Dutch beat, rock and pop, roughly between 1960 - 1980. We not only focus on shocking blue earrings washing up the sandy coast after tea, but we're also getting our shoes wet digging up nits from a kayak with our supersister

Avatar 12:27pm StringOFperils:

Hello to ALL, on this wanly sunny April day, far from Monday, far from Friday
Avatar 12:29pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Here in Dutchyland it's winter one moment, autumn next, and then it appears to be spring. But then it hails again or snows a little. Or a lot. "April doet wat ie wil", as we say.
12:30pm Dave in St Albans UK:

Hi Jan and non mountaineers! Sunny and chilly but warmed by the music. Of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Dave!
Avatar 12:32pm Paper Kosmonaut:

"Warhoofd" could be translated as Fuzzbrain, I presume.
12:33pm Dave in St Albans UK:

"Fuzzbrain" is what I have in the morning, first thing!;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Jan Turkenburg:

More about this track (and actually where i got it from) showcase.thebluebus.nl...
Avatar 12:33pm worldsworstrecords:

I assumed it was a play on Andy Warhol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, just like his mate Bob Geldwolf
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Candy-O'67:

Hey String! I posted a minute ago saying it was warm here, too, but I don't see it. So, I guess it didn't go through! Enjoy the springtime!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Jan Turkenburg:

But a warhoofd is an expression for somebody who is absent-minded, not having his thoughts together.
Avatar 12:35pm Paper Kosmonaut:

that is true, jan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Jan Turkenburg:

And Geldwolf translates quite well liturally: money wolf
Avatar 12:36pm Mister Shambolic:

Same here PK. Snowing hard one minute, bright sunshine the next.
12:36pm Dave in St Albans UK:

Alexander Curly. Wow. I am now in super nostalgic mode. Youthful days and excesses......
Avatar 12:36pm Paper Kosmonaut:

The BeeGees sto-ho-hole their vibrato-ho-ho from Alexander Cu-hu-hurly-hee-hee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Candy-O'67:

Alexander is sounding a lot like Bowie here
12:38pm Dave in St Albans UK:

A playlist made in heaven today Jan. Like!
Avatar 12:39pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Claw Boys Claw took their name from a song title by a band called Motor Boys Motor, of which some members later formed the band Screaming Blue Messiahs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Jan Turkenburg:

:-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Jan Turkenburg:

ah, thanks PK. Info is always welcome!
Avatar 12:44pm Paper Kosmonaut:

And remember folks: The Belgians do have hills. Lots. We can count the Dutch hills on one hand. Holterberg, Grebbeberg, St. Pietersberg, De Hondsrug and Kaatsheuvel.
Avatar 12:45pm worldsworstrecords:

Oh, I think I might prefer this to the Beatles' version :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Jan Turkenburg:

PK, don't forget Agnietenberg, Kop van Bloemendaal!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Jan Turkenburg:

Pyramide van Austerlitz...
Avatar 12:46pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Die laatste is fake.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Jan Turkenburg:

:p
Avatar 12:47pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Bergen op Zoom is een slechtgenaaid bikinitopje.
Avatar 12:49pm worldsworstrecords:

So Carlo was Duitch, but he's singing in Italian?
Avatar 12:50pm Paper Kosmonaut:

That was a trait some had. Especially around Amsterdam. It was just as incomprehensible at that time. No one in the netherlands actually understood a lot of english.
Avatar 12:51pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Willy Alberti is another Dutch singer who sang in Italian.
Avatar 12:51pm worldsworstrecords:

I've come across plenty of British singers singing in various European languages too, PK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, he lived in The Netherlands, that's what I know. He might have been Italian, but I haven't had the time to research that. But there were more Dutchmen singing in Italian, even took on an Italian stage name like Willy Alberti..
Avatar 12:52pm worldsworstrecords:

One of Larry Parnes' singers joined a Frech YeYe act
Avatar 12:53pm Paper Kosmonaut:

The Amsterdammers were quite fond of Italian opera/operette style stuff. The whole Jordanese style of singing is based on this method. belting and wildly oscillating vibrato's.
Avatar 12:53pm worldsworstrecords:

interesting...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Jan Turkenburg:

Avatar 1:17pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Palingpop. (eel pop) It's quite amazing how many bands and artists came from Volendam. I wonder why. I have my theories, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Rich in Washington:

Help! I'm a mountain!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Jan Turkenburg:

LOL! Hi Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Jan!
Avatar 1:29pm worldsworstrecords:

hey Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Rich in Washington:

Hi worldsworstrecords!
Avatar 1:30pm Feldpausch:

Hi Rich!
Avatar 1:31pm Feldpausch:

Pindakaas = "Peanut Cheese"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Jan Turkenburg:

Yes: we say cheese, you say butter
Avatar 1:33pm Feldpausch:

Who did a song first called Tobacco Road, Shocking Blue or Lou Rawls?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Jan Turkenburg:

of course cheese is far more logical! 😂
Avatar 1:34pm worldsworstrecords:

yay! Beatlecover!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Rich in Washington:

I love peanut butter
Avatar 1:35pm worldsworstrecords:

One of my least favourite Beatles songs... awful lyrics
Avatar 1:35pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Wasn't it called 'cheese' over here because the butter producing factories were against calling it butter?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Jan Turkenburg:

Me too, Rich three such XXL jars in storage at the moment
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Jan Turkenburg:

That indeed rings a bell, PK.
Avatar 1:37pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Ze Germans also kall it erdnuss-käse. (-;
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Jan Turkenburg:

Ze Dutsj en ze Djermans hef moor sings in common, PK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Jan Turkenburg:

😁
Avatar 1:39pm Paper Kosmonaut:

But not Erdnuss-Käse.
Avatar 1:40pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Ze vergaten eikelkaas in het rijtje.
Avatar 1:41pm worldsworstrecords:

so MeatLoaf should actually be called MeatCheese?
Avatar 1:41pm worldsworstrecords:

hahahahahaha
Avatar 1:41pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Meatloaf is Gehaktbrood. Mincebread.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Jan Turkenburg:

hahahahahahahaha
Avatar 1:43pm worldsworstrecords:

Now I'm confused, I thought it was leverkaas
Avatar 1:44pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Leverkaas is made from liver and is more like baloney.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Jan Turkenburg:

another Dutch word of the Week, Darryl. I'll put it on the next list for Ruth.
Avatar 1:45pm MeatCheese:

ah! Live a pressed sausage, liverwurst or similar
Avatar 1:46pm MeatCheese:

*like a pressed sausage...
Avatar 1:46pm Paper Kosmonaut:

like that, indeed.
Avatar 1:47pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Avatar 1:53pm Paper Kaasmonaut:

Jan Rietman. Need I say more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Jan Turkenburg:

He plays a mean piano though...
