He is conflicted between his desire to live a human life and his knowledge of his Android self. It’s seems he has projected these feeling to Clay. Clay is both SAMs ideal and the embodiment of his repressors. I hope that one day SAM will come out of his closet and embrace his Android identity. Until then may we’ll be destined to suffer

I knew he suffered from some condition, but wasn't too medically savvy in those days. Sadly, he passed away from cystic fibrosis in the transitional summer between sixth grade and our entry into junior high. Haunted me for a long time.
