Listener comments!

Avatar 3/7 5:23pm Tony Coulter:

Hello, all! Get ready to get in the running for one of these fabulous prizes (all it takes is a pledge!):

Various: Science Fiction Park Bundesrepublik (German Home Recording Tape Music of the 1980s) CD
Kennélmus: Folkstone Prism LP
Chene Noir: Aurora LP
Nancy Priddy: You've Come This Way Before LP
Lothar & the Hand People: Machines: Amherst 1969 LP
Philippe Doray: Nouveaux Modes Industriels LP

This year's premium, which I put together especially for the marathon, is called "Compact Disc-overies." It's a collection of some of my favorite tracks from obscure but great CD's and CD-R-only releases from the '90s and 2000s. It's yours automatically for a pledge of $75! Plus, for that pledge amount, you also get a T-shirt you can wear while listening to the premium!
Avatar 11:48am Tony Coulter:

Oh, and my fabulous virtual co-host is none other than the stream's own David Weinstein! He'll be handling incoming pledges and prize-wrangling, and hanging out here in comments land. (Thanks, David!)

Avatar 12:24pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks again, Mark (W)illiams!! Station bylaws state we shouldn't reveal pledgers' full last names, so the stalkers don't get 'em.

  12:47pm chresti in tennis booth:

Hi Tony and forks! Otis was/is playing your show on his show!
Avatar 12:47pm TDK60:

I still use CDs a lot. I buy just a few each year, but I only buy a few albums each year anyway. Still play LPs and cassettes too. And those MP3 things too.
Avatar 12:48pm david w:

chresti!
Avatar 12:48pm Tony Coulter:

Hi, Chresti!!

Umm, what? Otis is playing my show on his show? Please to explain.
Avatar 12:50pm david w:

Sem! Thank you! And such a nice note!
Avatar 12:50pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks SO much for your pledge, Sem!!
Avatar 12:52pm david w:

I'm digging these premium tracks.
  12:54pm chresti in tennis booth:

It was in the background while he was grinding a coffee bean and using a paper shredder. Otis loves your show!

Avatar 12:56pm Tony Coulter:

Avatar 12:58pm Tony Coulter:

David will be picking a winner of the Kennélmus LP in around 5 minutes! Get your pledges in!
Avatar 12:58pm TDK60:

Tony, I went over there to Otis Fodder's show see what's going on. He was playing several WFMU streams at the same time. I think there's no prohibition to this in the WFMU bylaws.
Avatar 1:00pm david w:

Kevin C from Oakland just pledged. Thank you!
Avatar 1:01pm Tony Coulter:

HOORAY!! Thanks so much, Kevin C!!!
Avatar 1:01pm david w:

Where's my hat? Time to pick!
Avatar 1:03pm Tony Coulter:

The suspense is killing me! Who will be America's next Kennélmus-owner?
Avatar 1:05pm david w:

I have it! Sem from Nova Scotia gets Kennélmus: Folkstone Prism (LP). Well deserved Drummer hero reward.
Avatar 1:08pm Sem:

Honestly, it was an honour just be be nominated.

Heating Ventillation Air Conditioning
  1:09pm wenzo llc.:

hvac? heating & AC?
Avatar 1:11pm Tony Coulter:

Aha! Thanks, Wenzo and Dean! (And greetings to you both!)
Avatar 1:12pm david w:

Tony's French is better than his environmental control studies.
Avatar 1:12pm Tony Coulter:

Ha!
  1:14pm Dean:

Greetings. In our pandemic times HVAC has become a matter of increased salience.

Occupied with a bunch of stuff this a.m. I will most definitely be ponying up, but perhaps not today. Also, I continue my S4L contribution.
Avatar 1:14pm Tony Coulter:

I've always wanted a pony! Thanks either way, Dean!
  1:15pm Dean:

That brings to mind a question. Does WFMU seek donations of free puppies?
Avatar 1:17pm david w:

Also, we should discuss S4L, FMU's preferred method of contributing!
Avatar 1:18pm Tony Coulter:

Discuss away, David. I'm vaguer on that subject than I should be. Kinda like HVAC.
  1:18pm Mark Williams:

this sounds like prime NWW List material. Was it?
Avatar 1:19pm Tony Coulter:

In fact ... yes!
Avatar 1:21pm david w:

Basically, S4L is Swag For Life, where your account is charged monthly, starting at $10/mo. Good swag too!
  1:22pm Mark Williams:

I know I've commented about your show before on the occasions of Fundraisers, but why WFMU for me continues to have no equal is that, at its best, it espouses a communal and fad-free idea about what freedom really is, with no hint of a commodifying principle or exploitative energy anywhere to be found. This is the show you provide Tony, and I want to thank you for it again.
Avatar 1:24pm Tony Coulter:

HEY! No pledges have come in so far during this set ... and yet, we are supposed to do a drawing for the great Chêne Noir LP in little more than five minutes. Get your pledge in now and your chance of winning will be extremely good!
  1:25pm Mark Williams:

i love this Random House track.
  1:25pm Dean:

Re: S4L, your account is just your credit card, and if unlike me you create a WFMU login you'll see an icon of some sort on your profile and in your comments. The value of S4L to the station is that it makes for a predictable revenue stream.
Avatar 1:26pm Tony Coulter:

I saw them do it live many years ago!
Avatar 1:29pm Tony Coulter:

Random House, I mean -- not S4L.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Stanley:

I try to get to see S4L once a year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Stanley:

And hi David and Dony
Avatar 1:33pm david w:

I always think of Stanley when I pull out my hat.
Avatar 1:34pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Stanley! Don't you mean Tavid and Tony?
  1:34pm wenzo llc.:

cannabis is good medicine. music is better medicine. smoke less weed, and go pledge!! lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Stanley:

Avatar 1:35pm Tony Coulter:

See you, Stanley! You must answer the call of the wild dinner.
Avatar 1:38pm david w:

Avatar 1:38pm Tony Coulter:

Avatar 1:39pm david w:

James F of NJ hello and thank you for your pledge!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm listener james from westwood:

Is this the only show on the station where you're gonna hear a band named Ultimate Spinach? Quite excellently, yes!
Avatar 1:43pm david w:

Kind of a 1968 thing going on here. (I saw Sweetwater in Miami years ago.)
Avatar 1:44pm Sem:

Wow, thot I was suffering acid reflex, but I guess not. 1968. My, what a treasure this one is!
Avatar 1:44pm Tony Coulter:

I'll be breaking the '68 streak soon, but not by much.
Avatar 1:44pm Sem:

*reflux*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Doug Schulkind:

Big big love to Tony Coulter who has spent nearly a quarter century at WFMU (and also happens to be the second longest running DJ on the Drummer Stream)! Radio simply does not get any better than this.

Avatar 2:01pm Tony Coulter:

Avatar 2:02pm Tony Coulter:

Meanwhile, it's really quiet on the pledge front. Pledge! Pledge! Pledge for the station! Pledge for the stream! Pledge for Gideon the rabbit!
Avatar 2:04pm david w:

Yes. One hour left on this show. Odds are good, prizes are treasure!
Avatar 2:04pm Tony Coulter:

Pledge for Lothar & the Hand People! Don't think anyone's in the running for that great prize yet. We'll be drawing for it in less than 10 minutes.
Avatar 2:08pm david w:

Two more incredibly generous pledgers to thank: Alex B Brooklyn NY and Guido E all the way from Köln.
Avatar 2:10pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks so much, Alex and Guido!!! YAY!
Avatar 2:11pm Tony Coulter:

BUT ... they pledged pre-show. No one's pledging now. So your chances of winning the Lothar LP are still extremely high. C'mon, folks -- we need your help to keep on chooglin'.
Avatar 2:13pm david w:

True. We award prizes exclusively to those who pledge during the show.
Avatar 2:14pm david w:

And my pencils are still sharp!
Avatar 2:16pm david w:

perfectly aligned with currrent my mental state or lack thereof, this track is
Avatar 2:46pm Tony Coulter:

David W: A thought: Maybe we can sweeten the prize pot by bundling the Philippe Doray LP together with the Chêne Noir LP as a grand prize? That way anyone pledging in the next ten or so minutes will have a (very good) chance of winning two great LPs!
