Avatar 11:50am Sean in Bristol UK:

Hello Irene, greetings one and all. Typical Bank holiday weather here in North Somerset, cold, wet and generally grotty!
  11:58am headcleaner:

morning, irene - what a beautiful photo indeed
Avatar 12:00pm βrian:

Ah, music for turbid souls. I'm listening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm HyperDose:

Irene's photography skills are top-tier. Afternoon, all!
Avatar 12:00pm Annabella in Crewkerne UK:

Hi Irene and fellow listeners, love the photo, cosy looking club, where is this? Wouldn’t mind checking this venue out the next time I am Stateside
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm listener james from westwood:

Afternoon, Irene and all!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Brian in UK:

Hello Irene.

Sean, same here, though our garden needs it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Irene Trudel:

Welcome to today's show, Sean, headcleaner, βrian, HyperDose, Annabella, james and YETI BOB!
  12:03pm headcleaner:

anglosaxonism of the day: "grotty" (describes the current weather in NYC, also). But I have now passed the 2-week window past my second shot + so am not feeling grotty inside at all. And Irene's program is the perfect way to celebrate (save for a trip to Barbès)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Michael 98145:

Good day, Friends
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks for the link, YETI BOB! Barbes is one of my favorite small clubs, which just celebrated it's 19th Birthday (and it survived the Pandemic)! Annabella, they stream concerts, so you can get a glimpse of what they do.
Avatar 12:06pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@headcleaner, I did feel a tad grotty after my first jab care of Oxford/AstraZeneca, still managed a 7 km run the following day so got of lightly I think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Brian and Michael. Yes, grotty would be an appropriate description of NYC's day outside the window.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm listener 126464:

Hello Irene, everyone.
Avatar 12:10pm Sem:

Hello, Irene. Thanks for this time travel music, been a long, long, long time since the memories it evokes have come to mind. Greets, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Irene Trudel:

Sean, glad you got your jab! Hope you're feeling better today. And "hi" to you, listener 126464 and Sem! Happy to provide the mind travel today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Brian in UK:

The last day of April here was more like the last day of February. Snow on the higher ground.

Hello Sem.
Avatar 12:13pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hello Irene, listeners, and little kitties
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm sphere:

hullo hullo :)
Avatar 12:15pm Sem:

Hello, Brian. Hummingbird arrived today. Let summer begin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Irene Trudel:

Oof, Brian! It's been chilly in NYC at the end of April, but I think we've finally turned the corner into warmer weather.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Brian in UK:

Sem, first House Marten spotted yesterday.
Family meetup this weekend. Luckily Saturday was dry & warm to be outside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Irene Trudel:

Hello Sylvia and sphere!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Brian in UK:

Irene some days we have 12C temperature variations. What to wear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm YETI BOB:

Brian in UK: Layers, like we do in Chicago
Avatar 12:21pm βrian:

Only 64 degrees here, but I'm tempted to turn on the AC. It's muggy, muggy, muggy.
Avatar 12:21pm Sean in Bristol UK:

The Bristol Softball season starts tomorrow, a major step back to normality
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm YETI BOB:

I got home from a road-trip on Friday, and I already want to go back to New Mexico!
Avatar 12:23pm βrian:

Despite my pleas, my parents never installed a martin house.
Avatar 12:24pm βrian:

@YB: Piñon in your blood?
Avatar 12:25pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Yeti Bob, I made a pilgrimage to Albuquerque a few years back to pay homage to a certain AMC show, went on a cycle tour called "Biking Bad', I was in seventh heaven
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm YETI BOB:

βrian: It is now! I'm seriously considering retiring to NM. I felt really good there, the air and sunshine and lack of dampness did me good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm YETI BOB:

(and great food and a lot of cool people)
Avatar 12:28pm Sem:

Glad the brood had good weather for their visit, Brian. Variable here as well, day to day.
Avatar 12:29pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Checked out a great pub/brerery in Albuquerque, Marble Brewery, wonderful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm YETI BOB:

So many breweries all over the place! Even a small city like Winslow AZ has 3 microbrewery/taprooms. Marble Brewery makes some good beer. I had a real nice visit at the Santa Fe brewery too.
Avatar 12:32pm Annabella in Crewkerne UK:

Great set, thank you, Irene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Ireniacs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Doug Schulkind:

Hey-o, Irene!
Avatar 12:36pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Each time I plan a baseball trip I always look into breweries that particular city might have, I have one more ballpark to visit to completer all thirty and that being Atlanta.
Avatar 12:38pm βrian:

Today's pandemic dessert: Rhubarb pie with vanilla ice cream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm YETI BOB:

Sean - I think it's cool that you've seen so much of the USA. Do you have a favorite ballpark?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Irene Trudel:

Heya Henry and Doug!
Avatar 12:42pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Yeti, top three:

Giants
Pirates
Padres
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Irene Trudel:

I've not been to as many ballparks as Sean. But I do agree that the Giants stadium in San Francisco is quite spectacular, especially with it's view of the bay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Doug Schulkind:

The baseball park in Pittsburgh is gorgeous. Particularly if you don't watch the home team down on the field.
Avatar 12:44pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Fenway is right up there, went on the tour the day after the game in Boston, not a big fan of heights so 'The Green Wall' was unsettling!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Threemoons:

Heyo.
  12:51pm Peter K.:

What a lovely segue! What a lovely show! (As always.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm HyperDose:

A big hi and hello to Threemoons and our beat-centric leader, Doug Schulkind!
Avatar 12:54pm βrian:

I visited Tiger Stadium a few times. I remember it having a kind of seedy charm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Good morning-ish, Irene! SF Giants fans, we. <3
Avatar 12:56pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Brian, was that shared by The Tigers and Lions?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Irene Trudel:

Hi to you, Threemoons, Peter, and Summer and Michael and Sylvia!
Avatar 12:57pm βrian:

Yes, it was. Never visited during football season, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Irene Trudel:

Peter and I are both Mets and Giants fans, although I'll admit I've not been keeping up with the SF team lately.
  1:04pm Peter K.:

The Giants are having a surprisingly good season -- they're in first place in a tough division, ahead of the heavily favored Dodgers and Padres -- but of course the season is young. As for the Mets, they're the Mets. Even when they win, they tend to do it in weird and disturbing ways.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Irene Trudel:

So true about the Mets, Peter!
Avatar 1:06pm Sean in Bristol UK:

The time I went to Detroit to catch a Tigers game my NFL team, NY Giants were in town so had to get a ticket. Walked from the hotel to the ballpark with a Giants shirt along with a Mets backpack. My route was through a tail gate party. The abuse on the approach to said party was along the lines 'we don't like The Giants' and that is putting it lightly! Once this lovely group of people saw what I had on my back I was then reminded how much The Mets sucked! I thought we were all loved up concerning sport in your wonderful country!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm chris in the redwoods:

hi, Irene and folks. i've really been enjoying the music as i ramp up the work week.
yes, go Giants. i should really get back into watching, but got out of it last year because i hate laugh tracks, or in this case the screams of non-present fans.
Avatar 1:08pm Sean in Bristol UK:

It was a fun experience, going into Comerica Park was a blast, went into full English accent, I think I was forgiven!
Avatar 1:10pm βrian:

Where's Comerica Park?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Irene Trudel:

Chis, I think the cardboard cut-outs are finally gone and people are actually going to games again. I'm hoping to get to one for my birthday later this month!
Avatar 1:11pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Brian, Detroit
  1:12pm Peter K.:

Chris, last year I watched a game on TV where the Mets played so badly that the cardboard cutouts in the stands started booing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Peter, agreed! Giants are surprising us in what we thought would be another rebuild year. We've got MLB online and love listening to Kruk & Kuip call the games.
Avatar 1:14pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Peter K, brilliant!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Doug Schulkind:

Irene, I just sent you something to tide you over until Vijay arrives in the mail.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Irene Trudel:

Oh, many thanks Doug! I looked this morning and it said the album's shipped. The files are greatly appreciated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm doctorjazz:

Hi. checking in, phone problems, may have to listen in the archive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Irene Trudel:

Hey doctorjazz! Hope the problems aren't too bad. Nice bumping into you at that Central Park concert yesterday.
Avatar 1:23pm Sean in Bristol UK:

So many baseball memories but this is my favourite, afternoon game at the team I refuse to mention but arrived on No 4 train, got my Mets top on. Dude on the platform along with a megaphone. "Can all Y***** fans please make their way to the stadium exit, Mets fans please make your way to the opposite platform and get the f**k out of here" I got that as I was a just passing, him with the megaphone and myself just pissed (laughed) ourselves silly. Cermented Baseball for me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Doug Schulkind:

Oh that Sam Burton was lovely. I've had it sitting in my downloads folder, but haven't listened yet. Thanks for the nudge, Irene.
Avatar 1:25pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Yasmin, sublime
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Irene Trudel:

There's a great article in the NY times that features Yasmin (and a number of my favorite women guitarists): www.nytimes.com...
Avatar 1:31pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Article saved for reading later, thank you Irene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Irene Trudel:

Doug, it was the same for me. I finally checked out Sam's album and there's some lovely tunes on it.
Avatar 1:38pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Mr Wilson, thank you Irene, had a ticket to see see him in September at The Hammersmith Odeon but the tour has been cancelled, so disappointed but I will get to see him in the not too distant future. But it's a minor thing compared to what is happening around the globe.
Avatar 1:49pm Sean in Bristol UK:

What a stonking set that was, marvellous
Avatar 1:52pm Annabella in Crewkerne UK:

Becoming a big fan of Yasmin Williams
  1:54pm Peter K.:

Sean, I am assuming that "stonking" is a British term and not a typo for "stinking" (which is how I read it at first)!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Irene Trudel:

Here's a link to that concert series featuring Marika Hughes New String Quartet next Saturday in Central Park: www.giantsteparts.org...
Avatar 2:02pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Peter, absolutely not "stinking' a colloquial phrase this side of "The Pond' meaning awesome, fab, beautiful, etc, etc!
Avatar 2:19pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Loving this track from The Mountain Goats
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Michael 98145:

Totally agree about Yasmin
Avatar 2:21pm βrian:

My spouse, on the other hand, uses "stinking good" to describe delicious food.
Avatar 2:29pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Have to get my paws on this I Think Like Midnight album
Avatar 2:31pm βrian:

"Dental Records." That's cute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Irene Trudel:

Yeah, one of the guys in Cryptic Soup had a particularly bad experience at the Dentist.

  2:46pm headcleaner:

If you like what you just heard -- the great Michael Hearst (presumablly accompanied by the equally grat Alyssa Lamb) will be doing 2 actual live release events for this album, later in the month: http://www.michaelhearst.com/live/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks headcleaner! I was going to mention that as well. It's a Barbes in the Park event: www.michaelhearst.com...
  2:50pm headcleaner:

Correction - only the May 15 event at Prospect Park will be live
  2:50pm headcleaner:

Correction 2: 'grat' => 'great'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm chris in the redwoods:

thanks, Irene. excellent selections. :) have great weeks, all!
Avatar 2:54pm βrian:

We need a lament, a dirge, for the show is about to end!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks for all your comments today! I'll be back next Monday at noon for more of the same. Ken's Last Ever Radio Extravaganza is up next.
