In the interest of spreading some pure joy, here's a recipe for baked ziti that listener Buffalo Bills Quarterback John Allen (I *assume* it's a nom de radio) shared. I made it, and it is the crowing glory of my cooking life. Maybe my entire life. We're still eating it.

I made the sauce linked to in it, too. I tripled the garlic in that, made it half a tbs. of crushed red pepper, added another can of crushed tomatoes. Doubled the basil and oregano.

For the ziti, I grated half the mozz and cubed half, added a little more shredded on the top. Also a layer of crushed red pepper on top of the noodles, before the sauce. Insanely good. After more than twenty years, I finally feel like I really live in Brooklyn!

You're the best, Baby!

@KrisB: They only show up if you're signed in on the web -- the app doesn't do it. To get the #1, you have to aim part of your S4L at Michael's show specifically. Which you can do by pledging at pledge.wfmu.org... Select what you want to devote to the show (up to your S4L limit, as long as you have not allocated it already), select "one time," ignore the swag stuff, select "bill me later." And you can just say in the office comments "aim $xx of my S4L at Michael Shelley."

I think Beatles For Sale is still my favorite Beatles album. That period is the absolute best. I tend to prefer the first half of their career to the later period these days. I would totally listen to the Red album over the Blue album.

Beatles for Sale I think is their most pivotal album. Almost half covers, did they ever record another cover after?
  11:47am
gf2002:

LOVE "Beatles For Sale", for me it's a favorite right up there with Revolver. And "I Don't Want To Spoil The Party" has one of George's finest guitar solos. I think it was Geoff Emerick who said he played John's vocal intro to Mr. Moonlight over and over because it was so powerful

Robyn Hitchcock did a podcast about Beatles For Sale - thot it was My Favorite Album w/ Jeremy Dylan but I can't find it again... gf2002:

"Beatles For Sale" is heavy on John's originals, I think it shows he was on a self-doubting songwriting roll while Paul had to dip back to 1958 for one of his sunny originals. And John's songs on the album have a darker theme than what had come before, and showed what was to come with "Help" and "Ticket To Ride", dark themes and self doubt

I have told this story before, but I was listening to Suzy Hotrod with a friend, and his partner came home and thought it was too staticky and put on a Spotify rockabilly channel(? I don't know how it works). I went from discovering new artists and new tracks with every change to knowing and having heard a million times every song that came on. Sad. Trom. Bone.

clarke, curation in the sense that here at FMU the DJs are choosing the content for their playlists. It's not overseen by a larger entity, and as a result, is usually not repetitive and certainly not beholden to advertising or other corporate interests.

More & more is owned by fewer & fewer - as in all things, so in Media. Music Culture is the canary in the coalmine... Because of such deregulation & acquisitions - our Culture has been controlled increasingly by lawyers & business hacks further & further removed from either Artists or Audience (us!)... & that was before the completely digital world already. Interwebz have revolutionized the Distribution - but destroyed the human Promotion - & replaced the Presentation with Robots. The original FM Radio revolution was the the higher quality sound passing from Classical to Freak Rawk Culture. & - more Local control. In the 1960s - Pop & (Commercial) Art had a new & special intercourse... Now - has been said there *are no* 'Local' stations anymore...
WFMU is behind & ahead in miraculous & exceptional ways ...10 Xs what even the best of other stations are - @ probly (?) 1/10th the budget...
As Brian in the UK's profile says: WFMU is radio that has grown up - behind a juvenile facade...
