"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

JA, glad to see you play some Terje Rypdal. I saw him and his group play at a two-night festival of ECM jazz artists at UCLA's Royce Hall back in the late 70s. Also on the program was Gary Burton's band with Pat Metheny. All excellent stuff. Rypdal employed more foot pedals than anyone I had ever seen. Squeezed a wide variety of sounds ouf of his guitar. Not to nitpick, but his name is pronounced very close to English "Terry." The "j" is a weak-sounding "y."

kept our activities to biking/hiking the trails and hitting up all the new age/crystal shops. one had a sound healing studio. on the way back to the PHX airport we visited ArcoSanti a commune from the 70s. was such a fun trip! where are you now Yeti Bob?

Joe - I'm back in Sweet Home Chicago. I was out for a total of 19 days, longer than I had originally planned. Visiting Santa Fe and then driving East on Rt 56 through a lot of small towns in NM was the highlight. (Yes, 56 not 66. No other cars, no cops, a lot of wide-open road). On the last day I drove 780 miles in one day to get from Great Bend KS to Chi, it was a long day, a new record for me, but I made it home, just a little ragged. Mostly glad to be home but I'm fantasizing about retiring to NM now.
