Moh Alileche Brings Amazigh (Berber) Music To the US

Moh

Moh Alileche, originally from the Kabylia region of Algeria, brings the music and language of the Amazigh (or Berber) people to the US.

Now based in Albuquerque, he returned to Algeria to record his pointedly named new album, Humanity is Falling Apart, with local musicians.

He joins us to introduce the new album and also introduce us to a great Amazigh musician who inspired him, the late Lounès Matoub.

Learn more at Moh Alileche's website, https://www.flagoffreedom.com/.

Moh Alileche  Day of Happiness   Favoriting Tragedy  Flag of Freedom  1999  The album was named Tragedy in recognition of the assasination of Amazigh Kabylia musician Lounes Matoub. I don't know if we make this clear in the interview but at the time there was trouble for creative people in Algeria on multiple fronts - against pop music in general in (for example a note rai singer, Cheb Hasni was also murdered, in 1994), against anyone who criticized the Algerian government, as well as against Amazigh culture and language (which Moh discusses later in the interview).    1:15:19 (Pop-up)

I thought a lot about TPSP this week. I finally watched Scorsese’s Silence this week and the Shinto inspired soundtrack was amazing.
