Not sure if anyone's seen the Adult Swim show Joe Pera Talks to You, but there's a really charming episode about the main character hearing "Baba O'Riley" for the first time. Also features Jo Firestone!
Avatar 9:22am John from Madison:

An album you let play from a to b. Good stuff.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:22am Krys O.:

@Yeti Bob: Fred Frith used to come down to the station in East Orange as a special guest of Jim Price. Fred would program the show and Jim would engineer. I met him there a couple of times. Peter Blegvad also appeared on Jim's show.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:23am Dano59:

That's fascinating @TonyR -- what's your source for that factoid?
Avatar 9:23am Roberto:

Baba seemed to have a resurgence in the early '80s, so much so that I didn't realize at the time that it had been released 10 years earlier.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:24am YETI BOB:

Krys: And I was listening attentively! For years I even had some cassettes recordings of Fred's shows but I don't know where they are now. I can fairly say that Fred Frith opened up my mind when I was an impressionable teenager - one of my gateways from punk rock to total freedom.

There was an extended version of the instrumental "Baba O'Riley" that was on the Meher Baba Tribute album released in the 70's. The song is a homage to Baba and Terry Riley.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

I made up a road trip cassette called "Difficult Listening" and it had a Frith track that sounded something like an electric guitar being dismantled with a pair of pliers. It was not my wife's favorite.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:28am Dano59:

I still wonder if Lifehouse would have been even better received then than Who's Next. (a parlor game, really, like compiling a Dylan album for Columbia to release in late '66)
Avatar 9:28am Joe McG:

@TDK60: Man, I love eel. Haven't had any in a while! Come to think of it, ain't had any pie lately, either.

So I had to come here to say I fucking hate The Who, so you've been on mute for the goddamn thirty minutes it takes for this stupid song to finish playing

That's all, signing back out now, I love you Joe and very much looking forward to the whenever this track ends and I can turn the sound back on.

Woods: I just got back from a long road trip and I found that all the "weird" stuff on my playlists didn't work at all. Wound up listening to Quadropheina over and over (great driving music) and a whole lot of Willie Nelson, who I decided was my patron saint for the trip.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am Acid Cazh:

@YETI BOB: I used to *like* The Who, but then I listened to them carefully and, well, didn't hold up (for me). I will say that the first time I heard that bloated three-song mini-rock opera (the one they did for Rock And Roll Circus) I wanted to jam a screwdriver in each ear to get the sound to go away. But yeah, post second-shot trying to work (I didn't want to burn a sick day!) there was no way I could sit through Baba O'Riley today.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have a real distaste for most deep male voices, Tindersticks among them. Except Leonard Cohen or Kristofferson - that's different.

@TDK60 Thank you!

Whereas I love Crooners. Moody ♏︎Scorpio I reckon.

Saw Van Morrison at the NOLA jazz fest mid-90's.
He didn't learn the Spinal Tap lesson that you don't play free form jazz odyssey before a festival crowd

Joe McG - thanks for the great tunes this morning and getting my week started off right!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:42am Dano59:

.@tom - Rhino did a massive set of reissues of RH records and one-off compilations back in the late '90s as I recall. Pure gold.
Avatar 11:43am Joe McG:

My pleasure, Marley. Thx again for the little pieces of fast plastic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Gordon FM:

This show is sounding very groovy from La La land. Thanks Joe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

DaleJ sounding like SteveForbert.
That the poet of a towering jewel like AstralWeeks can be so wrong-headed... Out of step, I can reckon easy...
Avatar 11:45am Joe McG:

You bet, Gordon! @RR63: I adore the Who and I adore Van Morrison, both up to about 1980.

have to leave early. thank you, joe. lovely tunes today
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:48am JG:

Somebody in the book I'm reading said "van's brain is like 90% music" which you can imagine would be a very troubling disconnected from reality kind of way to go through life

Gotta say I love making this show fit my schedule now. I had a very lucky fluke Monday morning where I was able to tune in, and since then I’m so happy to seek out this show.
Like the happy little accidents Bob Ross taught us, this show is serendipitous!

But will add, for insight into these crazy geniuses, watch the documentary about Michael Jackson's last unrealized tour. When they guy is talking music / dance, he comes accross as brilliant. But any other topic, he really struggles to coonnect. by the way, the performances, only rehearsals, so only at about 60 to 70% , are amazing
