Hi Irene - can you send some of those blue skies my direction? And what's up with David, did he have a bad reaction to Shot #2?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Irene Trudel:

Aww, thanks Doug!

Herzlich Willkommen zur Continental Subway, Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm YETI BOB:

Irene - your show and Continental Subway are the 2 reasons I listen to the Drummer stream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Sylvia and headcleaner. Rev.Rabbit, it's been a while... YETI BOB, David and I have often said we inspire each other.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Threemoons:

Aaah, that second shot....nothing like a robust immune response to knock you on your lala.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm listener james from westwood:

Yay for the second shot! I would've been in no condition to have DJ'd after my second Pfizer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Phillippe:

Howdy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Threemoons:

I HAD to work the day after my 2nd Moderna shot. I felt like all hell, but I made it.

DandoShaft reminding of Donovan & IncredibleStringBand...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Phillippe:

Okay, editors of FMU: I had a leftover chicken thigh I had done on the smoker with a Moroccan spice rub and I just made it into a chicken salad. So do I have a Smoked Moroccan Chicken Salad or a Moroccan Smoked Chicken Salad or a Moroccan-smoked Chicken Salad? Or some thing else?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Irene Trudel:

Howdy back at ya, Phillippe and Humbig Pie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Irene Trudel:

Rev. Rabbit, funny you should mention Incredible Sting Band. They're coming up soon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm YETI BOB:

Phillippe - the question of "binding" in linguistics. I think we need some diagrams. Who or what is smoked? And what are they smoking?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm YETI BOB:

(also, it sounds delicious, I'm getting hungry!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Phillippe:

The chicken is smoked. My son was likely smoking weed. I was using a weedwhacker when it all went down. The circle of life...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm YETI BOB:

Just don't smoke the salad. Or the Moroccan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Phillippe:

I would think smoking hashish would be more Moroccan tbh
Avatar 12:30pm Bas NL:

Hello Irene! Surprise, surprise!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Threemoons:

Wonder how smoking a chicken with hashish would taste....as in treating the chicken with hash smoke, NOT rolling chicken into your blunt.
Avatar 12:31pm Hubig Pie:

Thanks Rev Rab. That resistant to change thing is spot on. The wife describes it as rigid and OCD
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm chris in the redwoods:

i want to stand around *that* smoker!
Avatar 12:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

HubigPie we are much more than our SunSign - but it's a big one...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Phillippe:

@threemoons given the amount of smoke it would take for 90 minutes, I'd imagine I'd be passed out when it was done. So I'm guessing it would taste like burnt chicken jerky...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Phillippe:

what number for you is this hubig? I'm one away from medicare
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Irene Trudel:

Interesting Philippe! That must've been quite some Moroccan Chicken. Hello Bas!
Avatar 12:37pm Hubig Pie:

Phillippe, 3 from medicare but eligible for SS. I retirin' in 2 months.
Avatar 12:38pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

Phillippe, I'd say smoked Moroccan chicken salad, since the chicken was rub with spices 1st then smoked 2nd
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Phillippe:

@Sylvia I was leaning that way myself. However, I added a little extra rub to the salad to add flavor, so that definitely complicates things
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm YETI BOB:

(smoked (Moroccan [-spiced] chicken)) salad
Avatar 12:41pm βrian:

Back from clearing brush [no lie] when I stumbled in here. Lovely happenstance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm YETI BOB:

Now, if the chicken came from Morocco ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Phillippe:

Good for you, hubig! I had considered an earlier retirement, but the house we purchased to retire in comes with a mortgage, so we have to tough it out another couple years to make sure we can cover it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Irene Trudel:

Nice to be here by happenstance, βrian!
Avatar 12:44pm Hubig Pie:

Liberal dusting with the Ras el Hanout, Phillippe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Phillippe:

@YB I wish I could attest that it clucked in Moroccan, but I didn't get a dossier. (Funny Portlandia gig where the couple was ordering a chicken and asked for a full background on the chicken)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm YETI BOB:

That would be a lot of food miles, though. Better to support your local farmers :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Phillippe:

@hubig I put together the rub myself. Unfortunately did not keep track of exactly what was in there, just followed the flavor profile.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm alanr:

oops.... almost forgot you're doing this show today!
Avatar 12:49pm dougseidel:

great "good night" song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Phillippe:

Ha, I read that as Incredible STING Band and did not think it sounded like The Police even one little bit...
Swag For Life Member 12:52pm zzz:

interesting history of "we bid you goodnight" which i always associate with the grateful dead

"The Dead learnt the version they performed from the recording by Joseph Spence and the Pindar Family. The origins of the song go back rather further, though, as is explained in the sleeve notes from Waterson:Carthy [TSCD 475, 1994]: "In the 1960s, the Incredible String Band renamed a song called 'I Bid You Goodnight' which they learned from Jody Stecher's recordings of the great Bahamian guitarist Joseph Spence and his family, the Pindar family, and the song became, for some folkies, one of those great standards. A year or two ago, John Howson visited Staithes to record the Fisherman's Choir, and was accompanied by Maggie Hunt who, at the same time, was interviewing the individuals involved. During conversations, Mr Willie Wright sung a snatch of the Sankey hymn 'Sleep On Beloved' which he described as a lowering down song at funerals, and which was clearly the same song as 'I Bid You Goodnight' but in an earlier form, and when Norma [Waterson] heard it she went to see Willie, who kindly provided her with the other verses. When we sang the song to Jody Stecher, he was enormously pleased, not least because its function as a funeral song in the Bahamian fishing community was identical to that in its North Yorkshire counterpart." whitegum.com...

Irene - was that an upcoming live gig you were mentioning? Would greatly appreciate it if you could post the details (was spacing out while you were talking, sorry)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm doctorjazz:

Looks this Single Girl track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Irene Trudel:

No worries, headcleaner. I was going to post it anyway. Here's the details on the series. Marika Hughes New String Qt. on Saturday 5/8/21: www.giantsteparts.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Irene Trudel:

Here's a link to that NY Times article featuring Yasmin Williams and other great women acoustic guitarists: www.nytimes.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm YETI BOB:

I wish they had just written about Tashi Dorji, Marissa Anderson, etc without going on so much about Fahey.
  1:57pm headcleaner:

thanks, Irene - btw that page is now saying that Saturday's gig is to be rescheduled due to the continuance of crappy NYC weather (sorry if you mentioned this also - again, was spacing out...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Irene Trudel:

I know, YETI BOB. But they're assuming most people have at least heard of Fahey, so I guess it gives a little context. But the women always seem to get second billing, which is unfortunate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm YETI BOB:

It felt to me like an un-called-for "takedown" of John Fahey, who IMO was a master of the form. It's great that there's a new, diverse generation of guitarists but I felt like this anti-Fahey angle was totally unnecessary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Irene Trudel:

Aww, crap headcleaner! I didn't scroll down to see it. Too bad-- that's one I really wanted to see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Michael 98145:

been using Ms Yasmin and Ms Marissa as driving music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Michael 98145:

  2:05pm headcleaner:

fine NYT article - except where it makes think -I- could have started with Guitar Hero 10 years ago...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Irene Trudel:

Michael, you probably know Marissa Anderson and William Tyler are putting an album out together. It's on Bandcamp.
  2:22pm headcleaner:

@YB - I see what you mean about the anti-Fahey angle - pretty trite (and distracts the broader and valid points the author was trying make). Yes, he was a badly programmed machine, like all of us are, in different ways. It's not like didn't pay the price for it, in his personal life. And of course now he's gone.
  2:26pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Handy Haversack:

I'm going to be in Central Park tomorrow for the first time since ... well, you all know. Though I did march by it on Central Park South during a protest last summer. Long walk from Brooklyn!
  2:31pm headcleaner:

I think we were probably on that same walk, Handy
  2:31pm Funky16Corners:

Thank you, Irene!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Handy Haversack:

We came over the 59th St. Bridge, headcleaner, starting from the park in Queens off Vernon, past the power plant. (First we had to walk there from Greenpoint!) I can't even remember what month it was now. Maybe later? Sept.? July? My time brain feels broken.

  2:41pm headcleaner:

@Handy - ah, different march! But in broader terms, we're on the same page :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Irene Trudel:

Hey Funky16Corners! Looking forward to that Brian Wilson / Beach Boys deep dive! bigkafka, I've seen Derek Gripper a couple of times and adore his playing. I love how he can make a guitar sound like the Kora. Also a big fan of Guy Buttery, who's and equally amazing guitarist from South Africa.
