  6:11pm Miss G:

Hi all! Maybe I should say this? In months past, if I missed a song on someone's show and thought of it later, I would do a quick G(urgle) search with "wfmu + ["Mel Tormé"]" for instance. And then say "in the past month." And I would quickly get the answer. But in the past week, it does not work like it used to. Are Gurgle playing hardball? Or change in software?

I think it's also important no vaccine be wasted on those who've already had a confirmed case of the disease. No vaccine will ever be better than natural immunity.
Avatar 6:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

To say that being Anti-Corporate
(...maybe more to the point *here* - Anti Giant Tech Monopoly)
- has no relation to the entire long history of Left - Right Politics seems inaccurate (I won't say disingenuous).
To say Techtonic is ahead the curve - & an invaluable source of keeping the focus specifically on Tech (& - without being beholden to ANY Corporation!!!) - 1000% !
Robert Reich addresses the Monopolies from an Economic Justice motivation... Harry Shearer touches on it occasionally... On The Media on NPR sometimes does... There's the EFF...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm tim from champaign (now washington):

I love A Scanner Darkly. It's a really great combination of PKD science fiction and bummer reality.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Doug in JC:

Aw, too bad it can't be something like "Fuck off, Facebook!", which is how I often feel about it, because it's going to be a sign-off of the radio show -- but you COULD incorporate it into the T-shirt!

Hey! I own $58 worth of Ethers!
Anyone want to buy one of my NFTs?
Avatar 6:24pm Dano59:

Dear Techtonic ... I am one of those people guilty of not reading user agreements and two more sins compounded today - flipping right past and unable to retrieve an antivirus notice when I opened my phone and a notification before a Paypal login that my password showed up in a leak (dump?) list. Ouch! Anyway, I appreciate your advice and advocacy.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Hi Mark, Ken, friends. I closed my F@#$book account in October 2018. The comments page, Slack (which I mostly ignore), and Front Porch Forum (the Vermont "neighbor" listserv sorta site Mark and Ken discussed a few weeks ago), are the closest things I have to social media. My life is exponentially better without (anti)social media.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm melinda:

@tim I agree, I know of no other equivalent source
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm tom in Glasgow:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Webhamster Henry:

Anyone on Clubhouse?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Handy Haversack:

Mark Hurst has provided me with the much more articulate version of my howling in the wilderness. It's like he combed the locusts out of my beard, dusted me off, reaimed me at my peers and friends and family and colleagues and said "You were not the only one." I appreciate this show more than I can say, and that's *in* the context of how right Mark is: This is the greatest radio station in the world.

Good call, Larry!
  6:32pm Miss G:

Larry, I would really like to hear "Your Car is a Snitch!"

Yay to Hearty. He once said, something like, “I’ll be your tour guide. You tell me something and I’ll repeat it back to you”.
  6:33pm Listener Robert:

It's like with the various online discussion or commenting fora whose hosts either get bugged by or forbid you to link to other places. They're not so much interested in the subject themselves as they're interested in promoting attention to their own discussion of whatever it is -- whether they're selling clicks or ad views, or just hoping to do so in the future, or even (when they're not a platform) just have a big ego.

  6:35pm Miss G:

Paper Maps RULE! I hate the stupid directions those internet things give.
  6:35pm Sam:

Paper maps are so much better. No zooming and panning and reloading. And they’re beautiful to look at.
  6:35pm Listener Robert:

You still need light to read the paper map.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm melinda:

I'm addicted to google street view. But I love using paper maps.
  6:35pm J*Boogie:

I learned my way around LA using a Thomas Guide. I know that city like the back of my hand as a result. Google or Apple maps will not do this for you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm David (in London):

The more the world has become dependent on mapping apps, the more I've come to appreciate how London cabbies doing 'The Knowledge' is such an awesome feat of human mental agility.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Handy Haversack:

Miss G, we collect super-detailed road atlases. We have a U.S. one, sure, but the states we spend time in all get a Garmin atlas: NY, Michigan, Maine, NH and Vermont. More to be added as needed. They show public boat launches!

And, for the historical record, I have made other friends though these boards, and many of them joined together to send a bunch of food to the station this weekend, and I know this is a tech show and I'm supposed to be world weary and jaded as an NYC poseur, but I'm just gonna say it: WFMU is magic. It's magic. And you don't even have to believe in it. The spell is cast.

Big Tech - Unsafe at Any Speed.
Avatar 6:59pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

About listening more than once:
Earlier on - I found the Program often too dense to keep up - Technically. I think Mark has gotten better as a Presenter this way. Einstein is quoted as saying things shouldn't be explained as more complex then they need to be - but no simpler than they really are... But a major issue is the Dehumanization of all Values - Economically & with BigTech. So to the extent this Program bridges this chasm it succeeds for me personally anyhow...
  6:59pm Dean:

Well, wow! Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm Handy Haversack:

Though now I want Mark to play Google at 66 baud, David.
