Avatar 5:09pm

@ Eric - I do the same thing.
Avatar 5:09pm
Otis:

I miss the 'Darwin Fish' I had on my Trans Am in the 90s whenever I hear Robin and Crystal Bernard.
Avatar 5:10pm
spacebrother:

I also like this one because it's so L.A. -centric.
Avatar 5:11pm
spacebrother:

@ Otis - I had one of those. I also have one somewhere that's a flying saucer that says "Alien" instead of Darwin.
Avatar 5:11pm
Otis:

This Zappa album is really solid. Keep it on the shelf.
Avatar 5:11pm
Otis:

Loved the 90s fish movement. Wonder if they are still on cars today, I hope so.
Avatar 5:12pm

I shall do another "California" themed show sometime and this will be on it.

Joe’s Garage is my favorite.

SB, have you heard this version... blog.wfmu.org...
Avatar 5:13pm

@ Otis - There were so many variations. I've seen a Flying Spaghetti Monster, Cthulu, etc.

Mr Fab:

Beaming in, Spacebrother! I give my daughter Valley Girl lessons. Like, how to do the coordinated facial expressions and hand motions that go with Val speak. She IS a native Val after all.

@ Otis - NO! Thank you !

It's funny, I thought I'd heard all of the 365 tracks.

I forget what's up there myself. Mass content, elapsed time, and memory going in the crapper.

Yeah, i usually remember by association too. These days.

Dokaka, the acapella guy! Forgot about him. He was big in the early internet. I think he did a King Crimson cover that I probly have on some corroding CD-R somewhere.
Avatar 5:31pm
spacebrother:

@ Fab - Yeah - an epic version of "20th Century Schizoid Man," I think.

something that's bewildered me for years. I swear I heard an acapella version of The Units' High Pressure Days back in the 80s by some group who are NOT The Bobs. I cannot find out who did it.
Avatar 5:34pm
Mr Fab:

pretty sure WFMU's own Irwin re-released "There's A New Sound" for Bob Mould's Singles Only Label (SOL) in the '90s.
Avatar 5:36pm
spacebrother:

@ Rich - Sorry, I'm also drawing a blank.
Avatar 5:37pm

@ Fab - Yeah, I think it was b/w Leona Anderson's "Fish."
Avatar 5:44pm

I'm not sure if you can communicate through a telescope, Slim.

But who cares!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm

Love this song. There's also a suitably bonkers contemporaneous film shot for it.
Avatar 5:52pm

@ Rich - I'm currently obsessed with this album.

The Witch pulled me back to chat from work.. working that magic.
Avatar 5:52pm

This is the album version, which I think I like better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm
Rich in Washington:

It's always funny when bands claim they invented rock videos, when there are all kinds of instances of promo films made for bands that follow the format of modern rock videos going back to the 60s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm

This is cool, spacebro! I don't think I've ever heard other songs by The Rattles.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm

Yeah, I've only heard The Witch on some 70s Satanic hard rock comp I have. Noice!
Avatar 5:56pm
spacebrother:

@ Rich - Yeah, there are so many great films for songs. And then there are the soundies from the 1940s-'50s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm
Rich in Washington:

right. And Scopitones.
Avatar 5:57pm
Otis:

Soundies to Scopes. Still have 3 Something Weird VHS tapes from the 90s of Soundies. Love those. We had a working Scopitone machine here in Montreal (Atomic Cafe) and it took a lot of power to run from what I recall checking it out a decade back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm
Rich in Washington:

I need to get a hold of my friend Dennis. He just bought and was having restored a Scopitone player and was going to have a premiere party for it before covid hit. He's a film collector who also has hundreds of scopitone reels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm

This is my fave G&C album.
Avatar 5:59pm

@ Otis - Have to see that the next time I visit!

Unsure it's still in operation here, that was a decade ago but possibly. For sure, Atomic Cafe is a cool place here Greg, few spots next time you visit MTL.
