI days here too, Delphine, nice to hear your voice again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Listener Scott:

Also awesome to see graffiti legend Zephyr here--you're one of my favorite old-school writers, man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Handy Haversack:

Ah, the River Raisin -- and its River Rascals™!
Avatar 10:00am Listening Out There:

@Brian: A friend in Ann Arbor has mentioned to me (a cyclist) that there's an annual Ride to Hell, which goes from AA to Hell. The town also has a website hawking amazingly tacky gifts based on the town name...
Avatar 10:02am βrian:

@Listening Out There: And about 5 hours north lies Paradise, Michigan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am steveo:

"As an unincorporated community, Hell has no defined boundaries or population statistics of its own."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am Stanley:

@LoT - is the ride in handcarts?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am Webhamster Henry:

Rockin' the mbira here!
Avatar 10:04am βrian:

@steveo: You'll know it when you get there.
  10:05am hendrix wolfbat:

Really digging your show Delphine! Think I’m gonna have to download this one to my phone. 😃
Avatar 10:08am βrian:

In "Paw Paw for Jesus," Cheryl Trykv makes seeming reference to Hell, which is less than two hours away. But that may be a leap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Handy Haversack:

May also explain why I got my only speeding ticket in Paw Paw.
Avatar 10:13am delphine:

oh HELLO to the BAI listeners :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am StringOFperils:

Reduce your speed when entering Hell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am listener james from westwood:

I traded good knees for my good looks. Which also faded. I got rooked!
  10:15am Andres:

Knees are fine. Musculature in the vicinity not so much.
Avatar 10:15am TDK60:

I listen to WBAI for opinion/news shows, not music so much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am steveo:

fantastic selections; so glad to hear you today
  10:18am prudy:

welcome Delphine...lovely long set...thank you...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Handy Haversack:

I was wondering if you'd play this again, Delphine, what with it being the anniversary of ether's first use as an anesthetic and all. According to Clay, at least.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am WO Town Wick:

Polly Jean's voice is something I dig a lot
  10:21am Angela:

DELPHINE!!! My FIRST GIRL DJ LOVE!!!!! Thank you for being here! Do you have a regular show somewhere. I need more DELPHINE in my life!! [You played my engagement party at the beach a LONG time ago. I never got married!! hahah.] LOVE YOU!! The music is so good!! THANK YOU!! XOXAOXAOXOAXOAOXAO
Avatar 10:22am βrian:

Cause & effect?
Avatar 10:23am TDK60:

One of the greatest starts in music, Not Fade Away. And one of the greatest fade-outs too. No, don't fade away as you fade away. (Don't mind me.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Jason from Houston:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Handy Haversack:

What Jason said!
Avatar 10:24am βrian:

@Handy: Were you heading toward Climax at the time, or the other direction?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

A quick glance at the screen and my brain sez "Maroon 5" instead of "Delta 5"...yikes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

These are people who died died.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am steveo:

Can I lick the crumbs from your table?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Handy Haversack:

Racing toward it, βrian!
  10:26am Lord Jimz:

Too many deaths, ugh...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Jason from Houston:

Avatar 10:27am Juli:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yeah 'BCN I reckon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

@RRNov63: I used to love that show oedipus did on Sunday nights. Nocturnal Emissions, I think it was called.

thanks for the Gang Delphine. was lucky to see them at the Channel in Boston in I'm guessing '81..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yup. & Jerry Goodwin the Duke of Madness on WBCN. Some of the strangest dreams of my life I had listening to that overnight. When I could pull it in over the hills here...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am B R M:

Dry Cleaning are such an interesting band... my reaction to them is always different each time I hear them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am steveo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am Threemoons:

Me too, thank you! Late/rough start. Made things a tiny bit better by firing up my old Mr. Coffee Cheapass Clone for the first time in almost 2 years; too chilly out for iced tea this AM...
  10:58am jameson 57:

mission impossible: rogue nation is the best mssion impossible. rebecca freguson steals that movie from tom cruise. she so good they bring her back for the next mission impossible.
  11:00am there’s another music station …:

That I listen to in times of desperation. It’s usually a mountain rock yawn fest. The other day Delphine Blue was DJing and the station was totally transformed. I wanted to chat and say how great the music choices were but I couldn’t find a chat bot. So I’m saying it here. And it may be my imagination, but that other station seems to be a little bit better ever since… like those crusty DJs woke up a bit?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am Ike:

Sounds great, Delphine! Excellent RHK choice, haven’t heard this one in a while.
  11:06am prudy:

I'm intrigued...what kind of music can be classified as "mountain rock"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Handy Haversack:

Well, Mountain maybe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am karlward:

Mountain Movers?
Avatar 11:07am Juli:

Sounds like the guy I knew in my 20s who kept wanting to go to a local bar's Southern rock night. "What's Southern rock, specifically?" I'd ask. "Uhhhh, Lynyrd Skynyrd?" he'd say. I opted out.

@prudy, I think they meant like Mumford & Sons, so really more like strollercore (as Brian T. once put it) than mountain rock.
Avatar 11:12am delphine:

yeah i'm on that other station fridays from 6-9 in the pm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am patrick321:

Hi Delphine! I'm signing in late from work but happy to hear you on the web waves. ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am Ike:

The “casuals” still get these two stations confused because they both start with “WF” and are close to each other on the dial. I usually say, “No no, the *weird* one.” LOL.
  11:14am prudy:

Delphine, I believe that's where I first heard you in the mid 90's in NYC...loved your style then...love it now...
  11:15am there’s another music station …:

I’ll be tuning in!!
  11:15am Andrea:

Pigs… in there? Yes.
  11:17am jameson 57:

  11:17am Andrea:

Yeah.
Robert Wyatt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am Threemoons:

I love this...it's like a warm sonic bath of body-temperature Irish coffee on a lazy Sunday where the barrista/bartender is also a DJ and slips in his 5 AM wind-down playlist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am Ike:

Has anyone done a cover of “Pigs…” called “Hogs…in There?” for the era of 30-50 feral hogs?
